Chapter 4 - Chapter 3 - The Boy in the Mountains

Today was like most days, I got up in the early morning and got ready to go hunting. Today I was especially cheery for I had just passed an exam at the adventures guild in Lockville making me a D class adventurer. Normally I would hunt with a bow and arrow but I decided to practice with throwing knives today so I grabbed my weapons and numerous knives and headed out. I quickly and lightly ran through the forest making sure not to make a sound in order to hunt something tasty. My name is Ryner and I live in one of the multiple makeshift homes my master and I built, all of which are in the Green death mountains. Some are caves, some are houses, some are up on cliffs but staying in one of these places for an extended period of time can be a little dangerous so I must always move to a different place every couple weeks. Now I know this sounds like an awfully dangerous place considering the name but I have lived in these mountains my whole life and I know them like the back of my hand. Also my master has taught me how to fight with practically every weapon out there and I have learned some magic and alchemy as well but that is mainly from books for it is not my masters specialty. As I was quietly hunting I finally found tracks of Lightning Horned Rabbits. They are are about three times the size of normal rabbits and their speed and agility is incredible which is why they can survive in such a dangerous environment and it makes them quite difficult to hunt but man do they taste good. I followed the tracks until I saw my breakfast, I silently got into position threw my knife and nailed my target right in the neck killing the little rabbit before it even knew what happened. As I was grabbing the carcass of the bunny I heard a loud girly scream not too far away. When I heard the scream I grabbed my things and sighed "Seems like a couple of idiots wandered into the depths of the mountains. Might as well see what's going on." Putting the rabbit in my spacial bag I took off in the direction of the scream.

Running through the forest jumping from one tree to the next I headed in the direction of the scream. I wasn't worried about the danger for I am immensely well armed. I have two magic swords, one on my each hip, a third two handed sword over my left shoulder., six round glass balls on the belt across my chest, my spacial bag tied tightly to my belt, an enchanted whip wrapped around my right arm hidden under my clothes, two long knives on the sides of my lower legs, dozens of throwing knives and a few other items for various purposes hidden all across my body. Finally landing on the branch of very tall tree I look down to see two young girls injured and terrified, they were completely surrounded by a multitude of Green Skinned Poison Snakes. "Did they seriously wonder into a Green Skinned Poison Snake nest with such pathetic skills? Judging from their current injuries if they fight hard they might last another minute, maybe two." At first I didn't plan to do anything, at least that was until I saw the monster in command hidden near the back of all the snakes. This particular monster was the king of this part of the mountain, the rank 5 Diamond Skinned Poison Snake. I've had a few confrontations with this over grown annoyance, if its scales weren't so difficult to penetrate I would have killed it long ago. "Well since you're here I happen to have something new I want to try out, thanks in advance for becoming my test subject." Using my left hand to draw the sword on my right hip and grabbing one of the glass balls across my chest with my right hand I jumped out of the tree heading straight for the king of snakes.

Throwing the glass ball straight at the snake while it was distracted, it broke on its nose. In the ball was a very stinky very flammable liquid. Snakes have a very sharp sense of smell to make up for their poor eyesight so the liquid caused it to be very agitated. While the snake was confused over the smell I landed on the ground and cast a spell "Flame bullet" hitting the snake in the face causing the liquid to catch fire making the smell even worse which bothered the surrounding Green Skinned Poison Snakes. The Diamond Skinned Poison Snake tried again and again to put the flame out and after multiple failures it decided to head for the swamp that was not far from here in hopes of extinguishing the flames. I drew my second sword and was about to give chase when I heard yet another scream from one of the two girls. Although I really wanted to fight the Diamond Skinned Poison Snake master always said that protecting the defenseless was his duty as a man. Stabbing my second sword into the ground I poured mana into my spacial bag and pulled out a white mask with a flame design on it. This mask had a voice changing magic stone in it which I used to hide my identity, putting it on I ran to the girls side killing every Green Skinned Poison Snake within the reach of my swords along the way. Killing these low level snakes was no different than breathing to me which was why I found this little rescue so boring. At the age of 16 I am already a rank 3 mage and a rank 5 warrior. Extremely close to becoming a rank 6 warrior, when comes to the use of weapons most adults couldn't hope to match me. Since I had a master to teach me all forms of close combat I just needed an instructor in the field of magic. As the Diamond Skinned Poison Snake fled the smell it was emanating spread all over the place. This smell agitated the remaining Green Skinned Poison Snakes and without their commander they went into disarray. I charged into their ranks swiftly cutting every single one within reach in half. The Green Skinned Poison Snakes may not be the brightest of monsters but even they can realize when they are greatly outmatched. Out of fear they decided to escape every which way ignoring the girls altogether. I never liked snakes so I started to hunt them down and forgot about the girls entirely but unfortunately for me these girls weren't completely stupid. They used the chaos I had created and tried to escape back the way they came without giving me a second look, how rude.

At one point I turned in the direction where the girls once were and realized that they had run away. "Oops I was supposed to help them wasn't I" Sighing I ignored the remaining snakes that had yet to escape me and quickly followed the girls knowing full well that if they were on their own sooner or later they would die a gruesome death, probably sooner. Once I found them I silently followed them while traveling in the trees so as not to alert them. I made sure to quietly kill the surrounding monsters protecting the girls like a guardian angel. "Those idiots Lockville city is East not North they're going the wrong way." Rolling my eyes I watched these inexperienced fools travel in the wrong direction. Soon after their ordeal the girls began to stumble to the ground from exhaustion and started to succumb to the poison that was infecting their bodies. One of them had already passed out so I jumped down from the trees and silently gave the second girl a slight neck chop knocking her out before picking them both up and whisking them away. "Maybe I should take them back to Lockville." However after looking at them I realized the poison had spread quite far and decided that it would be better to take them to my home for it was much closer and the poison needed to be treated quickly. So carrying them on my shoulders I headed home with two careless annoyances in tow.

I quickly arrived in front of my current home sweet home which was more of a cave if anything and headed in ignoring everything else since these girls needed my full attention.
