Chapter 106 - Xiao Wu’s Moment of Peril

Luo Yu leapt down from the treetops, lost in thought.

Hu Liena and Xie Yue, having rested, now looked much better. Both of them turned toward the direction from which the screams had come, hearing the young girl's cries from nearby.

The siblings exchanged a glance, their intent almost palpable.

"You two aren't thinking of going to save her, are you?" Luo Yu asked curiously.

Hu Liena replied, "Tonight's chaos in the Star Dou Forest was caused by us. If anyone gets into trouble because of it, we really couldn't live with ourselves."

"Over there is probably dangerous," Luo Yu added.

Xie Yue frowned and smiled bitterly. "If we hadn't heard her cries, it would have been one thing. But if we actually ignore someone in mortal danger… I don't think I'd be able to sleep tonight."

Luo Yu's eyes flickered. He realized the education style of the Martial Soul Hall wasn't bad at all—he admired the siblings' conduct from the dining hall until now, and hadn't noticed any flaws.

As for someone like Yan, that kind of trash existed in every organization.

"Ah!!"

From a distance came the screech of a flying bird, and the girl's shriek echoed again.

Hu Liena's face darkened immediately. Memories of being surrounded by soul beasts filled her with dread. "Let's go see. If we're late, it might be too late."

Xie Yue nodded.

Luo Yu, however, hesitated. That voice did sound familiar—like Xiao Wu's. But he had only heard her once before, so he wasn't certain.

If it really was Xiao Wu… could this be a trap set by her and the Titan Ape?

Even though the battle fluctuations deep in the forest indicated that the Titan Ape had been restrained by Ju Douluo, one could never be too careful.

Hu Liena seemed to notice Luo Yu's hesitation and stepped forward. "What's wrong?"

Luo Yu shook his head. "If you feel recovered enough, you can go on your own."

Hu Liena paused for a moment, immediately understanding that Luo Yu had his reservations and didn't want to intervene—but she saw nothing wrong with that.

Tonight, the forest was in chaos, danger at every turn. Luo Yu had already rescued them twice—Hu Liena found that nothing short of miraculous.

If it weren't for the fact that this situation was a consequence of their own actions and her prior experience of being trapped and desperate, Hu Liena might have made the same choice as Luo Yu.

Understanding this, she didn't push him further. Her eyes shone as she looked at Luo Yu. "Thank you for saving us tonight. Even though you didn't tell me your name, I believe we will meet again."

Xie Yue, too, looked at Luo Yu with gratitude, solemnly bowing before rushing off with his sister toward the source of the cries.

Watching the siblings hurry off to save the girl, Luo Yu was slightly surprised.

He had expected that staying put might earn him moral criticism, or a plea to intervene—but the siblings clearly understood the situation and didn't impose their will on others. They chose to take the risk themselves.

"Sigh… you've bested me," Luo Yu muttered, shaking his head. He spun his legs and shot off in their direction.

In another part of the Star Dou Forest:

"Whoosh!!"

A graceful and ethereal young girl leapt in panic through the forest. Her tightly bound scorpion-tail ponytail had come undone, limbs clad in pink stockings snagged by branches—but there was no time to care.

"Roar!"

A ferocious beast, six meters long with three heads, chased her relentlessly. Its black blood-like fur was as sharp as needles, exuding a corrosive black mist that caused the surrounding leaves to wither on contact.

The girl's aura flickered weakly, her dim soul light pulsing faintly. Her two soul rings had already lost their glow. Judging by her exhausted state, all her skills had already been used in defense against the beast. She was at the end of her rope.

"Crack!"

The three-headed beast glared with blood-red eyes, its fangs curving in a horrifyingly human-like cruelty. The black mist spread, engulfing the fleeing girl.

Her speed faltered, despair flashing in her eyes. She had never expected such an accident in her own territory, suddenly facing a twenty-thousand-year-old three-headed Hades Mastiff—its reasoning completely corrupted, utterly irrational.

Black demonic energy spread through the air. The Hades Mastiff struck her lower back with a massive paw.

Soul energy flared up around the girl, but it was shattered entirely.

She was hurled forward, smashing through tree roots and trunks, landing on the ground with blood at the corner of her mouth.

Seeing the beast approach, her delicate features paled.

At this life-or-death moment, a pink-red light shot through the dense leaves, striking the mastiff's head, followed by two cold flashes slicing through the branches and leaves in its path.

"Roar!"

The Hades Mastiff, with three heads and sharp senses, immediately detected the side attack. Its mouths glowed black as it unleashed a counterattack.

The three black lights collided with the crescent blades, shattering the pink light—but fortunately, it did not continue its assault on the fallen girl.

"Don't be afraid!"

The girl, now saved, turned her head.

Two strangers appeared—a tall girl radiating noble soul energy, and a towering man wielding the flying crescent blades that had blocked the beast's attack.

The girl's eyes brightened with joy, then fell dim as she saw the soul rings of the newcomers. "Go! This three-headed Hades Mastiff cannot be defeated without a Soul Emperor. Don't risk yourselves for me!"

Xie Yue and Hu Liena were knowledgeable enough to understand the mastiff's power. But seeing the girl in mortal danger, they couldn't ignore it and immediately acted.

Xie Yue recalled his crescent blades and used his soul skill to entangle the beast, while Hu Liena rushed to the girl's side, helping her up.

"You can't defeat it! Run!" the girl said, pressing her lips together.

"Don't talk nonsense. We know what this is," Hu Liena replied coldly.

"But then…" the girl froze.

Hu Liena's phoenix-like eyes glinted. Seeing her brother being forced back, urgency flared in her gaze. "Don't waste time. Lift her with whatever strength you have. Move!"

The girl's eyes trembled, understanding their intent. Ignoring the pain in her body, she gritted her teeth and got up, ready to escape with the mysterious woman.

"Brother, retreat!"

Xie Yue's face was grim. The metallic clangs nearly deafened him. The beast was not only tough, but its claws and strength were unimaginable.

"Third soul skill: Mad Blade Frenzy."

Two crescent blades shot forward in rapid spirals. At the same time, dozens of blades seemed to appear in the sky, swirling everywhere. The mastiff, eyes red with disdain, charged through the storm of blades.

Xie Yue dared not linger, finishing his attack and rapidly retreating to regroup with his sister.

"Run!"

The three escaped together.

A loud "boom" sounded behind them. The Hades Mastiff, unharmed but furious, released a stench of blood and charged with terrifying ferocity.

The rescued girl looked back in terror. "This beast's main target is me. Thank you for your help, but leave me and run!"

Xie Yue could feel the chilling, blood-soaked aura from behind. His face darkened.

Hu Liena's eyes were complex, her thoughts drifting to the calm face of a certain man.

"His intuition was right. Being a good person isn't that easy."
