"Okay, Katara. Listen up! You can already condense water from the air, create ice and heal with waterbending! So, you can be considered a master at it," Norrak explained as he sat upon Appa's soft back.
Currently, he was trying to teach Katara that she had mastered waterbending after 10 months of training. Right now, what she should be focusing on is the next bendings.
"Yeah, but how do I begin with training airbending? There is no airbender alive after the death of Aang," Katara said with worry in her tone and a bit of unease.
If she can't master the four elements before fighting the Fire Lord, then she might lose, though she isn't worried. But more because she knew that Norrak would never let that happen.
"Well, good that you asked. But did you forget something? We have the greatest airbending master in the entire world right under us!" Norrak said with a grin, rubbing Appa's back.
Appa's ability to fly is a feat that only a select few, such as the ancient airbenders and Zaheer, have accomplished over the past hundreds or thousands of years.
"Uh? Excuse me, but how do you expect an animal to teach Katara how to use airbending?" Sokka looked at Norrak with confusion before pointing at Appa's face.
"Whooooo!" Appa suddenly let out a whine, smoke drifting out from his nose as he glared at Sokka. Norrak chuckled at Appa's words, understanding him from how his Chi moved.
"Hey, he said that you are the only hairless animal here~," Norrak said with a teasing smirk, and Sokka turned red as he looked at Appa. Katara laughed, covering her mouth.
"Tha-that's not true!" Sokka said as he turned to look away from them. Crossing his arms with a huff, he closed his eyes. Norrak and Katara shrugged before returning to training.
"Okay, Katara. You know how my eyes are special? Well, I can see how Appa controls the air, and I can give you pointers on it. Especially since I can see how Appa uses his Chi," Norrak explained.
"Wait, so if I can use my Chi along with airbending, could I fly like Appa?" Katara asked with wide, shining eyes due to excitement. Norrak shrugged since he did not know.
Appa's ability to fly may seem confusing due to his biology; his body is not hollow like that of birds and is actually quite heavy. That should have made it even harder to fly.
"I don't know, but it wouldn't hurt trying. Besides, even if you can't fly, you will learn airbending." Norrak said with a shrug, and Katara nodded as she sat in a meditating pose to focus her attention.
"Okay, close your eyes. I will use my Chi to manipulate yours in the way that Appa manipulates his own. Remember the rhythm and shape," Norrak walked behind Katara, and he sat down, his legs on her side.
Norrak enveloped Katara's waist in his hands, and he pressed his chest against her back to gain more skin contact. He sighed as his Chi burst out of his body, enveloping Katara's body.
"Urgh!" Norrak grinned as Katara released a gasp that she quickly hid. His Chi was injected into her, sliding into her Chi veins without any injury happening to her own Chi channels.
"Feel the way I move your Chi. If you manage to do this, then airbending will come easier to you," Norrak mentioned as he started moving Katara's Chi by attaching his own to hers.
Of course, even with almost perfect Chi control, he wouldn't be able to do this if not for Katara allowing and even urging him to do this. Because at the end of the day, he was not a Chi god.
Katara ignored the hot feeling in her tummy and focused on the way and the rhythm in which Norrak used his Chi to move hers. She sighed in comfort, feeling his warm Chi.
Norrak reached out and raised her arms, slowly spinning them in clockwise and anti-clockwise directions. Katara shuddered as she felt the breeze surround her.
Swoosh!
The air was starting to spin, and Norrak grinned as he saw Katara's Chi interacting with the element. He wasn't actually doing anything, but moving her Chi.
Sokka watched with wide eyes as an invisible tornado started to become more translucent and almost visible. Katara's hair began to move, and Norrak got whipped in the face.
It was worth it as Norrak continued doing this for a whole hour until Katara's Chi became depleted halfway. An invisible wind current enveloped both.
Katara opened her eyes, and she looked down at her. Norrak was sitting on Appa's body, but she was actually levitating on top of his lap. She was held by him, stopping her from flying off.
"I-I am flying!!!" Katara screamed, her voice echoing in the wind as her hair rustled in the air. She was levitating, and even though it was unstable, she was able to do it.
"Hmm, I see. So, the reason Appa can fly is due to the way he tuned his Chi into the way the air currents flow around him. The moment the air current changes, his Chi also changes to follow it," Norrak analysed.
"Hmmm... But it also needs airbending to manipulate the air currents. I can't recreate it with Chi alone," Norrak muttered with a hint of disappointment.
To a bender, doing this was almost impossible as they needed to sense the wind direction, speed and then manipulate their Chi, change the rhythm, and even be able to control their flight all at the same time.
But for a flying Bison, this became instinct and like breathing due to the many years of evolution. Plus, the Bisons are natural-born airbenders; this is nothing to them.
"Okay, I'm going to let go, alright?" Norrak said, and Katara nodded as she refocused. Norrak pulled his Chi back, and Katara stayed in the air for a fraction of a second before turning unstable and falling back into Norrak's lap.
"Awwww, I really wanted to do it~," Katara whined as she looked back at Norrak, her face carrying a pout of sadness. Norrak chuckled, enveloping her in his arms.
"Don't worry, you could stay in the air for a fraction of a second. If you use your Chi more, it will eventually turn into muscle memory," Norrak explained, and Katara nodded with acceptance.
"By the way, why are you rubbing your hip on my lap?" Norrak leaned down and whispered into Katara's ear. Katara looked away, her face a bit red, but firm.
"I don't know what you are talking about."

Yeah, I decided that Norrak will teach Katara airbending based on Appa. Because if she can learn from this, her airbending will improve rapidly due to her talent.
