Chapter 15 - Blizzard Caverns

Unexpectedly her Nen was responding to her inner turmoil and an ability was forming, not fully realized.

Roman was taking the day slower than usual, training less and watching Menchi.

He felt the pressure and changes within her.

Lingering in the back of the kitchen, he watched her conjure two knives and two mini caldrine-like pots.

One pair, red and the other blue.

Sticking the red blade in the red cauldron and her blue knife inside the blue cauldron.

Menchi retrieved ingredients impossibly large to fit inside her blue cauldron with her blue knife placing them on the counter. Each ingredient excluding a frosty chill. Evident that the cauldron was basically a portable freezer.

Meanwhile she placed a hand on the ingredients while waiting for her red blade within the red cauldron. Most certainly heated to great temperatures. While also enhancing the ingredients.

This was one of Menchi's Nen abilities she developed a while back.

After overcoming her issue of not being able to cut her ingredients up, she quickly ran into the issue of not being able to cook her ingredients.

They were too durable for the flames of the kitchen stove and oven.

So she had to make her own. Pulling her blade out of the red cauldron. It radiated with heat, increasing the surrounding temperature a handful of degrees and climbing.

Meanwhile Menchi took her time cutting the ingredients up with great strength and effort. Then she mixed the ingredients together to whatever she wanted.

In this case it was a stew, water and broth included.

Before again tossing an impossible amount of things into such a small red cauldron, sticking her knife in using it to arrange things within. As if the small knife was enough to touch everything within.

In truth each cauldron was massive. It was due to a condition she used, where the size was equal to the large creature she had personally witnessed.

So currently the cauldron was the size of an elephant she had seen in a zoo from the neighboring city.

There were conditions for everything, such as the degree of heat and cold of her cauldrons where to the degree she herself could withstand. In addition, the maximum degree of heat and cold was only concentrated in one part of the cauldron, everything else was consistently lower and lower temperature.

This made her ability easier to use as well as allowed her not to burn certain things, or freezer burn other things.

Not to mention her knives had properties that could store and amplify a hot or cold temperature respectively.

Conditions placed upon them so they had to be recharged with heat and cold each time they were summoned. The heat and cold stored in them needed to be released before they could be unsummoned. Lastly when they were summoned they could only have one purpose, to prepare ingredients or to hunt for ingredients.

Not to mention the ingredients needed to be used.

A few moments later the food was ready and Menchi dragged everything out with her knife

Placing all the food on the counter for a moment, Menchi transferred everything into the blue cauldron to cool down faster.

Before taking everything out again, ready to consume.

Only needing to place her knives back into their respective cauldrons releasing their stored energy, then unsummoning everything.

Glancing back at Roman, who came forward to help carry everything to their own private dining table.

Food like this was powerful, and nobody else other than her and Roman could hope to even take a single bite out of it.

It was things like this that made her feel different than her peers, and even if she didn't notice it now. It was disconnecting her from her peers.

After all she was probably over a hundred times stronger than them, practically super human. This small town couldn't hold her forever.

As they enjoyed their meal in silence, Roman only spoke after they both finished.

"Have you decided?" He asked, both of them knew tomorrow was the day they either left together or separate.

Sighing deeply, staring at her empty plate. She portrayed an image of a conflicted wife rather than a little kid.

"I guess I have to at least try." Menchi wasn't herself.

"That's good, a mature answer. We should leave by the afternoon, so make sure you've packed, and not too heavy. Remember we will come back." Roman said.

"What will we tell Lewy?" Menchi was still concerned.

But Roman just smiled. "Lewy knows we're not normal, especially since you have a hunter license. Everyone knows hunters are extraordinary. Even if they can't comprehend it. We will just tell him we are going to a hunter meeting."

There wasn't anything wrong with that. Everyone knew being a hunter was dangerous, by giving an excuse to meeting hunters rather than doing something dangerous. It relieved worry and protest, especially because of the hunter by laws.

Holy hunter commandments, most public. With the most important referring to, 'hunters aren't allowed to harm other hunters.

The next day, Roman and Menchi marched together to the cafe Roman met Note. Back packs filled with everything except food.

Lewy watched them go with a complicated gaze.

Reaching the cafe, Roman saw Note already waiting inside.

So Roman and Menchi joined her table.

"We're ready, where are we going?" Roman asked, but Note gave him a strange gaze.

"We? Who's this little sister? Why did you bring her?" Note was confused.

She didn't remember a second kid, or agree to this.

"This is Menchi, a gourmet hunter. Actually I'm not a hunter, I just used her license to select your job. But don't worry she's strong." Roman explained and assured Note.

Hearing this Note smiled sweetly, though inside she wasn't fully convinced.

"Oh is that so, then little sister Menchi, welcome aboard. Let's go then I have a flight booked for us in a few hours." Note decided to go along with everything.

Dragging them to a car, it wasn't a taxi but a rental.

Getting in, Note drove them to an airport. But the car ride wasn't silent.

"Menchi can you show me your Ren, so I can be assured of your strength." Note asked sweetly.

Menchi glanced at Roman who nodded in approval.

Menchi flared her Ren, creating a pressure in the car that made Note raise her brow in surprise.

Menchi wasn't just a beginner or intermediate, she was an expert. No less than Note herself. But this made sense because they had both probably been training in Nen for the same amount of time.

While Note looked like she was in her early twenty's, Roman knew the effects of Nen. So Note was probably in her late twenties or early thirties at the minimum.

Though this was just Nen strength, Note was certainly more experienced in Nen and battle. She was more mature and probably had strong abilities.

Nodding her head in approval.

"How did you two kids get so strong? Don't tell me you were born this way." Note was having a hard time believing her eyes.

"I was born this way!" Menchi confirmed.

Though that was an unusual phenomenon, raising a dangerous proposition.

"What! What kind of lunatic would awaken a baby?!" Note caught on and was instantly appalled.

Roman silently watched on as Menchi and Note got to know each other, until they reached the airport.

Note returned the rental car, a service lots of airports had implemented a decade or so ago.

Walking toward security, as hunters they had special privileges.

They could bring in weapons or even skip security directly. Note was used to doing so, but knew from the car ride they had never gone to the airport or gone through security before.

They had time so they wasted it, allowing the kids, but truly only Menchi, to experience going through security for the first time.

Note was feeling a little like a baby sitter. But they quickly got on the blimp. Planes existed but they weren't for commercial use in the hunter world.

With Menchi staring out the window in wonder, chafing occasionally.

Roman spoke. "So what's the mission? Still remembering their purpose and his goal to get Nen scripts from her."

Pausing Note spoke. "We are going north, and meeting a few friends that will join us, all hunters. Then taking another Blimp further north to a place called 'blizzard caverns'."

"The goal for me is to get crystal threads from the caverns deeper below. The others are going to help but are also hoping to collect some crystal-Ice to sell." Note finished, pulling out some papers from her own bag, with more details for Roman to go over.

Unlike Roman's last adventure where he had to figure everything out himself, Note had a lot of information.

They wouldn't be going in blind, and apparently one of the hunters joining them had been to the place before.

This time they would know exactly where to go, no need to waste time finding what he was looking for.

Landing a few hours later, Menchi only then pulled her gaze away from the window. Finding the experience very cool.

They got off the blimp with many other civilians.

But they didn't leave the airport, they had another flight to catch.

Finding their gate, Note approached three figures, all unique.

Roman studied them, as Note hugged a girl of similar size and age, with green hair.

The other two were both guys, one was a little taller than Roman with long hair and light facial hair. The other was only a little taller than the two girls, skinny and elegant. In contrast to the smaller man's more laid back demeanor.

"Guys these are the two I got the shells from, their joining us on to Blizzard Caverns." Note introduced everyone.
