Chapter 53 - Chapter 53: Ultra Instinct: Perfected?

Beerus and Whis held their breath.

Before their eyes, a small figure slowly emerged from within, radiating a dazzling silver light.

Whrrr—whrrr!

Silver waves of ki swirled around his body, and the intense heat distorted the very air around him.

The next instant

Those energy currents surged into Gran's body at terrifying speed. His hair turned completely silver.

If the "Half-Ego" state corresponded to the Omen level of Ultra Instinct,

then true "Egolessness" was the mental state of Ultra Instinct: Perfected.

At this very moment, little Gran had truly become as calm and boundless as the sky itself.

This state stripped away all human weaknesses, allowing Gran to act without conscious intent

to flow entirely with the natural rhythm of existence.

In this form, Gran did not gain a fixed multiplier to his combat power like a Super Saiyan would.

Of course, his strength had unquestionably risen

but it could no longer be measured by numbers alone.

Rather, it encompassed power, speed, reaction—a complete transcendence of being!

"Wh–Whis… Gran actually did it!!"

Seeing Gran's silver hair, Beerus finally got the answer he wanted.

He could finally speak again, his voice trembling with excitement.

"Lord Beerus, if I recall correctly, it took you ten full years to reach the Egoless state back then…"

Whis was visibly excited too, but before he could finish

"Stop, stop, stop!"

Beerus snapped, "Can you not compare everything between me and that little brat Gran? You know perfectly well how freakish he is!"

"Ohoho~ true enough. Both of you are my students, but Gran is clearly my most exceptional disciple. There's no way you could ever match him, Lord Beerus."

"What do you mean your student?!"

Beerus immediately ignored the part about being outclassed and shouted, "Did I not teach him as well? You really love patting yourself on the back, don't you?"

"Hehe~ someone may not have fallen back into deep slumber lately, but aside from eating and drinking, all he does is sleep in every day. I won't say who that is—I'll let someone figure it out."

"Get lost! How is that any different from just saying my name?!"

"Ah, but Lord Beerus has admitted it himself. In that case, let me add a fact you can't deny

it was I who brought Gran back in the first place."

Whis tilted his chin proudly, his face full of smug satisfaction.

"You!"

A vein bulged on Beerus's forehead. He was so mad he wanted to flick Whis on the head.

Whis's expression turned teasing. "What's the matter, Lord Beerus? Care to spar with me?"

"Go, go, go! I'm not lowering myself to your level."

Beerus deflated instantly—there was no winning that fight.

"Lord Beerus, Whis—sorry to have worried you."

At that moment, Gran's silver hair faded back to black as he stepped out from the doorway.

The two gods stopped bickering and watched the small child before them.

This marked his third year in the Realm of the Gods of Destruction

and in just three and a half years, he had grown to this level.

Terrifying.

"I don't know exactly what happened to you," said Beerus, patting Gran's small shoulder,

"but as long as you're okay, that's all that matters."

Whis gently rubbed the boy's head with a smile.

"Sometimes, emotional turbulence isn't necessarily a bad thing. You used it to break through—to attain true Egolessness, didn't you?"

"Mhm."

Their words brought a faint warmth to Gran's heart.

When Vegeta was on the verge of death, he'd felt a rush of vengeful pleasure.

Yet mixed in with that thrill was a flicker of regret

regret for the proud second lead of the Dragon Ball tale.

But then, seeing Vegeta miraculously survive with impossible luck,

Gran could only feel… speechless.

Joy, regret, exasperation—the clash of emotions shook his inner world to its core.

Yet—from misfortune came fortune.

His Half-Ego state had long since reached its limit two and a half years ago.

That emotional upheaval shattered the bottleneck, propelling him straight into the true Egoless state.

Perhaps that was what Beerus and Whis had meant before

that breaking a bottleneck depends on countless factors.

Sometimes, all it takes is a change of heart.

"In that state just now, how did it feel?" Whis asked with a gentle smile.

"It was… incredible."

Gran looked down at his small hands.

"In that form, my power, speed, reflexes—they all skyrocketed to terrifying levels."

"My body didn't need my mind to think. It fought purely by instinct."

"It felt like my consciousness was detached—like I was watching from a god's perspective.

Maybe that's what you meant, Whis, when you said it was free of human weakness."

He closed his eyes again, savoring that fleeting sensation.

Beerus and Whis exchanged glances and smiled. That state truly was extraordinary.

"You're right," Whis nodded.

"It transcends human limitation. Your body acts without interference from thought—responding on pure instinct alone."

He paused, then continued,

"I once told you that true Egolessness belongs to the realm of Ultra Instinct: Perfected."

"However…" Whis looked at him with a light grin.

"Though your mind has reached that state, you haven't yet mastered the physical side.

So even now, what you've achieved can only be called the proto-form of Ultra Instinct."

Still

Compared to his previous Half-Ego proto-form,

Gran's current Egoless proto-form was incomparably stronger.

"I know… My body's instincts are still too weak.

They can't yet match my mental state."

"Ah, the student can indeed be taught," Beerus said, nodding with satisfaction.

Gran: "..."

"Don't be discouraged," Beerus added.

"Plenty of Gods of Destruction haven't even reached the Half-Ego stage. You're already exceptional."

After all, aside from Beerus himself, most Destroyers couldn't even grasp Ultra Instinct.

Beerus cleared his throat.

"And once your power and instincts evolve further, you'll naturally reach Ultra Instinct: Perfected."

His tone carried the warmth of a proud father.

Gran blinked, wide-eyed.

Half a year away, and now Lord Beerus was comforting people?

"I'm comforting you, damn it! What's with that look?"

Beerus's fists tightened.

Whis: "..."

Seriously? Just a moment ago they were sharing a touching moment—and now they're back to quarreling?

"Huh?"

Gran noticed Beerus clenching his fist and quickly changed the subject.

"By the way, where are Shin and the others?"

"They went back to the Supreme Kai's Realm. Don't change the subject, brat! What was with that look just now?!"

"I see. Then, Lord Beerus, when do you plan on releasing the Elder Kai? Surely you don't expect me to keep teaching Shin forever?"

Gran's eyes darted mischievously as he spoke.

"..."

Beerus's mouth twitched.

This little rascal was still as irritating as ever.

"Then let me ask you something."

Beerus grabbed Gran by the collar and lifted him up until their eyes met.

"You promised to explain that Super Saiyan form to us, didn't you?!"
