Chapter 29 - Episode 29

INT. FREIGHT NIGHT FAIRGROUNDS - NIGHT. OCTOBER 31, 2025, 11:11 P.M.

Evan struggled to his feet, using his sleeve to wipe the black blood off of his face as he glared at the group. His face lips downward, his fist clenched, "You guys are like fucking roaches, just die already!"

"If you think you can beat us then attack, bitch!" Gabriel replied, giving Evan the middle finger.

Nadia shared a look with Blake worried, "Should we do something to stop him?" She asked, Blake just shrugged, not really having a reply, his face focusing back on Evan. Nadia's shoulders slumped in her worry about Gabriel.

Evan roared, charging forward, Gabriel's creation meeting the charge with a powerful barrier. Evan crashed through it, his moment not stopping as he threw a punch at Gabriel's head. Gabriel dodged to the side of the punch, throwing two quick jabs in quickly to Evan's left side. Evan regained his footing quickly after the blows. He tried to do a front push kick that Gabriel blocked. Before Evan could lower his leg, Nadia jumped off Gabriel's back, hitting Evan in the face with a superman punch before he could react. Evan's nose gushed out blood. His nose was broken because of the sudden attack. His leg free from Gabriel's grasp, he stumbled, his hands cupping the area around his nose.

Gabriel didn't let Evan rest, following up with a kick to the back of the knee, snapping the bone. "Shit!" Evan screamed, the bone sticking out his kneecap. Ignoring the screaming, Gabriel moved, allowing Blake's golden shield to fly through, smacking Evan in the face. Evan recoiled, falling backwards onto the ground. Landing with a loud splash, blood kicked up in the air.

Gabriel quickly caught the shield in his hand, the shield automatically clinging to the back itself. Evan tried to sit up, but Gabriel whacked him in the face, making him lay back on the ground. Gabriel got on top of Evan and kept punching him in the face. The smell of burning flesh potent in the air as Gabriel kept hitting the shield. "I'm tired of this fucking case, I'm tired of you fucking assholes just die already!", he screamed, his voice echoing around the clearing as he kept punching him in the face. "Die! Die! Die!"

"Enough, Rook, he's had enough!"Blake demanded, snapping his fingers dissolving the shield from around Gabriel's hand. The shield now appears on Blake's right hand.

Gabriel's aura grew a fierce red; his glare made Blake pause in fear as he took an unconscious step back. Gabriel slowly stood up, his eyes ‌never leaving Blake's as he glared at him. "You said he's had enough he would kill us if we didn't win, and you think he's had enough. Gabriel raised his hand before bringing it down. The creation that was floating behind him flew over, standing above Evan. When Gabriel lowered his hand, the creation swung, hitting Evan in the face. "Do you think I need your shield? I can make one even better than yours, you old piece of shit."

Blake's heart pounded, sweat dripping down his brow as he looked at Gabriel's anger. He hasn't ever seen him like this. Even angry Gabriel would usually walk away, coming back later to have a conversation. "Rook, we still need to ask him questions", Blake pleaded, his tone becoming sincere.

Gabriel cocked his head to the side, "Fuck your questions, I wouldn't even been in this damn mess if you weren't a corrupt piece of shit!", he replied, raising his hand lowering quickly to have the creation hit Evan again.

Blake got into a stance, his jaw clenched as he realized what he had to do. Gabriel, sensing the attention, snapped his fingers, bringing the creation to float behind once again. "I've been wanting to kick your ass, so hit me, you fucking pig. I dare you to fucking hit me," he goaded, stepping closer to Blake. Blake gulped, not wanting to start a fight with him if he didn't have to.

"STOP!" screamed Nadia ran, grabbing Gabriel from behind, his red aura burning his clothes, but she held on. "Calm down, Gabs, your power is running out of control. You need to control it!" The sound of sizzling filled the air as she held on tightly to Gabriel.

Blake looked on in wonder but kept his shield in hand in case Gabriel went on another rampage, but so far he stood just looking at the ground. The red around goes from red to pink back to red all in a split second. Gabriel kept breathing in and out slowly, closing his eyes as he tried to get his anger under control. The anger from failing, from feeling weak, mixed with being thrown around last week ate at him. It doesn't help that he could feel the hatred and fear from everyone who was running away. He took all of that, and it made him stronger in return, he lost control. "I'm better than this!", he thought to himself. Letting go of his fist as his aura went to a light red before landing on white. The feeling of bloodlust that was saturating the air dissipated, Gabriel going back into his more relaxed form.

Nadia took a step back, the jacket she had on burnt, the front of her stomach red from hugging Gabriel. "Are you back to normal, Gabs?". She asked weary her pained expression showing as she did her best not to move.

Gabriel didn't answer with his eyes, he tilted his head to the sky. In his mind, he can see the woman in white from when he was in the hospital, tears running down her face as she reached a hand out towards him. "I'm proud of you, my son", she whispered before fading away in a bright light. Gabriel soon felt water dripping down his face. When he opened his eyes, the slow drizzle of the rain washed the destroyed fairgrounds.

"Aye, Rook, are you still with us?", Blake asked, stepping closer towards Gabriel.

Gabriel lowered his head, a small on his face."Yeah, yeah I'm feeling better", he replied.

"WOOO!", Shouted Nadia, jumping on his back, rubbing her cheek on his cheek in a way similar to a cat. "I thought you were going to stay moody on us like it was cool with you doing all the punches. It was like a bam, and you were glowing red!"

Gabriel let out a small sigh. "I'm glad you liked me trying to help in the fight, though I feel I just got in the way."

Blake stepped forward and patted Gabriel on the right shoulder. "Trust me, you helped us out a great deal, " he reassured before pausing and looking at the floating being behind Gabriel. "You and whatever that thing helped us."

Gabriel cocked his head to the side, puzzled, until he looked over his shoulder past Nadia, and remembered the thing he created. "Right, I want something that could instantly help with shields, and being strong on attack. Something that'd help without me having to give complete commands."

"Whelp, I think it's absolutely!"Nadia exclaimed, rubbing her check on Gabriel's again, before suddenly leaning back. "You should totally give it a name!"

"Ugh, can you stop with all the ‌sappy bullshit alrighty, it's making me puke over here!", Evan's voice weakly stated.

Blake just shook his head in disappointed, "This guy just doesn't know when to die"

Gabriel just shrugged, turning around to face the fallen body, he snapped his fingers. His creation looked at Gabriel, nodded then floated over towards Evan's downed body. "What the hell, put me down!"Evan shrieked, his coming out pained. The creation ignored all protests as it grabbed Evan from under his armpits, easily lifting the now defeated demon. Once Evan was clenched, the creation flew him to where Gabriel was standing, slightly dragging Evan's legs against the ground.

"Ya know, Rook, did I ever tell you how jealous I am of your abilities, because I am," Blake said as he glanced up at Evan floating in front of them.

Gabriel shrugged, "truthfully it has more downsides I've been finding than ups so far."

Blake shook in annoyance. "People who have something always want to complain.", he muttered, though Gabriel could overhear it.

Nadia hummed happily as she sat on Gabriel's back, ignoring everything going on as the swing lightly put her chin on Gabriel's shoulder. Gabriel's aura was slightly pink, but he ignored grabbing Nadia underneath her legs to make sure she didn't fall backwards off his back. Gabriel looked over Evan, grimacing at the amount of damage shown on his face. "I can't believe I lost control and did this much damage to him", He thought to himself. His aura turned a light blue as he felt resentment about what he did. Even though most of the damage was self-defense, he went overboard with attacking.

"Just get it over you bastard I'm dying anyway.", Evan growled, his one good aye staring directly at Gabriel.

Nadia perked up her head, "Then tell us who your leader is, consider a way of clearing your consciousness of everything evil you've done."

Evan's eyes glared before softening as he looked at the trio. "I never thought that would happen to me," he admitted, his head slightly dropping as black blood dripped to the ground, "Done in by a group of humans."

"No, no, no, come on!"Blake shouted, rushing towards Evan, he slapped his cheeks, doing his best to keep him awake. "Tell me who the leader is."

Evan whispered a name, but Blake couldn't understand it. Leaning in, Evan said the name low one more time. "Stolas", he whispered before his breathing preeminently stopped. Blake didn't have a chance to ponder the name as Evan's body burst into flames, ashes cluttered to ground mixing in with the rain and blood on the ground.

"So were you able to at least get the name?", Nadia inquired.

Blake nodded his head slowly, still confused about the name. "Yeah, I did, though I've heard the name before, and I seriously thought it was connected to Abel."

Gabriel looked at Blake in pity. "Maybe Mark was wrong about who has been attacking you?"

"Maybe", Blake offered before going quiet. The trio stood there in silence as the police could be heard in the distance,

Gabriel couldn't help but wonder how many more secrets he will have to turn over before the case officially ends. Just like hydras, when one mystery is solved, it's like two more have opened. He just sighed to himself as he began to make his way towards the gate, Nadia seemingly asleep by the sounds of her breathing on his back. The creation ‌ silently followed behind, floating slightly off the ground. Blake followed up the rear, keeping his eyes peeled out in case anything else decided to attack.
