Chapter 6 - Chapter 6, Time to Upgrade

After the battle was completely over, a new interface popped up before Gu Hang's eyes.

Looking at the four words "Decisive Victory," his expression was a little strange.

Does that mean there are also Epic Triumphs, Slight Edges, and Bloody Close Wins?

He could see not only the overall gains and losses but also the specific situation of each subsidiary unit.

More importantly, he gained 19 Grace Points after the victory.

The revenue from this one battle was nearly four times his fixed monthly income!

Good heavens, so this is a War-Monger System, isn't it? Fighting is where the biggest profits are, and farming is just there to support the war effort?

He clicked on the System Interface and saw the Hero item flashing slightly.

Clicking again, his own name was flashing.

[Hero: Gu Hang (Faction Leader), LV1, Sufficient Experience for Upgrade (10 Grace)]

[Physique: 7, Psionic Power: 14]

[Traits:

Psionic Caster: You command the power of Psionics and can expend Psionic Power to cast Psionic Spells.

Governor of Wrath Owl Star: You are the legal ruler of Wrath Owl Star and have a greater chance of legally unifying the local forces of Wrath Owl Star.]

This was his personal information.

Of the two Traits, Governor of Wrath Owl Star came from his identity, requiring no further explanation. The other, Psionic Caster, was his personal ability.

Gu Hang is a Psion, a legal one.

His Gu family would naturally cultivate its core descendants. Education, politics, business, and providing network resources go without saying, and those like Gu Hang, who displayed Psionic talent as a child, would certainly not be overlooked.

His talent in Psionics is decent, as reflected by the 14 attribute points visible in the System, and he has demonstrated it.

Gu Hang has also essentially figured out the meaning of the attributes.

Strength, dexterity, nerve reaction, damage resistance... all physical abilities are grouped under Physique. A strong Physique is essential for growing into an excellent Warrior.

In this era of transcendence, even with technological development, individual valor in war still holds significance. The most elite Warriors, using the best equipment, might not be able to slice a Starship with a sword (that's too exaggerated), but charging into formation, conquering trenches, and taking down fortresses... those are easy feats.

That Greenskin Beast earlier was proof. If Gu Hang hadn't been there, the creature still wouldn't have survived, but getting rid of it would have required sacrificing an unknown number of Servitors or even Marines.

Psionics, on the other hand, is more mysterious and is called witchcraft or magic in many ignorant worlds.

It is a supernatural power originating from the dark side of the world. Starshipwarp travel and many high-specification, powerful weapons and equipment all use this supernatural energy. The Empire has dedicated Energy Worlds to harvest Psionic Power and condense it into crystals.

At the same time, the more advanced the Psionic technology in cutting-edge equipment, the more it requires a skilled Psion to operate. A powerful Psion can exhibit strong combat capability using Psionic Spells without relying on any equipment.

Gu Hang's method of dealing with the Greenskin earlier was a Psionic Spell. One cast of "Soul Severance" temporarily cut off one of its legs, turning it into a sitting duck.

This is also the only Psionic SpellGu Hang knows; the subject is difficult to study. Spending decades immersed in exhaustive research of Psionic Spells is not what Gu Hang wants to do.

However, the upgrade option in the Hero Interface provided him with a new path.

Isn't it great to just be able to upgrade directly?

Before this, the upgrade option was not present. He noticed the four words "Sufficient Experience." He guessed this was earned by winning a war.

It seems the upgrade option only appears when there is enough experience.

As for the 10 Grace Points required for the upgrade, he gritted his teeth and paid immediately.

With the 19 Grace Points gained this time, plus the 2 remaining from before, he had a total of 21, which was plenty.

Immediately, a new prompt appeared before his eyes:

[Please select one of the following five directions—Physique, Psionic Power, Command, Leadership, Unique—to generate a new Talent.]

There's an option like this?

Physique and Psionic Power are self-explanatory and should relate to individual strength.

The next two, Command and Leadership, are similar in meaning but definitely different. Gu Hang guessed that the former should refer to military command, enhancing the ability to lead armies into war. The latter would be the Leadership ability as a ruler or governor.

As for the final "Unique"... could it grant an exclusive Talent unique to each person? What specifically it is, is impossible to guess.

Gu Hang tried to select "Unique" but received a new prompt:

[Upgrade failed. The Unique Sequence upgrade project has not yet been unlocked.]

"I wonder what the conditions are to unlock it..."

With no choice, he had to select from the first four.

He chose the Psionic Power Talent.

He didn't choose Physique because he clearly had more talent on the Psion path than the Warrior path. As for the bonuses from Command or Leadership, while excellent, they would likely be less effective in the early stages when army numbers are low and territory size is small. Conversely, individual strength would be more pronounced in small-scale conflicts.

Moreover, if he truly became a Psionic Master capable of moving mountains and filling seas, possessing super individual strength, it might actually be no less effective than a full army or faction bonus.

After making the selection, Gu Hang immediately felt a surge of heat rush from his chest to every part of his body, down to his extremities.

His face became flushed because of it. Fortunately, only the Servitor Soldiers nearby saw it, and these modified humans who don't think for themselves wouldn't ask any awkward questions.

"Phew..." Letting out a long, hot breath, Gu Hang felt his body now full of energy. He could feel his muscles becoming more defined, his joints more flexible, his hearing and sight clearer, and his thoughts quicker...

An all-around enhancement!

Wait... I chose the Psionic Power Talent, didn't I? Why does it feel like my Physique attribute increased?

He recalled the System again and saw the data-driven upgrade effects.

[Hero: Gu Hang (Faction Leader), LV2, Insufficient Experience for Upgrade]

[Physique: 8, Psionic Power: 15]

[Traits: Psionic Caster, Governor of Wrath Owl Star]

Talents:

[Psionic Shielding: When taking damage, you can expend Psionic Power to offset the damage. Psionic Power +1]

Physique did indeed increase. This seems to be because a level increase naturally boosts base attributes. His Physique was somewhat low, so the boost was noticeable; the boost to Psionic Power was less obvious.

The final increase in Psionic Power was due to the new Talent, Psionic Shielding.

The Physique boost is good; being healthier and stronger is always a plus. The increase in Psionic Power allows him to cast more Psionic Spells, and the spell power will also increase.

The most important aspect of the Psionic ShieldingTalent is its actual effect.

With a thought, he felt a magical energy permeate his entire body, soaking every cell. When an external blow arrives, the corresponding damage will be offset by Psionic Power until he manually deactivates the ability or runs out of Psionic Power.

Crucially, Psionic Shielding's performance is excellent. It is a passive effect that can be toggled. When active, it has no cost until damage is received, so he doesn't have to worry about not activating the skill in time, even against a sneak attack. And in a critical situation, he can temporarily turn it off, risk taking a hit to save some Psionic Power for a counter-kill.

In short, the operation is very flexible.

Gu Hang was very satisfied with this practical Mana-for-HP skill.
