Chapter 3 - Chapter 2 - Surrounded

From the very beginning Hecate was worried about this trip but Raven is very stubborn and she knew that Raven would go with or without her and so she followed her despite her apprehensions. Once Hecate was bitten she knew that since they were so far from the city and had no one to help them the likelihood of her surviving this was not high. Although Hecate was in great pain she tried to calm Raven down until Hecate saw something that caused her face to turn white with terror. Coming towards them from almost every direction were more green skinned poison snakes and they numbered a hundred at a minimum. "Raven quit fusing over the bite and grab your swords." "What, why" she turned around and saw all the snakes and showed great anger. Spewing bloodlust from all over her body Raven picked up her sabers and prepared to fight. "Don't worry Hecate I'll protect you no matter what, I promise." Hecate smiled apprehensibly knowing that Raven wouldn't be able to keep that promise no matter how much she may want to.

Believing that there was no hope for her Hecate decided to use all the magic power she had left to make sure Raven got out alive. She believed that if they played their cards right they would be able to punch a hole in their lines and Raven could escape. "Raven the snakes are fewer on the right side I'll disrupt their lines with magic and then you run." "No I won't leave you here." "I'm already dead! Without an antidote it's only a matter of time, leave me behind." Raven had tears in her eyes at the mere thought of losing her sister "No I can't, I won't, we make it out together or not all." Raven turned to Hecate with a look of both determination and defiance. Hecate sighed partially thankful for not being left behind despite the hopelessness of the situation "You always were the stubborn one." After this Raven turned to face the snakes once again then charged forward using physical enhancement swinging her sabers with perfect accuracy she killed yet another rank 2 instantly and jumped back. Since she wouldn't leave Hecate decided to concentrate mostly on defense. After fighting for almost ten minutes they had killed at least twenty more Green Skinned Poison Snakes but Hecate was almost out mana meaning she won't be able to cast any more spells and Raven had multiple snake bites. Preparing to give a last ditch effort in hopes of breaking the snakes lines and running away all of the sudden in the back of the pack appeared a giant Diamond Skinned Poison Snake, the evolved form of Green Skinned Poison Snake, it was the leader of this group and the very monster they had hoped to avoid. "We're finished." Hecate was about to collapse in exhaustion, pain, and despair when all of the sudden the head of the diamond skinned poison snake caught fire. The girls were shocked and didn't know how to react when yet another snake jumped at Raven while she was preoccupied with the sight of the burning snake Hecate screamed trying to warn her and used magic shield in hopes of stopping it. Unfortunately because of her low mana reserves she didn't stop the snake in time, the world almost seemed to go still only for multiple throwing knives to appear taking out the snake mid flight. Raven was pale, her hands were trembling, and she had trouble standing up straight, it was clear she was at her limit. However after the Diamond Skinned Poison Snake caught fire the Green Skinned Poison Snakes went into disarray. "We won't get a better opportunity than this" Hecate grabbed Raven and they staggered away from the fleeing snakes as fast as they could. As soon as they were a decent distance from the snakes Hecate passed out and Raven had to half carry half drag her along. "Come on don't stop now we have chance let's not... waste… it…" She wasn't exactly one to talk since she was on the verge collapse as well. As she was stumbling along she felt a sharp pain at the back of her neck and fell to the ground unconscious. Her last thoughts were about how she should have listened to Hecate and not been so reckless.

Next thing Hecate knew she was in a bed in an unknown place. She turned her head to see a young man around their age wearing a mask nearby he carried three swords one on each hip and the third on his back over his left shoulder. He turned his head and realized Hecate had awakened. He walked up to Hecate and said "It's ok, you're safe here. All you need to do right now is get some rest. I'll have some soup ready for you when you both wake up again." Although he wore a mask something told Hecate that she could trust this man and so she closed her eyes and let the weariness of recent events pull her into a deep sleep.
