Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Understanding the Dragon

Naruto: The Dragonoid's Legacy

*Konoha Hospital - Research Wing - Next Morning*

Naruto sat shirtless on an examination table while Tsunade circled him like a predator studying prey. Her amber eyes were sharp and analytical, occasionally glowing green with medical chakra as she scanned his body.

"Fascinating," she muttered, making notes on a clipboard. "Your cellular structure has completely transformed. You still have human DNA, but it's been infused with something else entirely. Something that shouldn't be possible."

"Is that bad?" Naruto asked nervously.

"Bad? Kid, this is revolutionary!" Tsunade's eyes gleamed with scientific excitement. "Do you have any idea what you represent? A successful cross-dimensional biological integration! The medical applications alone could—" She stopped herself, noticing Naruto's confused expression. "Never mind. Point is, you're a medical miracle."

Shizune stood nearby, recording data. "Tsunade-sama, his energy pathways are completely different from normal chakra networks. There's the standard 361 tenketsu points, but there's also this... secondary network running parallel to it."

"The magicules," Naruto supplied. "That's what the Kyuubi calls the dragonoid energy. It flows through different pathways than chakra."

"Smart fox," Tsunade pressed her glowing hand against Naruto's chest. "That explains why the Hyuga's Gentle Fist didn't work on you. They were sealing your chakra points, but your magicule pathways remained open. Can you access both energies simultaneously?"

"Yeah. Sometimes I mix them together without meaning to."

"Show me. Transform, but slowly this time. I want to see the energy conversion in real-time."

Naruto nodded and closed his eyes, reaching for that familiar warmth inside him. Instead of letting it burst out all at once, he released it gradually.

His eyes shifted first, blue slowly bleeding into gold. Tsunade's medical chakra-enhanced vision watched in fascination as the energy transformed his irises at the cellular level, restructuring the eye tissue itself.

"Incredible," she breathed. "Your eyes aren't just changing color—they're actually evolving into a different organ. The visual acuity must be off the charts."

"I can see pretty far," Naruto admitted. "And really clearly. Like, I can count the leaves on a tree from a mile away if I focus."

Next came the horns. Tsunade watched as bone and energy combined, creating structures that emerged from his temples—translucent, crystalline, beautiful in their otherworldly nature.

"The horns are condensed magicules given physical form," she observed. "They're acting as natural energy collectors and amplifiers. Fascinating. They're similar to how Sage Mode works, but completely different in execution."

Finally, the wings. As they erupted from Naruto's back, Tsunade had to step back to avoid being hit. The magnificent dragon wings spread wide, pink and gold energy crackling across their translucent membranes.

"By the Sage of Six Paths," Shizune gasped. "They're beautiful."

"They're also functionally impossible," Tsunade said, though her tone was approving. "Those wings shouldn't be able to support your weight based on their structure. Which means they're not using conventional aerodynamics—they're using raw energy to create lift."

"I never really thought about how they work," Naruto admitted. "They just... do."

"That's instinct. The dragonoid nature giving you knowledge you didn't consciously learn." Tsunade made more notes. "Can you manifest them partially? Just one wing, for instance?"

Naruto tried. His right wing remained manifested while the left faded away. It felt weird and off-balance, but possible.

"Good. That means you have fine control over the transformation. Not just an all-or-nothing switch." Tsunade tapped her pen against the clipboard. "Now, show me your maximum power output. I want to see what you're really capable of."

"Here? In the hospital?"

"We're in a reinforced testing chamber, brat. See those seals on the walls? They can contain a Tailed Beast blast. You won't break anything." Tsunade smirked. "Unless you're stronger than a Tailed Beast?"

That felt like a challenge. The Milim part of Naruto's personality perked up immediately.

"Wahaha! You want to see what I can do? Alright!" Naruto hopped off the examination table, his wings flaring. "Stand back!"

He gathered his magicules, letting them flow freely through his body. Pink-and-gold energy erupted around him like flames. The air itself began to vibrate with power. His eyes blazed pure gold, and his presence—that overwhelming dragonoid aura—filled the room.

The seals on the walls began glowing, activating automatically to contain the energy.

Tsunade's eyes widened. She'd fought in three wars, faced countless powerful opponents, and this kid—this thirteen-year-old kid—was radiating power that rivaled Kage-level shinobi.

"That's... that's approximately 40% of your maximum output," Naruto said, his voice carrying that dual-toned quality. "If I go higher, I start losing fine motor control. The Milim personality takes over more."

"40%?" Tsunade's voice was faint. "Kid, at 40% you're already putting out more raw power than most Jonin. What the hell happens at 100%?"

"I don't know. Haven't tried it yet." Naruto pulled the energy back in, reverting to normal. "Pervy Sage said I shouldn't go above 50% until I have better control. At higher percentages, I get... impulsive. Battle-hungry. I want to fight everything and laugh maniacally."

"The personality bleed-through you mentioned," Tsunade nodded. "That's actually a defense mechanism. This Milim entity was probably a combat-focused being. Her instincts are trying to protect you by taking over when you access more power."

"So how do I stop it?"

"You don't stop it. You integrate it." Tsunade sat down, gesturing for Naruto to do the same. "Listen, kid. You're not fully human anymore, but you're not fully dragonoid either. You're something in between—something new. Fighting against parts of yourself will only cause internal conflict and loss of control."

"So what do I do?"

"You accept all parts of yourself. The human Naruto who loves ramen and dreams of being Hokage. The Jinchuuriki who carries the Nine-Tails. And the dragonoid who inherited a Demon Lord's power and personality." Tsunade's expression was serious. "They're all you. Stop treating them as separate things."

Naruto sat in silence, processing that. In his mindscape, the Kyuubi stirred.

*The woman is wise,* the fox rumbled. *I've been telling you the same thing, but you haven't listened. You keep trying to suppress the dragonoid nature instead of accepting it as part of who you are.*

*But if I accept it, if I let Milim's personality merge with mine, will I still be me?*

*You'll be MORE you. A complete version instead of a fractured one.*

"It's scary," Naruto admitted aloud. "What if I lose myself?"

"You won't," Tsunade said firmly. "You know why? Because you have bonds. People you care about. Dreams you want to achieve. Those anchor you to who you are. The dragonoid power might change how you express yourself, but it won't change your core values unless you let it."

She stood up and ruffled his hair—a gesture so unexpected that Naruto froze.

"You remind me of my little brother," Tsunade said softly. "Nawaki. He dreamed of being Hokage too. Had the same stupid determination you do."

"What happened to him?"

"He died. In the war. He was only twelve." Pain flickered across Tsunade's face. "That's when I learned that the Hokage position is a death sentence. Everyone who takes that title dies for the village."

"I know," Naruto said quietly. "I watched the Third Hokage die. But... he died protecting what he loved. That's not a bad way to go."

Tsunade looked at him sharply. "You really mean that, don't you? You'd actually die for this village, even after how they've treated you?"

"Not for the village," Naruto corrected. "For the people in it. The ones I care about. Iruka-sensei, Pervy Sage, Kakashi-sensei, Sakura, even Sasuke's grumpy butt. I'd die a hundred times to protect them."

Something shifted in Tsunade's expression. The hard cynicism cracked slightly, revealing old pain underneath.

"You really are like Nawaki," she whispered. Then, louder: "Alright, brat. We're done with examinations for today. Tomorrow, we start actual training. I'm going to teach you how to integrate your different energy sources and achieve better control."

"Really?!" Naruto's eyes lit up. "You're going to train me?"

"Don't get too excited. My training is hell. I'm going to push you harder than anyone has before." Tsunade's smirk was dangerous. "By the time I'm done with you, you'll wish you'd never asked."

"Bring it on! I'll show you what I can do!"

"That's the spirit." Tsunade headed for the door, then paused. "Oh, and Naruto? Thank you."

"For what?"

"For reminding me that there are still people worth protecting in this village."

**Training Ground Seven - Later That Day**

Naruto found Team 7 already assembled when he arrived. Kakashi was reading his orange book, Sakura was practicing kunai throws, and Sasuke was going through kata with intense focus.

"Naruto!" Sakura waved. "How did the examination with Tsunade-sama go?"

"It was weird but interesting," Naruto grinned. "She's going to start training me tomorrow! Isn't that cool?"

"Lucky," Sakura pouted. "I wish I could train with one of the Legendary Sannin."

"Actually," Kakashi closed his book, "that's part of what I wanted to talk to you all about. Team dynamics are about to change significantly."

All three Genin gave him their attention.

"Naruto, your unique situation requires specialized training that I'm not equipped to provide. You'll be working primarily with Jiraiya-sama and Tsunade-sama for the foreseeable future."

"What about team missions?" Naruto asked, concerned.

"We'll still do some together, but your training schedule will be different from Sasuke and Sakura's." Kakashi's visible eye focused on Sasuke. "Which brings me to you. The cursed seal Orochimaru placed on you—we need to address that."

Sasuke's hand went reflexively to his neck where the seal was hidden beneath his collar. "What about it?"

"It's dangerous. The seal draws out power, but at a cost. It corrupts your chakra and creates a vulnerability that Orochimaru can exploit." Kakashi's tone was serious. "I've spoken with Tsunade. She believes she can suppress it with a seal of her own, but you need to agree to the procedure."

"No."

The flat refusal surprised everyone.

"Sasuke—" Sakura started.

"I said no." Sasuke's Sharingan activated. "That seal is power. Power I need to kill my brother. I'm not giving it up."

"Even if it means Orochimaru can control you?" Kakashi pressed.

"I'll learn to control it myself." Sasuke's eyes flickered to Naruto. "If the dead-last can master dragonoid power, I can master a cursed seal."

Naruto felt the jab but chose not to rise to it. "It's not a competition, Sasuke."

"Isn't it?" Sasuke's voice was cold. "You got this incredible power handed to you. Wings, energy attacks, strength that can match a Tailed Beast. Meanwhile, I'm stuck with a cursed mark and a clan massacre hanging over my head."

"Sasuke-kun, that's not fair—" Sakura tried to intervene.

"Fair?" Sasuke laughed bitterly. "Nothing about this is fair. Naruto gets divine power from another dimension. I get a snake's curse. But I'll use what I have. I'll become strong enough to kill Itachi, no matter what it takes."

"Even if it destroys you?" Kakashi's voice was quiet but intense.

"Even then."

An uncomfortable silence fell over the training ground.

Naruto's fists clenched. He could feel the darkness growing in Sasuke—the obsession with power, the willingness to sacrifice anything for revenge. It reminded him of something Milim's memories had shown him: the path of those who let hatred consume them.

"Sasuke," Naruto said carefully, "I get wanting power. But if you let revenge control you, you'll lose everything else."

"What would you know about it?" Sasuke's Sharingan blazed. "You don't have a family to avenge. You don't know what it's like to see everyone you love slaughtered by the person you trusted most!"

"You're right. I don't know that pain." Naruto met his eyes steadily. "But I know what it's like to be alone. To be hated. To want to prove yourself so badly it hurts. And I know that power without purpose just makes you a weapon, not a person."

"Then I'll be a weapon. A weapon pointed at Itachi Uchiha."

"That's enough," Kakashi's voice cut through the tension. "Sasuke, you're dismissed for today. Go cool off. We'll discuss the seal suppression later."

For a moment, it looked like Sasuke would argue. Then he turned on his heel and left in a swirl of leaves, using the Body Flicker technique.

Sakura looked torn between following him and staying. "Should I...?"

"Let him go," Kakashi said gently. "He needs time to process." He sighed deeply. "This is my failure as a teacher. I should have seen how deep his hatred runs."

"It's not your fault, sensei," Naruto said. "Sasuke's dealing with stuff we can't really understand. We just have to be there for him when he's ready."

"When did you get so wise?" Kakashi eye-smiled, though it didn't reach his tone.

"Tsunade told me something today about accepting all parts of myself. I guess it applies to accepting other people too—even the dark parts."

Sakura looked at Naruto with new appreciation. "You've really changed, Naruto. Not just the power thing. You're more... mature."

"Having a Demon Lord's memories floating around in your head will do that," Naruto scratched his head sheepishly. "Milim lived for thousands of years. Sometimes I get flashes of her experiences. It's weird."

"That must be difficult," Kakashi said thoughtfully. "Having two sets of memories and instincts."

"Three if you count the Kyuubi occasionally sharing stuff," Naruto corrected. "Yeah, it gets crowded in here sometimes." He tapped his head.

"Have you thought about talking to Inoichi Yamanaka?" Kakashi suggested. "He specializes in mental health for shinobi. Might help you organize all those different influences."

"Maybe. For now, I'm just trying to take it one day at a time."

Kakashi nodded approvingly. "That's a good approach. Now, since Sasuke left early, how about we do some training? I want to see how your dragonoid abilities interact with standard jutsu."

"Really?!" Naruto perked up. "What do you want me to try?"

"Start with your signature move. Shadow Clones. But this time, try infusing them with magicules instead of chakra."

Naruto formed the hand seal. "**Shadow Clone Jutsu!**"

Twenty clones appeared, but they were different. Instead of perfect copies, they glowed faintly with pink-and-gold energy. Their eyes were gold instead of blue, and they radiated power.

"Whoa," one clone said. "We feel STRONG!"

"Try dispelling them one at a time," Kakashi instructed. "I want to see if the memory transfer works differently."

Naruto had one clone dispel. The memories flooded back, but along with them came a surge of energy—the magicules returning to the original.

"That's different from normal clones," Naruto observed. "With regular Shadow Clones, I just get the memories. With these, I get the energy back too."

"Which means you could use them as energy batteries," Kakashi's visible eye widened. "Send out clones infused with magicules, have them gather more ambient energy, then dispel them to return it to you. That's an incredibly efficient training and recovery method."

"I hadn't thought of that!" Naruto grinned. "That's genius, sensei!"

"Don't get too excited. We need to test if it works first." Kakashi pulled out a stopwatch. "Send out fifty clones. Have them meditate and try to absorb ambient energy for ten minutes. Then dispel them and tell me what you feel."

"Got it!" Naruto created the clones and sent them to different parts of the training ground.

While they worked, Sakura approached Kakashi nervously. "Sensei, can I ask you something?"

"Of course."

"I want to be stronger. Not just for myself, but to be actually useful to the team. Naruto has his dragonoid power. Sasuke has his Sharingan and now that cursed seal. And I have... what? Book smarts and decent chakra control?"

Kakashi studied his female student thoughtfully. "Your chakra control is exceptional, Sakura. Better than most Jonin. Do you know what that means?"

"That I can do precise jutsu?"

"It means you're perfectly suited for medical ninjutsu." Kakashi smiled. "I was thinking of asking Tsunade to take you as an apprentice. If you're interested."

Sakura's eyes widened. "Really?! You think she would?"

"I think she needs a student who can carry on her legacy. And you have the dedication and control to handle it." Kakashi's tone became serious. "But fair warning—Tsunade's training is brutal. She broke mountains for practice. Are you ready for that?"

"Yes!" Sakura's determination blazed in her eyes. "I want to stand beside my teammates as an equal, not a burden they have to protect!"

"That's the spirit. I'll arrange a meeting."

Naruto's clones suddenly all dispelled at once. The rush of energy and memories hit him like a tidal wave. He staggered, his eyes blazing gold, wings partially manifesting before he got control.

"Whoa! That was intense!" Naruto gasped. "It worked! They absorbed ambient energy and when they dispelled, it all came back to me! I feel like I could run a marathon!"

"Excellent," Kakashi made notes. "This gives us a training method that can work in parallel with Tsunade's instruction. You can use clones to practice control while the original works on integration."

"This is so cool! I can't wait to tell Pervy Sage!"

As if summoned, Jiraiya appeared on the training ground fence. "Tell me what?"

"Jiraiya-sama!" Kakashi nodded in greeting. "We just discovered Naruto's magicule-infused clones can absorb ambient energy and return it to him."

"Really?" Jiraiya's eyebrows rose. "That's... that could revolutionize how we approach his training. Kid, you just stumbled onto something incredibly valuable."

"Wahaha! I'm a genius!" Naruto posed dramatically.

"Don't let it go to your head, brat," Jiraiya laughed. "Actually, I came to tell you something. I'm leaving the village for a few weeks."

"What?! Why?!"

"Intel gathering. Orochimaru is out there somewhere, and I need to track his movements. Plus, there are rumors about an organization called the Akatsuki that I need to investigate." Jiraiya's expression became serious. "While I'm gone, you'll be training with Tsunade. Follow her instructions, and for the love of the Sage, don't destroy the village."

"I won't!" Naruto protested.

"I'm serious, kid. You're getting stronger every day, but power without discipline is dangerous." Jiraiya ruffled his hair affectionately. "I'll be back before you know it. Try not to cause too much chaos."

"No promises!"

As Jiraiya disappeared in a swirl of leaves, Naruto felt a pang of loneliness. First the Hokage, now Jiraiya leaving. Everyone important kept leaving.

*You're not alone,* the Kyuubi rumbled. *You have your team. Your friends. And you have me, for what it's worth.*

*Thanks, furball.*

*Don't call me furball, brat.*

Naruto smiled despite himself.

"Alright," Kakashi said, "let's continue training. Sakura, work on your chakra control exercises. Naruto, I want you to practice precise energy manipulation. Create the smallest, most controlled burst of magicules you can."

"That sounds boring," Naruto complained.

"It's essential. You can already create massive explosions of power. Now you need to learn finesse." Kakashi's visible eye crinkled. "Think of it like cooking ramen. You can't just dump everything in a pot and hope it works out. You need precise measurements and timing."

"Don't compare my awesome dragonoid power to ramen!" Naruto paused. "Actually, that kind of makes sense."

"Thought you'd see it that way."

As the training session continued, none of them noticed the ROOT operative watching from a distant tree, recording everything.

---

**ROOT Headquarters - That Evening**

"Interesting," Danzo reviewed the reports. "The boy's power is evolving faster than anticipated. Energy absorption through clones. Integration training with Tsunade. He's becoming formidable."

"Should we accelerate our plans?" the operative asked.

"No. Patience." Danzo's fingers drummed on his desk. "Let him become stronger. Let the village come to depend on him. Then, when the time is right, we'll remind everyone that he's still the Nine-Tails Jinchuuriki—still a weapon to be controlled."

"And if he refuses to comply?"

"Then we have contingencies." Danzo pulled out a file marked with the Uchiha clan symbol. "Young Sasuke is spiraling into darkness. His hatred grows stronger each day. Perhaps we can guide that hatred... shape it into something useful."

"You plan to turn them against each other?"

"I plan to ensure Konoha's survival by any means necessary." Danzo's eye glinted coldly. "Whether that means controlling the dragonoid or eliminating him depends entirely on which option serves the village best."

---

**Naruto's Apartment - Late Night**

Naruto lay in bed, his mind too active for sleep. Tomorrow would bring new training with Tsunade. New challenges. New growth.

But tonight, he was thinking about Sasuke.

His teammate was drowning in hatred, and Naruto didn't know how to help. The dragonoid power had given him strength, but it couldn't fix broken hearts or heal emotional wounds.

*You can't save everyone,* Milim's voice whispered in his memories. *Sometimes people have to save themselves. All you can do is be there when they're ready.*

*But what if he's never ready? What if he falls so deep into darkness I can't reach him?*

*Then you do what you have to do. As a friend. As a rival. As someone who cares.*

Naruto's eyes glowed gold in the darkness. Pink-and-gold energy pulsed gently around his heart.

"I won't give up on you, Sasuke," he whispered to the empty room. "That's my ninja way. No matter how dark it gets, I'll keep reaching for you."

In the distance, thunder rumbled.

A storm was coming.

But Naruto Uzumaki—human, Jinchuuriki, and dragonoid—would face it head-on.

Just like he always did.
