Join a guild?
Roland arched a brow at the day's refreshed quest.
The quest didn't specify which guild to join, but since he was already in this world—
He glanced, almost without thinking, at the girl beside him who was hiding her face behind a book, mortified.
Fairy Tail really was the best fit.
…
"—Wait! You said you plan to join a guild!?"
Hearing Roland's plan for the day, Levy's eyes flew wide, a tremor of secret joy and nerves rising inside.
Is he… doing it for me…?
Levy knew she might be getting ahead of herself, but she couldn't suppress that giddy thought.
"Yeah. I've been traveling long enough, and the scenery in this town is great, so I want to stay here for a while."
At the open window, Roland basked in the morning sun—and in the magic inside him, now surging fuller than ever. A smile tugged at his lips.
He could clearly feel his current strength far outstripped yesterday afternoon's.
And this power of the sun was still climbing swiftly with time, as if it had no ceiling.
F-for a while…?
Catching that phrasing, Levy's smile froze for a second. She took a breath, mustered her courage, and asked, "How long is 'a while,' exactly?"
"There are quite a few guilds around this town."
"If you have a timeframe, I can help you find the best fit!"
Amused by her quick excuse, Roland rubbed his chin and pretended to ponder. "Five or six years, maybe. Of course… if I found the right partner, I might not leave."
Partner?!
Levy, a little disappointed by the first half, lit up at the last line.
"I see. In that case—" She fought to hold in her excitement, lifted a fair finger with a prim little smile, and declared, "then it has to be Fairy Tail!"
"As Magnolia's only top-class mage guild, it's not just the high-paying requests—the lively atmosphere beats any small guild!"
She tilted her shoulder to show the emblem on the back of her left shoulder, lips curling in a hum. "And I'm in that guild. If Roland joins, I can help!"
"Fairy Tail, huh…"
Exactly what I was waiting to hear.
Under her expectant gaze, Roland nodded with a smile.
"Then I'll be in your care, Levy-san."
Since they were in the girls' dorm, the two didn't linger in this "library."
"The guild opens at seven. We've got an hour, so I'll take you around the town center and we'll grab breakfast!"
Hands tucked behind her back, the off-shoulder dress swaying, Levy beamed.
Roland had no objections.
From the moment he'd transmigrated, he hadn't even had a sip of water.
"I'll pay you back once I've got money."
The boy's warm, smiling voice at her side made Levy's petite frame shiver.
She halted for a beat and flapped her hands. "I-it's fine! It's just a little money…"
Roland chuckled at her fluster.
She's adorable, Levy-san.
…
Walking the white marble-paved streets, Roland let his curious gaze wander.
Very soon, he noticed something off.
Women and girls who met his eyes paused with faint blushes, sneaking peeks at him.
One girl even hesitated and then trailed after them.
This tear-mole… really is too strong.
Roland ducked his head at the thought.
At the restaurant—
Since Roland hadn't eaten since yesterday afternoon and evening, Levy ordered extra: piles of croissants and steak, plus two strawberry cakes for dessert.
After breakfast, it was finally the moment Roland most looked forward to.
Through the bustling streets, he soon spotted a large, three-story guild hall of wood and stone rising at the town center.
Above the main doors, a bright flag with the guild emblem rippled in the wind, and a huge silver sign gleamed—Fairy Tail!
"Come on, I'll take you to Mira-nee!"
Levy laughed, grabbed his hand, and all but dragged him inside.
The wide hall held rows of wooden tables and chairs. A request board plastered with job flyers stood to one side, and not far off was a bar counter.
All told, it felt more like a pub than a guild.
Since the doors had just opened, the hall was nearly empty—only a white-haired girl in a dress stood behind the counter.
Noticing them, her refined face softened into a gentle smile. "Good morning, Levy."
"Morning, Mira-nee!" Levy grinned and nudged Roland forward. "This is Roland, a traveler from another continent. He wants to join our guild!"
"Hello, Mirajane-san."
Roland smiled and nodded.
Seeing the boy, Mirajane blinked—then her eyes flew wide.
Her breathing and heartbeat spiked out of her control.
This strange feeling—some kind of magic?
She covered her mouth with the signboard and peeked at Roland.
…No magic overflow. As a former S-Class mage, she could tell when someone was casting.
If it wasn't magic, then what was making her feel this way?
Despite her puzzlement, Mira fought down the hot flutter in her chest and let a sun-bright smile return to her face.
"Roland-san, are you planning to join our guild?"
"I am."
Eyeing the counter girl's flushed cheeks, Roland figured he should buy glasses later.
Otherwise by afternoon, half the women in the guild might be charmed.
—No need to invite trouble.
"May I ask, are you a mage?" Mira blinked, voice soft.
At that, Levy looked over, curious. "As a traveler, Roland must know a lot of magic, right?"
"I am a mage, but I don't know many spells." Roland nodded.
For now, he had just one—the power called Taiyō Mahō (Sun Magic).
But it was more than enough.
"Then have you decided the color and placement for the guild stamp?"
After a quick info registration, Mirajane pulled out a stamper from behind the counter and tilted her head with a sweet smile.
…A little too cute.
Roland cleared his throat and did his best not to look straight at her.
"Left arm, please. Color… let's go with gold."
With a gentle press to his left arm, a brilliant gold emblem bloomed on his skin.
So joining a guild is this simple—or is it because Levy introduced me?
The thought crossed Roland's mind.
At the same time, the system's voice chimed again.
