Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: Start of the journey

Boom!

Norrak's palm touched the floor, and he used Absolute Zero to create a circular wall around the tribe with a door that could only be opened from the inside.

The massive circular dome featured a hole at the top, allowing sunlight to illuminate the tribe. This wall was strong enough to maintain its shape for at least a decade.

Deciding that they had spent enough time saying goodbye, Norrak walked towards Jatara, about to leave for their journey.

The atmosphere was sombre and sad as Kanna and the others watched Katara and Norrak move towards the ocean. They clenched their hands, praying for the two to be okay.

"I pray to the moon and ocean spirits to protect you two," Kanna prayed, closing her eyes in hope that throughout the future, Katara and Norrak will be okay.

Katara's lips trembled as she looked back, about to leave her childhood home. It was the place where she grew up alongside Norrak and became a woman.

"Sokka, I swear if you don't get your ass here right now. I swear you will live into old age and die a virgin!" Norrak shouted in annoyance, looking at Sokka. Katara was brought out of her daze, her eyebrows narrowing in annoyance.

"Wait for me!" Sokka shouted, sweat sliding down his temple as he stumbled towards Norrak and Katara. The thought of staying in this tribe with old hags was haunting.

Katara and Norrak turned around with smiles on their faces as they stopped near the water. Norrak crouched down and placed his palms on the ground.

His Chi surged out, and a massive boat of ice suddenly appeared on the water. The ice boat was thin, and it looked as if it would break, but that was just an illusion.

The ice was created by Norrak and his Six Eyes; its bonding structures resemble those of a diamond, making it possibly a stronger defence than diamond itself.

"Get in, don't worry. It won't break, I made it extra sturdy," Norrak instructed the tow as he jumped inside the Boat. Katara followed him without hesitation, while Sokka looked at the thin walls of the Boat.

"Uhm, is it just me? Or is this Boat as thin as my hair?" Sokka asked while pointing at the walls, and Norrak nodded as he punched it. The punch created a small shockwave, but the ice did not even crack.

"Get in," Norrak said, and Sokka immediately jumped in. The Boat then suddenly started to slide over the water as if it were an auto Boat. But it was Norrak controlling the ice to move spiritually.

Waterbending is tied to spirituality than motions and actions. So Norrak can control the ice boat telepathically, and it works since his Chi control is perfect.

'Now, let's see. If Aang is dead from Katara becoming the new avatar, then Appa might still be frozen in the ice with Aang. I could take him and make him our flying Bison,' Norrak looked around, until his vision zoomed out into the water.

The ice Boat changed direction, and once it was near, the Boat stopped moving forward. Katara and Sokka looked at Norrak in confusion, who raised his hand.

Swoosh!

Splash!

The water parted, revealing a massive ice ball that floated dimly and shallowly. Beneath it was a bison, frozen solid in the ice. Norrak pulled it up, and the ice ball floated on the surface.

"W-What is that thing? And is that a body?!" Sokka screamed as she pointed at Appa and Aang. Katara was silent, feeling that she was responsible for the death.

'Don't feel like that, it was not you who killed him, if it was anyone, then it would be me,' Raava spoke in her mind, and Katara sighed as she nodded in understanding.

Boom!

A Piercing Blood pierced through the ice ball, and a hair-length crack appeared that continued to grow in size. Appa, under Aang, opened his eyes, and he let out a loud cry, floating towards Aang.

Aang's body fell from the middle of the ice ball, and Appa caught him on his soft fur. His eyes turned wet, and Appa felt the heartbeat of his friend become nonexistent.

Swoosh!

Norrak jumped off the Boat and landed on the small ice platform as he kneeled next to Aang's body. An Ice coffin, tougher than diamond, appeared, and Aang's body was laid inside it.

"Hey, I don't know what you are going through, but I can tell that your friend was important. He was the avatar, and he died from running from his responsibilities," Norrak said in a soft tone, and Appa blinked his ears away.

"The world is at war right now, and many people suffer and die every single day without the avatar. You see that girl right there? She is the new avatar, and she needs to bring peace to the world," Norrak said, pointing towards Katara.

Norrak turned back towards Appa, and he sighed as he gently smoothed his fur. He needed Appa to help them fly to Kyoshi Island, where he could leave Sokka.

Norrak could lift, and he could surround Katara with his Chi, helping her fly alongside him. With his Six Eyes, he would also fly for as long as he wants without tiring.

But he wouldn't complain if Appa came with them. Sleeping on his soft fur is better than not sleeping at all during their travels. He imagines Katara would also like that.

"If you want to help us, then you can start by helping us travel on our journey to bring peace. If you don't want to, that's also okay, since I understand," Norrak said, and Appa let out a loud whine.

He flapped his tail, creating a strong breeze as he started to float up into the air. He looked down and nudged Norrak's face gently with emotion. Norrak could not help but smile.

'I can see why the airbenders lost the ability to fly when they met the flying Bisons,' Norrak thought as he chuckled. He touched Aang's body, and the coffin froze with a see-through lid.

"Well, let's go. Judging by the arrow drawn on the head, he was likely an airbender. Since we are going towards the Kyoshi Island, we could bury his body on the Southern Air Temple," Norrak said as he jumped onto Appa's back with Aang in the coffin.

"Jump on you two, we have a new partner. His name is Appa!" Norrak said as Katara and Sokka jumped onto Appa's back. Katara looked at him in awe, feeling his soft fur on his back.

"Ugh, how did you know his name?" Sokka asked with a raised eyebrow, and Norra's left eye twitched. Why did he question him? If Katara didn't question him.

"I can speak with him through the use of Chi... You know, something you can't do," Norrak said, and Sokka huffed as he turned around, his arms crossed.

"Alright, Appa! Make your way to the Southern Air Temple!" Norrak said, and Appa let out a whine as he flew towards the sky. Norrak lay back, his hands under his head as he closed his eyes.

"We should reach the temple in a day... What a pain," Norrak muttered.

Appa joins us on the journey! By the way, I'm going to leave Suki for Sokka, the sole reason is that I myself am not that interested in her. So yeah, Sokka can have her.
