"Hm? Why do you say that?"
Wang Zhi looked at Ying, who had just seemed utterly listless, wondering why she suddenly felt the current World was quite good.
"Just as you said, as long as we don't die, we can do whatever we want—we can live in seclusion, establish our own small nation, and do as we please," Ying laughed.
"Yes... Sister Ying, our team is currently Level 2, and we are one person short. I was thinking of assigning Jia Liuli to our team. What do you think?"
"That sounds fine, one more sister. But you're not just thinking she's good-looking, are you?" Ying said contemptuously.
"No, no! No one is as good-looking as our Sister Ying. I'm purely deciding based on her strength and character," Wang Zhi quickly shook his head.
"Hmph! What if she doesn't want to join us?"
"If that were the case, she wouldn't have appeared downstairs in the first place," Wang Zhi said with certainty.
"Fine, suit yourself," Ying replied indifferently.
After Wang Zhi and the other person finished their watch duty for the first half of the night, they woke up Fatty and Old He. Wang Zhi tossed the half-pack of remaining cigarettes to Old He and found a spot to lie down himself.
Due to various factors, Wang Zhi hadn't properly rested in nearly 40 hours. As soon as he lay down, he felt an unprecedented weariness and drifted off to sleep without realizing it.
October 3rd, 2025, Overcast.
At 5 o'clock in the morning, Wang Zhi suddenly sat up from the ground, instinctively touching the gun tucked at his waist.
He looked around nervously, saw Fatty chatting with Old He by a side platform, and Ying resting with her eyes closed against the wall. He then breathed a sigh of relief.
Sleeping too deeply under these circumstances was absolutely taboo; fortunately, nothing had happened.
"Yo! Captain Wang, you're awake?" Fatty said upon seeing Wang Zhi sit up.
"Yeah, let's eat something, and then we'll head to the Western restaurant," Wang Zhi said, as Ying also opened her eyes and walked over.
After the four finished eating, they selected three sturdy-looking male students and tasked them with leading the way and carrying supplies.
The chosen students were naturally reluctant; no one wanted to do such an extremely dangerous job!
But in the end, they yielded to the gun in Wang Zhi's hand. Facing a near-certain death outside was better than dying right now.
Wang Zhi walked over to Jia Liuli and gave her his knife for self-defense.
"Be careful, and protect yourselves."
After Wang Zhi finished speaking, the group tidied up briefly and slowly opened the door to the Rooftop, preparing to go downstairs to the Western restaurant.
Since they had cleared out the Zombies inside the building yesterday, they only encountered and killed one Zombie on their way down to the first floor.
But once they reached the first floor, the number of Zombies increased significantly; about ten more Zombies had entered the main hall!
This nearly caused the three accompanying students behind them to cry out in fright.
Fortunately, Captain Wang had warned them, so now they could only tightly cover their mouths, daring not to make the slightest sound.
Ying and Old He took charge of these ten-plus Zombies; Captain Wang and Fatty would avoid firing their guns if possible because their marksmanship was simply too poor.
A short while later, the Zombies in the hall were easily eliminated by the group, almost without wasting a single bullet. Captain Wang had to admire the accuracy of the two.
The group proceeded to the West Athletic Field, where the corpses of Zombies burned the day before still littered the grounds.
"The cafeteria is just ahead!" one of the students from the back caught up and whispered.
"En, when we get in, we'll cover you. See food and take it; try to grab as much as you can," Captain Wang instructed the students, then continued walking forward.
However, the closer they got to the cafeteria, the fewer Zombies there were around, which made Captain Wang feel something was very wrong.
"This is a bit abnormal," Captain Wang suddenly stopped.
"What's wrong?" Old He asked, puzzled.
"There are too few Zombies here; the scarcity is abnormal!" Captain Wang stated.
"This... Captain Wang, don't scare me," Fatty said fearfully.
"Find a spot; use the binoculars to observe the situation inside."
No matter what, they needed to check the interior first. Everyone took out their binoculars and aimed them toward the cafeteria.
"Holy crap!" Fatty exclaimed in shock.
Looking through the binoculars, the cafeteria was packed with Zombies, all milling about inside.
Seeing the situation, forget about going in for food—they couldn't even get through the door!
"Is this a Zombie nest? So many Zombies!" Fatty remarked from the side.
"Heh, everyone rushed here looking for food, but without exception, they all met their end here," Ying observed.
"So what do we do now? Head back?" Fatty asked.
"We have to find another way. Without food, they won't last much longer," Wang Zhi mused, looking down.
"Brother... I know a place; maybe there's still some food left," a student from the back offered.
"Damn it! Why didn't you say so sooner?" Fatty slapped the student who spoke.
"It's… it's a Convenience Store. It's full of snacks, and the warehouse is in the basement of a residential building," the student quickly explained.
"Are many people aware of it?" Wang Zhi didn't want to go only to find another Zombie nest.
"N-not many. That Convenience Store usually takes online orders and delivers directly to the dorms; very few people know about their warehouse."
"Excellent! We'll head there. You had better not try anything funny," Wang Zhi said, pulling out a map and having the student point out the general direction.
After pinpointing the location, the group changed their route once more.
The location was to the east of where they currently were, situated in a residential district.
Drawing on the lessons from yesterday, the four of them managed to move without attracting a disturbance, eliminating Zombies from a distance as they went.
After a while, the four quickly arrived at the residential building the classmate had mentioned. It was a row of slightly dilapidated low-rise apartment blocks; the basement entrance for this type of older building was located within the ground floor lobby.
After observing the surrounding situation briefly and confirming there was no danger, the group entered the building first.
The corridor inside was somewhat dark. Wang Zhi switched on the light mounted on his chest and cautiously moved deeper into the basement.
Clink~
Wang Zhi tossed a bullet toward the corner ahead.
In a blind spot like this, he had to use a lure to check.
As expected, the moment the bullet landed, two Zombies immediately let out low growls and lunged at the spot where it hit.
Seeing the Zombies suddenly surge out, everyone immediately opened fire and took them down.
The Convenience Store was at the far end of the basement. The group reached the door there. Wang Zhi gave it a hard tug; the door was closed. There shouldn't be any Zombies inside; those two must have wandered in from outside.
"The door is locked. Should we just force it open?" Wang Zhi turned to look at the others.
"Let me handle it." Sister Ying stepped forward and pulled a piece of wire from her bag.
"Sister Ying, you know how to do this too?" Wang Zhi watched as Ying worked on the lock.
"A little."
After Sister Ying squatted down and worked on the lock for a moment, the mechanism clicked open!
Once the lock was open, Sister Ying tried pulling the door, but it wouldn't budge!
She then tried pushing it, but that didn't work either.
However, it was noticeable that when she pushed the door inward, it shifted slightly!
