Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: Abandoning Vegeta?

As Gran, Beerus, and Shin—the Kai of the current era—vanished, the planet's chaotic magnetic field slowly began to stabilize.

The skies no longer thundered, and the ground ceased its trembling.

Only Raditz, Nappa, and the fallen Vegeta remained.

Raditz stared blankly at the quarter of a senzu bean in his hand for a while before his thoughts returned to him.

"Two choices, huh?"

A twisted smile crept up the corners of his lips, his small eyes darkening with bitterness.

"Hahaha…"

"After all these years, how has Vegeta treated me? And now you're telling me to save him?"

"No need to think twice—of course I'll keep this bean for myself! Why waste it on that damned Vegeta? Hahaha!"

Raditz's face twisted with madness.

Just as Gran predicted, with how Vegeta had always treated Raditz—how many times he'd thought of abandoning him—there was no way Raditz would save him now.

Besides, Saiyans were cold-blooded by nature. A miraculous healing item like the senzu bean? There's no way he'd waste it on someone else!

"Tch! Let him rot here, Nappa. Let's go—before the Ginyu Force lands!"

Raditz took to the air, heading toward where their ship was buried.

But

Behind him came Nappa's cold, greedy voice.

"Wait."

"You're right not to save Vegeta… but since you've chosen not to, that senzu bean in your hand is wasted on you. Hand it over, Raditz. Something like that isn't meant for trash like you."

Raditz's pupils contracted. He clenched his fist tighter around the bean.

Such was the nature of Saiyans—heartless and cruel. Without overwhelming power to suppress them, even fathers and sons would turn on each other over self-interest.

Let alone comrades like Raditz and Nappa.

A senzu bean—an item that could bring one back from the brink of death—how could Nappa possibly let that slip away, especially to someone whose power level was only 600?

"What do you mean, Nappa?!" Raditz growled. "Gran gave me the choice! Since I chose to keep it, this bean is mine!"

Nappa cracked his neck, stretching his arms with a wicked grin.

"Heh, you really think trash like you deserves to hold something that powerful?"

"If I were you, I'd hand it over willingly—otherwise, you can stay here and die with Vegeta!"

"You…"

Raditz's chest heaved, his teeth grinding in rage.

"Didn't you hear what Gran said just now? He's a god now! He gave me the choice—you dare defy that?!"

Nappa froze for a moment, recalling Gran's divine companions and their overwhelming presence.

But before he could speak

BOOM!

A thunderous roar shook the skies. The Ginyu Force's ship was descending fast!

"Damn it—they're landing! If we don't move now, we're dead!"

Raditz winced in frustration. Gritting his teeth, he tore the remaining bean in half and hurled one piece toward Nappa.

"Take it! I'm giving this to you—it's not breaking the god's command! Now move, before it's too late!"

"Hahaha, you finally learned your place!"

Nappa snatched the fragment, his greed quickly fading into satisfaction.

Neither dared to covet the rest—Gran's command was not something to trifle with.

Without another word, they turned and left Vegeta behind, flying toward the ship's location.

But

BOOM!

The roar of engines grew louder. The Ginyu Force's ship was nearly on the ground.

"Damn it! We're out of time!"

They stopped mid-flight, realizing they'd never make it to the far side of the planet where their ship was hidden.

"Arghhh!!!" Nappa shouted, losing his composure. "It's the Ginyu Force! If they land, we're finished!"

"Finished? That's on you! If you hadn't argued with me over that bean, we'd already be gone!"

Raditz's fear boiled over into fury.

"You dare talk to me like that, Raditz?!"

"What's there to fear?! Once the Ginyu Force arrives, you'll die too!"

"You!"

Nappa clenched his fists, trembling with rage. He wanted to kill Raditz, but he knew it was pointless. Even if he did, they were both doomed.

BOOM!

The ship was almost upon them.

"Damn it, what do we do now, Raditz?! Think of something!"

"What do you expect me to do?! Gran's gone, Vegeta's dying, and with our strength—even with the beans—we'll each only survive one hit. There's no escaping this!"

Then, suddenly, Raditz turned in a different direction.

"Wait… what are you—did you think of something?" Nappa's voice trembled, hopeful.

"Not a solution," Raditz said coldly. "But maybe a chance. Just a sliver of one."

"Then spit it out!"

"We're going back—to save Vegeta."

Nappa's eyes went wide.

"What? Save that bastard? Have you lost your mind?! After all he's done to us—"

"What other choice do we have?!"

Raditz snapped, his voice raw and desperate.

"I've got a power level of six hundred! You've got twenty-five hundred! But if we save Vegeta, that's another six thousand on our side!"

Nappa fell silent. Even he—mocked by Vegeta for his stupidity—could see the logic.

The weakest member of the Ginyu Force had over ten thousand power. Even together, they didn't stand a chance. But with Vegeta, maybe… just maybe, they could survive for a few seconds longer.

"Damn it all… In the end, we still have to save that bastard!"

Nappa cursed bitterly but turned back toward the crash site.

Raditz followed close behind.

Not far from where Gran had transformed, the young Vegeta lay on the ground, barely clinging to life.

Gran's words still echoed in his mind

"Only three years, and you've already forgotten me?"

"It's me, Gran. I've come back—for revenge."

"You're still as arrogant, as heartless as ever."

"You call yourself the prince of Saiyans? You abandoned me once—how many others have you abandoned since?"

"I was the disgrace of our race? Then what does that make you?"

"Now, taste what it's like—to be the one left behind."

"Let's see if Raditz saves you… or leaves you to die!"

"..."

Maybe I really deserve to die…

Vegeta felt his life slipping away, his consciousness dimming

Until a sudden warmth flooded his body.

"What… what is this?"

That warmth grew stronger.

"No way… Could it be… the senzu bean Gran mentioned?!"

His eyes snapped open. Standing before him were Raditz and Nappa, trembling but alive.

"I… I'm healed?"

Vegeta stared at his hands in disbelief—then at them, his expression hardening.

"You fools have no idea, do you?" he hissed, his aura flaring violently.

"I heard everything. Every word of your pathetic little conversation."

"You actually dared—"

The veins on his forehead bulged, his eyes bloodshot with fury.

"to betray me?!"

In Vegeta's world, he alone was allowed to betray others—never the reverse.

Even if Raditz had just saved his life.

"W–Wait, Vegeta!"

Raditz pointed frantically toward the horizon, where the Ginyu Force's ship was touching down.

"The Ginyu Force is here!!!"
