I could almost feel the shock ripple through her. She opened her mouth, probably to protest, to throw some sarcastic comment my way, but I wasn't having any of it. Before she could make a fuss, I leaned in closer, speaking the word just barely above a whisper.
"Omega."
It was all I had to say. The word hung in the air, thick with its weight. One word. Just one, and it silenced her instantly. The fear in her eyes—flickering, like she didn't want to show it, but couldn't hide it either—was almost enough to make me laugh. The way she immediately shut up, the fire that had been burning in her so strongly just seconds ago, extinguished with one simple whisper. It was a beautiful thing to watch, her anger deflated, her spirit bending without her even realizing it.
She glared at me, and I could see the rage simmering behind her eyes. But she didn't speak. She didn't dare.
I stood there for a moment, savoring the silence.
