Rhett's end of the line was dead silent, which made all the background noise from Kelsey's side sound even louder.
The man sat on the sofa, the black leather cool and devoid of any warmth.
The air around him was cold. "Where are you right now?" he asked, his voice flat.
Kelsey told him the truth. There was only silence on the other end. Rhett didn't say a word.
Kelsey tentatively asked, "Can I come back a little later?"
Rhett glanced at the clock. "How much later?"
Kelsey pressed her lips together and looked toward the busy set. It was pure chaos over there, people rushing everywhere.
Even in her quiet corner, crew members kept passing by, asking her to move.
"I'm not sure how much longer it will take," she said. "When it's over here, I'll have the driver come get me."
Rhett stayed silent. The quiet made Kelsey's stomach twist with unease.
She could never fully figure out his temper. She was always afraid that if he got upset, he would do something drastic.
