Chapter 2 - Highway to Hell

I woke up on a train. As my vision cleared, I discovered I was sitting in a passenger compartment, with only four other people. Posted on a wall was a map, with a colored line from Tempest, my hometown, to the Underworld. I sat up confused, but then I remembered. I was accused of committing six hundred and seventy eight sins, and that the Underworld was my new home. On the table in front of me was a pamphlet about the Underworld. I picked it up and read through it.

The pamphlet taught me nothing new. I have committed over two hundred sins, so my designated home would be the Underworld. It also read that almost nobody had gained a Gods Blessing and received their Boon, which made it into an extremely unsafe city. In addition to criminals, the town had no God-force to protect them from monsters.

I sighed. Kaizen was probably praying to the Gods by now, and he might receive the blessing and join the God-force. But for me, that option was no longer available. Gods don't listen to sinners. My future was looking to be barely surviving through hell, eventually dying.

I decided to look around the train, and familiarize myself with my fellow sinners, before their end. I was on the taller side, just shy of six feet. My brown hair was cut short, and had a glossy look, that matches my golden eyes. I've also been good at socializing, so this should be easy. Only now to choose who to speak to first...

There were four people on the train. One was a teenager with long pink hair, her magenta eyes sparkling in the setting sun. She wore a simple dress, and was looking out onto the sunset. There was a nervous boy, about his age, with wavy hair, shifting red to orange. His eyes were bright green, and he was eating a mango. Another was a shifty looking man, with long grey hair. He was spinning a pencil around, and he gave me a murderous look when his gaze caught mine. I shivered and looked away. The last person was someone in the maroon and white uniform of the God-force, most likely here to make sure we did not commit crimes. She gave off an intimidating aura, and I decided it was best for me to look away before she noticed.

My gaze turned back to the girl with pink hair. The longer I looked at her, the more beautiful she became. The flowers on her dress started to spin, and a sweet scent filled the air. I felt the desire to give her everything I have, on the off-chance that would make her happy. As I began to look through my belongings to give to her, I suddenly had a moment of clarity. It was if my mind was being manipulated. Why would I give my stuff to a girl who I don't even know the name of? I looked back at her, and the flowers stopped spinning, and the air smelled of coal. She looked at me, then scowled and turned away. I wondered if she was upset that her mind trick did not work, or if it was because I was staring at her.

I wondered it for a bit before the whole train shook, and an explosion of dust rocketed the windows.
