Chapter 2 - Chapter 1

"Rosaline!" My mothers voice pierces through the air, making me wince. Looking outside the moon is just setting. How the hell does Mother always wake me up so early? I think, sliding out of the bed carefully and tucking the blanket back over the kids, making sure not to wake them. Sighing I pull a hooded shawl over my head and walk into the kitchen. Mother is standing there with her arms crossed, frowning at me.

"Yes Mother? What do you need?" I ask as politely as possible while resisting the urge to flip her off.

"Go to the market. I need you to make me a pie for this weeks town meeting. And your Father wants more alcohol." She demands. I blink in shock. This isn't the first time she's made me go to the market, but it's the first time she's made me go so early.

"Now?! While it's still dark?" I ask incredulously. Immediately regretting it as Mother lands a sharp slap across my cheek, snapping my head to the side and reddening my cheek. Biting my lip I nod. "Yes Mother. Apologies for talking back." Grabbing the basket I walk out the door and start down the long road to town. Rubbing my arms I frown. It's quite cold out this morning. I think to myself, an odd premonition growing in my mind the closer I get to town that something big is going to happen, something that's going to change the whole course of my life.
