"Admit it.." Kurv repeated, getting on his nerves.
" How do I get rid of her," Elr's eyebrows twitched, his patience like a thin thread about to snap.
Kurv was being impossibly annoying, especially now that she was in his car and refusing to get out.
"I told you I'm fast,, you did underestimate me after all," she said sharply, as if she knew what Elr was about to ask her.
'OMieGosh that's so cutie.. '
'Te-he, I told you he didn't know'
Elr muted the speaker. Tired of Kurv's antics and his siblings' constant teasing.
"God, one at a time. I can't handle them all at once."
He turned to Kurv with the coldest gaze ever.
"Get. Out."
~~~~~~
Intrusion
The sky was dead up above, no stars.. not even the full shape of the moon lay visible.
Wyatt stood there, up at the terrace, a cup of coffee in his hand. A pained sigh escaped his perfectly curved lips as the cold wind brushed past his hair.
Something about tonight made the terrace grounds irresistible today.
For years, it had always been the same..
Whenever he returned to that mansion, only his shadows were his company. Leon would travel out of town in a week, Kath is a clubber so her presence isn't guaranteed.
He took another sip.
And Elrin? He just embarks on unimportant business trips like a stray fly.
Even his younger sister was out of the country for her studies. They'd all drifted apart. Fate really is such a thing.
"I won't go back there this year. There's no point."
" Hey!"
Wyatt looked in the direction of where the voice came from. "Emily?" He sighed.
"What are you doing out here in the cold?" His little princess asked him.
He squatted down to face her, with a smile.
"Daddy needs to think. It's been a long day."
Emily frowned, " But why do you work?"
The question hit him like a stray bullet.
'Work? '
That's what everyone does for survival.. but why bother oneself? They're rich.. his family.. all of them..
'So why bother? '
He rubbed Emily's hair.
"Great question, dearie. Go on inside, you don't want to catch a cold."
" Pinky promise tell me bedtime stories before morn," she held up her pinky finger to Wyatt's face.
"Promise." He crossed her finger with his, a forced smile.
Emily giggled and went back inside. Closing the door swiftly behind her.
Wyatt stood up with a blink and looked up at the enigmatic sky like it held a different answer to his question.
"Why do we still-- work?"
Was it the fear of losing possessions or the possibility to pursue the right passion which one drifted from in the cause of achieving wealth?
~~~~~~
Kurv blinked, twice.
Was he really telling her to 'get out' and with the meanest face ever?
"Pssht. To think you were 'The Gentleman', " she pouted, having nothing else to say.
Elr's eyes shrinked, his pride dropping. No one has ever dissed him like that. Tch.
"What do you mean by that?"
"Hmph," tilting her head to avoid his gaze and to pin her point. "Faking to be nice, acting unbothered.. I see right through you like a mirror. Thanks, anyway for the money."
Her eyes darted towards his. "And. No. I won't be getting down."
"What is wrong with you??"
"Eight blocks down the next street."
"..."
Kurv turned grey. Was Elr always this dumb?
"Huh?" He asked, still confused, trying to clarify what she'd just blurted.
"St.Austin's street, eight blocks into it. That's my apartment."
Elr. Snapped.
"Do I look like a driver to you?! "
"Well, you're in the front seat, holding a steering.. so yeah."
" You're unbelievable. Breaking into people's cars, ordering them around.." he started the car again.
" You're the one who credited my account."
" Really? That's your defence?" He facepalmed, " I swear, I'm calling a restraint order on you."
'To think I was ever interested in her in the first place, she's worse than Kath and Albert combined'
***
"Aren't we there yet?" I asked him.
No response.
He looked like he would drive straight into a wall with all that nerve bulging up.
I hoped I wasn't being too mean, I only wanted a free ride and he was all I could think of.
"Don't act so grumpy, Mr... Stop the car. I ordered, like I'm the one who owned it."
Not a word came from him. Then after a few seconds, he hit the brake, like he was desperate for me to come out.
And I did.
The buildings around me didn't look familiar AT ALL.
"Hey!"
I forced open the front door and pounced in, boring my eyes into his.
"We've been driving in circles, you dimwit!"
" The last time I checked, this is MY CAR! And I decide where it goes and where it doesn't. I am NOT driving it into those wretched portholes down that street."
Elr sighed, his voice calmed now. "Go call yourself a taxi."
I don't know if we were playing snap now, because I too was also fuming. How dare he insult the street where I live in.
"Listen here," I grabbed him by the collar, tightening my grip. "If you don't drive me back to where I ordered you to, then I'm calling the police on your freaking butt!"
The surprise look on his face was PRICELESS. Hmph and I wasn't going easy on him.
Right then, we were this close and the scent of his musk was now pretty much clearer.
I can't believe it was him all along.
