Chapter 5 - Reaching an agreement

She stood up and walked straight out of the conference room.

Moments later, the room became noisy again as groups of people went out to smoke.

Xu Jingyi couldn't stand the smell of smoke, and Lin Ruofeng doted on her, so smoking was prohibited throughout the entire building.

She stood up and walked straight out of the conference room.

Moments later, the room became noisy again as groups of people went out to smoke.

Xu Jingyi couldn't stand the smell of smoke, and Lin Ruofeng doted on her, so smoking was prohibited throughout the entire building.

She walked into her office, and the door was immediately pushed open by Lin Ruoyan. Without an invitation, Lin Ruoyan sat down firmly opposite her at the desk.

Xu Jingyi knew she would come, so she wasn't overly surprised.

"Sister-in-law," Lin Ruoyan addressed her with a cold face, "I'll cut straight to the chase.

What are your thoughts?"

The Lin Corporation had a wide range of industries. Besides some above-board businesses, there were also some gray-area ones.

Before Lin Ruofeng's accident, Xu Jingyi had been in charge of many matters he couldn't deal with directly.

According to Xu Jingyi's previous plan, she would take over the overall management of the entire corporation after Lin Ruofeng's death, regardless of the industry.

She and Lin Ruofeng had built everything together; there was no way she would hand it over to someone else.

Those people who said that a woman didn't understand management were simply talking nonsense.

It was just because the matters she handled in secret were inconvenient to be associated with the Lin Corporation, so on the surface, she seemed to have no involvement in the operation of the corporation.

Lin Ruoyan's return was slow, so she hadn't anticipated the other party's attitude, and even less so the attitude of the board of directors.

Her shares weren't that different from Lin Ruoyan's. Legally speaking, she would inherit all of Lin Ruofeng's shares, giving her an absolute advantage in terms of ownership.

The board's attitude was crucial for future management. Her shares weren't enough to give her complete control.

It seemed that half the board supported her, but it was difficult to discern their true intentions.

Furthermore, if she immediately took control of Lin Corporation after Lin Ruofeng's death, it might cause some people to suspect foul play and reopen the investigation.

That was also the purpose of her pausing the meeting.

"What does Ruoyan think?"

The indoor temperature was comfortable. Xu Jingyi, having escaped the space full of men, removed her coat upon entering and hung it aside, now only wearing a long dress.

She had always pursued a sexy style, and today was no exception.

She wore heavy makeup to conceal her fatigue, paired with bright clothing.

She now leaned lazily in the wide office chair, a pleasant sight.

Lin Ruoyan's expression remained unchanged, and she didn't beat around the bush. "Sister-in-law should be clear.

We are the only family here.

We don't know what those outsiders are thinking, so we should be united against them now."

Xu Jingyi curved her lips, asking with interest, "Oh?"

"Sister-in-law is a smart person; you should know what I'm talking about, no need to play dumb with me."

Lin Ruoyan moved closer.

"As long as the two of us can reach an agreement, those people outside naturally won't have anything to say."

"Those people outside, every single one of them, whether they support me or support you, either think Sister-in-law doesn't understand anything, or they think I'm young and easily deceived."

Xu Jingyi didn't speak, continuing to watch her.

She had a new understanding of her sister-in-law, who wasn't as simple as she had thought.

"I haven't heard about Brother's previous businesses, but I'm confident I can quickly get the hang of it."

She paused. "Sister-in-law can hold all of Brother's shares; I won't take a single one, but I want to be the highest decision-maker of Lin Corporation."

Lin Ruoyan made a significant concession because she could only participate in the operation of Lin Corporation to come into contact with people who had connections with her brother, and only then could she find out the final truth.

She didn't mind taking a loss.

"You mean…let me be a figurehead?" Xu Jingyi spoke slowly, not showing whether she was satisfied with the conditions Lin Ruoyan offered.

"Sister-in-law only needs to rest assured and receive the dividends you deserve, no need to worry about anything extra."

She didn't answer directly, but she indirectly admitted it.

Xu Jingyi continued to ask, "Why should I trust you? How can you guarantee you won't stab me in the back? Besides, I might not be any worse than you at managing things directly."

"Moreover, everyone knows that based on shareholding, I'm the most qualified person to be in this position."

This question wouldn't have an answer until a conclusion was reached.

Lin Ruoyan thought for a moment, "We can do as you and my brother did, and divide the industries between us. That would also be safer."

"You should know very well that this is the best solution for both of us."

"Oh? Is that so?" Xu Jingyi smoothed her long hair. "Then, will Ruoyan willingly give me all of Ruofeng's shares?"

Lin Ruoyan was silent for a moment. "Those shares should have always been yours. I just want to protect everything my brother worked so hard to achieve."

"And?"

"What?"

"What else do you want?"

Lin Ruoyan's hand under the table was clenched tightly, but her face remained calm. "I don't want anything else. Sister-in-law, just agree to it."

Xu Jingyi didn't immediately agree. She thought for a moment before saying, "I have one last request. If you agree, I'll approve your plan."

"What request?" Lin Ruoyan's brow furrowed slightly. She had already made many concessions, yet the other party was still pushing for more.

"I want to live in the Main Residence with you. You can't move out."

Lin Ruoyan's brow furrowed even tighter, her mind working through a few turns, understanding the other party's intentions.

After Lin Ruofeng's accident, not only the Lin Corporation was unsettled, but also those other businesses.

Xu Jingyi was managing those, but many people had built them up together back then, and it was hard to say whether they respected Xu Jingyi more or Lin Ruofeng more.

Those people valued loyalty more.
