SASHA REYMOND.
The vaccum room's door on three sides directly behind the shifters opened and the crew led by Eugeo came rushing in holding the power cables in hand dragging it around the lighted floor. I watched them through my screen while setting up further procedures on my system "Hey Sasha" my colleague and friend Ann who sat beside me called "Yea what's up?" I asked. "You looked like you were tense, did something happened?" she didn't even turned her eyes towards me instead it was glued to the screen in front of her doing her job, "No, why did you asked?" "Hmm call it intuition but I felt like you were tense for some reason" she replied but this time she turned her face towards me with a cheeky smile. "Why doesn't that intuition of yours doesn't happen during work hours" I joked "Hey why am I suddenly being bullied by my colleague" she smiled and watching her I also let out a chuckle. "What about you?...are you not nervous?" I turned my seat rolling towards her and asked, "Hmm I am not particularly nervous about anything right now... But" she paused smiling with a slight redness on her cheeks and her palm gently stroking her belly. I realised what it meant, seeing her face, her fidgeting also reminded me of such a time, "You are pregnant?" I asked her "How did you figure it out?" "Call it my intuition" I watched her fidgeting and covering her smile with her id that was hanging around from her collar. "Congratulations, so did you told it to him yet?" "Well I also only found out before coming in for today's experiment soo... I haven't got the time yet" she replied with a hinge of sadness atleast that's how it sounded like. Unlike me Ann is just entering on her life's first steps, I felt a warm feeling inside me reminding me of the time when I was pregnant with Meryl, I can still remember Eugeo picking me up from the bed and spinning me around carrying on his arms when he first heard about it. Good times like this always flews by fast and if the oppurtunity is missed we might be late to cherish it "Well don't fret much about it, you can tell him soon" "I can't wait to see what kind of expression he will make when I say it" Ann chuckled again before continuing her work. "Power cords have been connected and load value is positive ranging at 7.8" Eugeo called out, "Copy that..readings are confirmed, fall back ground team" I said back and the men inside the chamber quickly went back inside through the door they came in. "Chief we are ready to begin" I announced it to him.
Dr Avldis stood still at the front of the glass barrier looking at something on his hand but I couldn't see what it was I could only see his back and the light reflected slightly on his bald head. "Log : 45 / ID - 890AM" he began speaking "Commence the experiment" he ordered but his voice was somehow unusually shaky yet firm in someway. Maybe it's because today is the last day for this nonsense I pity the guy for going mad like this over something that doesn't exist then again that's also our job as researchers. The room was silent as the machines rhymed together powering up, the end of the shifters began to glow all facing on the centre, the energy from reactors pumping towards the end of the relay. The built up power on the relays began to pulse outward making all three beams of energy clashing together at one single point making the chamber go into a hue red colour "Pulse ratings are normal" "Increase valve pressure by 0.4" "No signs of result activity", reports start flooding in the room by my colleagues. The whirring sound of colossal amount of energy hitting at each other in a controlled setting does sound nice. "Dr Avldis shall we conclude" I asked after not seeing any progress like usual "No, keep going" he replied with a steadfast tone 'Well this is surprising' I thought as to this unusual command. Usually before even our suggestion Dr Avldis is the one who orders the experiment to stop but this time he actually is pushing it more, "Hey don't you think the chief looks like he is about to collapse any second" Ann whispered to me. I looked over at him studying his features and yes Ann was right Dr Avldis does look like he is about to pass out "Dr Avldis are you alright?" I asked to him "Don't mind me, am fine here" he replied without even facing us but glued to the glass looking at the beam of red light in the bottom almost as if he was hipnotised. I looked over to Ann who was also looking at me with a confused look "Lets just get this over with" I whispered to her sighing, I looked at my system screen and it showed that the reactors are almost out of fuel "Dr Avldis the fuel in the tanks are almost empty.. shall we stop?" I asked and prepared for shutdown and waited for his response. He stayed silent without any response, his gaze focused only at what was happening below, others in the room was also giving away a confused expression looking at each other. "Dr Avldis?" I called out again but there was no response "Dr Avldis" I called out louder "WHAT IS IT?" he shouted back at me turning, his face looking pale eyes almost yellow, his eyes glaring at me making me tremble.
"Sasha" Eugeo said through my earpiece which instantly calmed me down, "Dr Avldis our reactors doesn't have enough fuel to continue this, we need to shut down" I said loud, calm and strong at his face. He didn't lashed out like before "No, we will continue this" this wasn't a response I was expecting "But si-" "Pull all backup generators into main power and we will continue the experiment" he announced which caught me and others in the room off guard. "Sasha can you hear me? What is happening? Why aren't we stopping?" Eugeo asked "It's nothing, we are continuing the experiment for some more time" I said and sat on my chair and began to set up backup power into the main lines. The beam of energy clashing with each other grew brighter turning from the hue red to white "The shifters can't handle this much load" "Temperature rising within the cables" "Relays are overheating" warning sounds echoed throughout the room. "Sasha the shifters will burn out, we need to stop" Eugeo spoke again "I know but someone here doesn't want it to stop" "What does that mean?" "Dr Avldis asked us to put backup power into main lines" "That shouldn't be done in one go, we should have cooled down the relays first before doing-" his voice cut off as the white glow began to grow more brighter uncontrollably. The whole room started to shake "Chief we need to stop" "It's too risky now" everyone started to urge the man who was in charge but he didn't seemed to listen "Am shutting down" I said in a rage and worked to shut down the generators and reactors "What do you think you are doing?" Dr Avldis shouted at me asking "Am shutting down this experiment you are clearly out of your mind risking everyone else's life over something like this" I shouted back. "Sasha, you need to stop this" Eugeo urged over the earpiece "Am not risking anyone's life just wait for a bit more" Dr Avldis argued "You say that yet you are clearly skipping over safety precautions" I continued and locked out the back up power away from main power "Noooo" he cried out running towards the glass barrier. For some reason the white glow did not stopped instead it grew more and more almost blinding everyone "Check what is happening" I urged others "Eugeo check the ground breakers" "I am already there and it's a mess the heat must have melted it" he replied. "Mrs Sasha systems are showing backup generators as still operational" "That's impossible I just shut them down" "Yes Mam but the logs are showing that it just got turned back on" "Then turn it off again" "We are trying but it's not working" I turned to my desk to try and stop it but I couldn't access anything either "You fools, I am the chief here" Dr Avldis spoke as he began to turn "I just took away your operational access, now you can't stop the descent of Mother Night"
