Realm of the Gods of Destruction
Boom!
Boom!
Thunderous impacts echoed again and again across the violet-hued world.
" M-Mr. Whis… why are they fighting? " Shin, the Supreme Kai, stared wide-eyed.
He had only just been brought to the legendary Realm of the Gods of Destruction, and Beerus was already brawling with Gran.
The terrifying spectacle in the sky made both Shin and Kibito shudder involuntarily.
"Ohohoho ~"
Whis twirled his staff, and in an instant, a table and several chairs appeared beside the lake. Smiling, he said,
" This is simply their usual way of communicating. There's no need to worry, Lord Kai—please, have a seat. "
That's their daily form of "communication"?! Shin sat down stiffly, accepting the tea Whis poured for him.
The atmosphere here was utterly unlike the holy calm of the Supreme Kai Realm. The very air brimmed with destructive energy—no wonder it was called the Realm of the Gods of Destruction.
While Shin was still dazed by the thought, Whis suddenly spoke.
" Lord Kai, I suppose Gran has already told you quite a lot about the relationship between the Supreme Kais and the Gods of Destruction? "
" Yes. He told me that there are twelve universes in total, each with its own God of Destruction and Supreme Kai… "
As he spoke, the tension that had gripped Shin since arriving here slowly began to fade. He started explaining everything he currently understood.
" Not bad. It seems little Gran has been quite a responsible tutor. "
Whis nodded in satisfaction, taking a light sip of his tea before adding softly,
" Destruction and Creation complement each other—you two are indispensable halves of one whole. These past years, with Lord Beerus in hibernation, it was fortunate that you've been handling Universe 7's affairs. "
" Otherwise, our universe might very well rank dead last in the Grand Zeno's cosmic order. "
He set his cup down, his tone lightly teasing.
"I—I'm terribly sorry!"
Shin's face flushed crimson. " I truly didn't know there were such things as unqualified planets! It was ignorance on my part. If only I hadn't created so many— "
Whis waved off his apology. " It isn't your fault, Lord Kai. If anyone deserves blame, it's Lord Beerus. "
He cleared his throat, clearly unwilling to mention Majin Buu—a shameful memory best left buried.
" Now that Lord Beerus has awakened—and even taken Gran as his disciple—there's much that still needs to be taught. Especially since Gran has… wandered onto the misguided path of the Super Saiyan form. "
" There's a great deal for him to learn yet. I doubt Lord Beerus will have time to sleep again anytime soon. "
Whis's eyes drifted to the sky, where Beerus and Gran continued their fierce exchange.
"I imagine Lord Beerus will soon release the Elder Supreme Kai as well. "
Although Shin now knew far more than before about the roles of the Supreme Kai and the God of Destruction, there was still so much he didn't understand.
Gran as a teacher? Impossible—he himself was still a candidate God of Destruction, still learning. How could he teach another deity, especially one whose domain was the polar opposite of his own?
The only real hope for raising Universe 7's standing—and avoiding erasure by the Grand Zeno—was to release the Elder Supreme Kai and have him instruct Shin personally.
At the mention of the Elder Kai, Shin's eyes lit up.
Over the past year, he had heard Gran speak briefly about that ancient predecessor—his ancestor, fifteen generations removed—sealed away after offending Beerus.
" Mr. Whis, could you tell me more about my ancestor? "
Whis chuckled. " I assume everything you've heard so far came from Gran, yes? "
He glanced skyward again—Gran's knack for knowing forbidden secrets no longer surprised him.
" Yes, but Gran didn't know much detail. I'm still not very clear about who he really was. "
" Very well, then. Let me tell you about the Elder Supreme Kai. "
Whis lifted his teacup once more, taking a slow sip as he reminisced.
" Fifteen generations ago, the Elder Kai was an extraordinary being—his knowledge vast and profound. There were things in this universe even I did not know, but he understood them perfectly. "
" His insight was razor-sharp as well. Once he laid eyes on someone, he could immediately discern their flaws and weaknesses. "
" In that respect, he was nearly the equal of us Angels. "
There was genuine admiration in Whis's voice.
Shin swallowed hard. Gran had said that Angels were the masters of the Gods of Destruction—beings whose power defied comprehension.
To hear one praise his ancestor in such terms filled him with awe and pride.
" Mr. Whis… is there more? "
" But of course! "
Whis smiled, clearing his throat before continuing. " The Elder Kai also had some rather… eccentric hobbies. He loved studying all sorts of strange arts—magic, divine secret techniques, potential-unlocking skills, even the genetics of various cosmic species. "
" And of course… certain yellow-covered little books. "
His smile nearly cracked with laughter at that last part.
" 'Yellow-covered' books? What does that mean? " Shin blinked in confusion.
Whis burst out laughing. " He enjoyed adult magazines, Lord Kai. Do you understand now? "
Shin: " … "
Moments ago, he had been filled with pride for his venerable ancestor. Now, he wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry. So he was an old pervert after all?!
Just then
Boom!
Boom!
The impacts above grew even fiercer.
A violet light and a golden light clashed, shaking heaven and earth.
The violet figure's every strike could shatter space itself—yet each time he was about to land a hit on the golden-haired child, he pulled back with precise control.
" Do you see it now? Your Super Saiyan form can't coexist with Ultra Instinct! "
" Your emotions, your ki, your energy flow—all of it is disturbed by that transformation! You can't calm yourself; even your second-stage body instinct is disrupted! "
" Don't think that just because your power increased fifty-fold you've become strong. In my eyes, your Super Saiyan form is weaker than your normal state! "
" That golden hair of yours irritates me—now get down from there!! "
Violet light flared. Beerus flashed behind Gran and delivered a thunderous kick square to his backside.
Boom!
Gran shot downward like a cannonball, crashing into the ground and carving out a massive crater.
" Cough—cough—cough!! "
Gran coughed within the pit, dragging himself up. His golden aura had vanished; the Super Saiyan state was gone.
" M-Mr. Whis… Beerus hit me really hard. Heal me, please… " he groaned weakly.
Whis glanced over. " Don't you have Senzu Beans? Why bother me? "
" Senzu Beans are precious! Every one I use is one less I'll ever have again. Your healing magic is much more economical. "
Whis's mouth twitched. Does this kid even hear himself?
" Please, Whis! You're the best Angel in the whole universe! From now on, I'll only cook for you—I won't even look at Lord Beerus! "
Beerus landed beside him, tail flicking irritably. " Keep talking, and I'll beat your backside again! "
Gran flinched. Why does this cat always go for my butt?
" Whis, heal him, " Beerus said. " I want to hear how he explains that ridiculous Super Saiyan form. "
" As you wish. "
In a blink, Whis vanished from his seat and appeared beside Gran, waving his staff. A silver light enveloped the boy, and his injuries vanished instantly.
" Now explain, " Beerus said coldly. " Why insist on using that transformation? "
" In a moment. "
Gran climbed out of the crater, grinning impishly. " Whis, project Vegeta's image for me first. I want to see if he's dead yet. "
