Chapter 26 - Chapter 26 Candlelight Dinner

What the hell is the point of joining the army? Being a soldier is extremely risky, not to mention the high probability of dying on the battlefield, and he might not even get to see his family once in a year or two.

The risk of being an attendant plummeted significantly, as he only needed to serve Sir Karl, his liege.

He only needed to consider Sir Karl's feelings and avoid offending him.

"Sir Karl, I praise you and thank you for your benevolence and generosity." Philip expressed his gratitude with an extremely serious expression.

"Alright, you can talk to Dalton tonight. I have some personal matters to attend to. You don't need to wait for me to return."

"Understood, Sir Karl."

"I understand too, my lord."

...Soon, night fell. Triss, meticulously dressed, repeatedly observed the distance through the balcony window, anticipating Sir Karl's arrival.

At this moment, her hair was tied up, secured with a hairpin adorned with azure gold threads, and she wore a magnificent dark green gown.

Around her swan-like neck, she wore a leaf-shaped ornament crafted from gold.

The open neckline of the gown was bordered by golden leaves and gold trim, while the rest of it was covered in golden branch embellishments.

Her lower half was a pristine white short skirt, and her entire being exuded an indescribable elegance and luxury.

It was evident that she truly cared about Sir Karl's impression of her. To astound Sir Karl, she had gone to great lengths, even pulling out her most cherished gown.

On a solid wood round table not far behind her, two silver candlesticks were placed, their candlelight flickering quietly in the dimly lit living room.

The table was set with the lavish dinner she and Sir Karl were about to enjoy that evening.

Sir Karl walked along the road, holding a bouquet of exquisite roses purchased from a flower shop and a bottle of expensive wine from Toussaint.

Although he was heading towards the residence Triss had told him about, his gaze was somewhat unfocused, clearly indicating that his attention wasn't fully on walking.

In fact, he had never expected his relationship with Triss to progress so quickly.

He had only met her once yesterday, and today Triss had invited him to dinner.

He seemed to have underestimated his own physical attractiveness and the audacity of sorceresses in expressing their affection.

Of course, to a certain extent, his willingness to accept Triss's invitation was mainly because he knew Triss well.

If it were another sorceress he didn't know well, he would have to carefully consider whether she had a conspiracy or was trying to use him.

In this era, the Brotherhood of Sorcerers had not yet fallen apart, and the Lodge of Sorceresses had not yet been established.

Compared to the Lodge of Sorceresses many years later, and the conduct and character of other sorceresses,

Triss and Yennefer could even be considered naive.

Among them, the character of Margarita, the Rectoress of Aretuza, was also quite good... Unconsciously, he arrived at Triss's residence, lost in thought.

"Creak." The wooden door creaked softly as Triss pulled it open.

At this moment, Sir Karl was about to raise his hand, not even having had time to knock.

When he clearly saw Triss's light makeup and the incredibly familiar gown she was wearing,

He was momentarily stunned, his eyes widening, clearly captivated by her.

Triss's beautiful eyes held a smile, and a slightly smug expression appeared on her face.

Evidently, she was very pleased with Sir Karl's surprised reaction.

After a brief moment of daze, Sir Karl apologized with a smile: "Madam Triss, please forgive my impropriety."

"You are very beautiful tonight. You are the second most beautiful woman I have ever seen."

Triss was very pleased to hear Sir Karl's unreserved praise, and a faint smile touched her lips.

However, when she heard the latter half of the sentence, "one of the most beautiful women," the smile on her lips instantly dropped.

Then, she narrowed her eyes and asked in a relatively calm tone, indicating that she didn't care: "Oh? The second one. It seems Sir Karl has seen many beautiful women."

"Hmm, may I be so bold as to ask, who is she, the first one?"

Although Triss acted very calmly, as if she didn't care,

Sir Karl could clearly sense from her words that she was jealous, and she cared very much about who the first one was.

Sir Karl felt a bit helpless, thinking to himself: "Sure enough, when it comes to beauty, even if women say they don't care, they actually care a lot, especially when facing someone of the opposite sex they have feelings for."

If he couldn't answer, given Triss's current state, she would probably slam the door shut and give him the cold shoulder.

Fortunately, he had never been involved with any other women, and his previous words were sincere.

Although many thoughts flashed through his mind, he did not hesitate in his conversation and immediately replied to Triss.

At the same time, as Sir Karl was about to speak, preparing to give Triss an answer,

Triss's other hand was placed behind her at some point, and azure magic flickered in her palm, seemingly casting some spell.

But a faint smile still hung on her face, showing no change.

"Her name is Elisa, my birth mother. She will always be the most beautiful in my heart." Sir Karl's gaze was firm, meeting her green eyes without flinching.

Triss was startled. Feeling the feedback from the spell, she knew Sir Karl was not lying.

His words were indeed sincere and from the heart. She couldn't help but be moved, and a look of surprise appeared in her eyes.

She really hadn't expected Sir Karl to care so much about his mother; it seemed he deeply respected his parents.

But precisely because of this, she became even more satisfied with him.

After all, who would like a cold-hearted person who doesn't even care about his parents?

She discreetly dispelled the spell from her hand behind her back, then raised her hand to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear, using it to conceal her apology and guilt for secretly testing Sir Karl's sincerity.

"Hmph, come in quickly, if we wait any longer, dinner will get cold."

Triss smiled and gently linked her arm with Sir Karl's, pulling him into the house, and then closed the door with her heel.

"Here, I didn't know what kind of flowers you liked, so I only chose roses."

With Triss enthusiastically holding his arm, Sir Karl's movements paused for a moment before quickly returning to normal.

"Thank you, Sir Karl, I like them very much."

Triss smiled, took the bouquet of roses, and gently sniffed them at her nose.

She also noticed Sir Karl's pause, but he did not let go of her arm.

The two sat at the dining table, enjoying the delicious food with silver knives and forks.

The bottle of wine from Toussaint was also uncorked by Sir Karl and poured into silver cups adorned with gold.

After a few drinks, Sir Karl's expression remained unchanged, while Triss's face flushed with an inviting blush, and the two of them began to converse freely.

Her eyes were hazy as she smiled and gazed at Sir Karl, resting her chin on her palm on the table, her body leaning slightly forward.

She listened quietly as Sir Karl slowly recounted his true origins and his life before being knighted.
