Kelsey didn't notice anything wrong in his tone, and she desperately didn't want him to notice the situation around her, so she hung up the phone in a hurry.
The moment she put the phone down, a warm, solid embrace pressed against her from behind.
Rhett had been working on documents in the living room just seconds ago. At some point, he had stood up and come behind her, his hands snaking around her waist. "Who were you talking to?" he murmured.
The next second, his deep voice was right at her ear.
Kelsey adjusted her breathing, trying to sound normal. "It was Dexter."
"Really?" Rhett's eyes showed little change, but the hand on her waist began a slow, deliberate rub. "I thought it was Norman."
Kelsey closed her eyes for a brief second, then showed him her phone screen. "You can check it."
Rhett didn't refuse. He took her phone, opened the call history, and saw that it was, in fact, Dexter. He handed the phone back to her without a word.
