The day was going normally as any other day, sitting in front of the screens looking at chart piled data and shit ton loads of paper work keeping me busy and confined on my desk. Its been months since me and Eugeo last visited our son 'I wonder how he is doing.... Did he went to school today?..., Should I call him up to see?' I sighed as my mind wandered around with such thoughts. 'I should probably just call him' I finally decided and turned on my watch swiping through it and called for Meryl. There was no response just a pop up window saying 'USER IS OUT OF NETWORK', I don't know why but it just pissed me off 'Where did that brat go?... Did he bunked his classes?.... Did something happened to him?' I couldn't focus much on my work at this point. I stretched back on my chair looking up at the ceiling as if I was lost in thought, the door to my left slid open suddenly and Eugeo walked inside carrying two cups on each hands "You want a coffee?" he asked with his usual kind smile 'Seeing his smile takes away half of my worries' I thought "Sure.. I was thinking about a coffee break" I replied with a smile of my own. I stood up from my chair and stretched my stiff hands to the sides then walked towards the bed on the back and I sat down, Eugeo followed me behind and sat beside me handing over my coffee. The cup was warm to the touch with steam puffing outwards, my eyes wandered throughout the room seeing the usual silver metallic walls, polished tiles on the floor, the air vents on the roof my mind was restless and finally my eyes landed on Eugeo's face. He drank his coffee rather calmly, his shiny black hair that looks unusually bright no matter how many times I see it "Is there something on your mind?" he asked turning his head towards me. I stayed silent for a second "No.. not really its just... " I couldn't finish the sentence, 'I don't want to make you worry' I pondered tilting my face away from his. "Is it about Meryl?" he asked, but it felt like he was confirming the fact that I was worried about my son "Yes... I miss him dear" I finally said it, he placed his right arm around my shoulders and pulled me to his chest. "I tried to call him just now but it wouldn't connect.. What if something happened to him and we weren't there for him... " I said my eyes almost watering my voice started to shake but I don't want him to notice so I made my head tilted downwards. Eugeo hugged me suddenly making me spill the coffee on the floor as I let out a surprised yelp "Sasha.. I know how hard it has been for you" he paused for a moment then stroking the back of my head "I miss him too you know but I know he is a strong kid and I know he will be alright". His left hand tracing on my chin and pulling my head up to his face,I know he is trying to comfort me eventhough he is the one who misses Meryl more than I do but he will never show it outsid , the struggle I went through to not to cry in front of him went into vain as tears started to flood down I couldn't hide it anymore so I embraced Eugeo tightly and let it all flow.
A few minutes of silence followed as I finally calmed down my face still buried inside Eugeo's chest his hand stroking my head gently "My shirt isn't a tissue paper you know" he teased me, I hit him on his stomach just enough not to hurt him too much. "Ouch" he lifted up my head with his hands squeezing my face between his palms "That hurt a bit" he smirked "Well it was supposed to hurt, you dipshit" I replied to his tease. "Why is your foul mouth still running high like that" he asked squeezing each side of my cheeks with his palms "Oh if you had such a problem with my mouth you shouldn't have married me" Eugeo didn't gave a reply he simply smiled moving his face closer so our lips could meet in a kiss. I was caught off guard with the sudden intimacy but I didn't resisted I needed this right now, my heartbeat was getting loud enough for me to hear, I think he also hears it. His lips parted back, the left thumb tracing my lips "Well your foul mouth is also a reason why I fell for you" Eugeo said in the most charming way possible. I tilted my head down in embarrassment then punched him hard on gut which made him jolt with pain making him coil around on the bed, "Dumbass" I murmured, "Seriously why would you hit me like that" he asked still coiled on the bed "That's what you get for putting me on the spot bastard" I replied facing away to hide my smile. A smile that came because of you Eugeo but I think he knew I was smiling he always has been able to tell what I would think or was about to do, "Meryl really takes after you with the foul mouth too, plus add to all the combact training you gave him" he paused "I know he can handle anything, you raised him well afterall Sasha" hearing it from Eugeo's mouth made me sort of proud and heartfelt. "Well he has your looks and that cheeky attitude" I said while walking towards the closet to grab my coat and specs "Cheeky huh, well tell you what after today's experiment how about we both take a leave and go meet with him for an outing" Eugeo stood from the bed and walked towards the counter to activate the cleaning bot it lighted up and started to move towards the spill on the floor. "Are you serious?" "Of course I am let's go and see him" I smiled at his words unable to contain my joy "Thank you Eugeo... I can't wait". The intercom on my room started to buzz "Mr and Mrs Reymond please report to sub level 5 for field experiment" I sighed from thinking about dealing with another failure but I was also excited to go out as a family after a long time.
The field room was lively and noisy with all the machine readings and chattering between my colleagues with their screens open, hands working overtime getting everything ready before the chief comes in. This huge room was built soo well that no one would think its underground, there are thirty researchers who all are seated in their own desk with attached systems, the safety crew on standby consist of fifteen people. We all were seated in a round parliament manner with a huge deep vaccum space in between running below us separated by thick glass, Eugeo is the one who handles the machines in this vaccum and us on the upper side collect and analyse the data we procure. The heavy door on the back opened loudly as our Chief of operations Dr Avldis stepped in and the voices inside the room died out, the man looked like he had aged some more since last week, he stood tall wearing his coat with badges showing off his position, his bald head slightly reflecting the light from within the room 'This will never stop being funny' I laughed inside. He walked and stood closely at the glass barrier carrying his tablet on the hand looking at it for a while then he turned around with a serious look. "Morning team" he began to speak "As you all might have guessed today is the last day we will be carrying out this experiment since we weren't able to get any satisfiable results these past four months" he started to walk around the glass. 'Obviously you won't get results for something that does not exist shithead' he has been trying to obtain a new element he calls mana saying that our world once had rich mana and now we are going to rediscover it, I sighed 'He reads too much comics and its messing with his head'. "I know some of you doesn't believe in what we are doing" he continued "But all the doubts wil end today" he turned to us "Team! Start the reactors", 'Alright here we go again' the room started to come to life again "Reactors at 40% capacity" "Operational parameters check" "Backup reactors functional" "Emergency protocols on standby function" "Reactors charged at 80% capacity" such sounds filled the room quickly each doing there own work so did I. "Ground team be ready to enter the zone" I said over my mic attached on the desk "Activating shifters" three long mechanical arm each attached with a condensed power emitter attached at the end started to come together from three sides within the vaccum towards the centre. "Shifters in place.., Ground team move in" I said and the crew lead by Eugeo assembled wearing there protective suits for vaccum carrying a huge power cord that needs to be attached to the shifters two at one ratio.
