Rhett didn't know what Kelsey was thinking, but seeing her standing in this house again… the emptiness in his chest seemed to fill, just a little.
He took a step forward and suddenly wrapped his arms around her from behind, resting his chin on the curve of her neck.
Her scent surrounded him. He had never paid it much mind before, but now, after their divorce, it seemed to hit him deeper.
He felt Kelsey's whole body go rigid, but he didn't rush to do anything else.
With his strong arms locked around her waist, he murmured the question into her ear, "What perfume are you wearing?"
Kelsey could feel his warm breath ghosting over her skin. She trembled slightly, her eyes squeezed shut.
That warmth lingered on her, refusing to leave.
She took a deep breath, trying to sound detached. "I'm not wearing any perfume."
"Then what is this scent?" Rhett opened his eyes, pinched her chin, turned her head, and captured her lips in a kiss.
Kelsey didn't react at all.
