Gran had never imagined that even a quarter of a Senzu Bean could be divided further—but Raditz and Nappa, those two unbelievable fools, had somehow managed to split it into four fragments!
If even one of those crumbs hadn't existed—if Vegeta hadn't triggered that Saiyan body recovery glitch one more time—he would have lost to Ginyu for sure, and died right there.
But somehow… Vegeta actually stumbled upon the one and only chance to live!
"Those two really are one-of-a-kind idiots,"
Gran chuckled twice under his breath, his tone calm but edged with irony.
Then, just as suddenly, his expression returned to an eerie calmness—an unsettling contrast for someone who was supposed to have achieved a state of "half selflessness."
Beerus and Whis exchanged glances. For the first time, both wondered if they'd brought Gran back a bit too early.
"Then… should we go kill Vegeta again?" Beerus asked cautiously.
"…"
Gran said nothing. After a long silence, he finally sighed in irritation.
"Lord Beerus, you're so annoying."
Without another word, the small boy turned and started walking back toward the Temple of Destruction.
"???"
Beerus froze. Then he shouted after him, "Hey! Where do you think you're going? Weren't you going to tell me more about that Super Saiyan state?!"
"Lord Beerus," Whis said gently, shaking his head, "perhaps you should let him rest for now. He's been training outside for a year—and then got beaten up by you the moment he returned. I'd say he's earned a break."
"Tch! You're always playing the nice guy," Beerus grumbled, glaring at Whis. But then, as if recalling something amusing, he smirked wickedly.
"Wait a minute… you didn't actually think Gran was holding back on Vegeta, did you?"
"…"
Whis's smile twitched. In truth, that was exactly what he had thought.
Beerus burst into laughter.
"Hah! Didn't think you'd misread someone like that, Whis!"
But his laughter soon faded into a frown.
"Still… it's strange. He did go all out trying to kill Vegeta. So why did he seem… conflicted afterward?"
Off to the side, Supreme Kai Shin and Kibito looked at each other in utter confusion. They had no idea what those two gods were talking about.
Elsewhere, on a distant planet—one that had clearly been ravaged by a fierce battle.
Once, there had been thriving human cities here. Now, only ruins remained.
At the edge of that wasteland lay two trembling figures—one large, one small. In the center stood a ragged boy whose very presence radiated terrifying pressure.
"V–Vegeta's become so strong…"
Raditz swallowed hard. "I can't believe it—after recovering four times, he actually wiped out the entire Ginyu Force!"
"What do we do now?" Nappa stammered, his massive body shaking uncontrollably. "We betrayed him before. Vegeta's never going to forgive us!"
And then
"You two. Get over here."
The small figure of Vegeta turned his head, his cold eyes locking onto them. Behind his back, his hands were already glowing with two searing energy orbs.
Raditz and Nappa exchanged terrified glances. There was no choice—they shuffled forward, trembling.
"V–Vegeta, we were wrong! Please, for the sake of saving you earlier—spare our lives!"
Raditz's face was pale as chalk.
"Y–Yeah! We saved you four times! Please, just let us go this once—we'll never betray you again!"
Nappa bowed his head low, his heart pounding so violently he thought it might burst. Fear clawed at his every nerve.
Vegeta's expression was ice-cold.
"You two know it well—I hate betrayal more than anything."
The murderous aura around him thickened until it felt almost solid. The two glowing orbs in his hands flared brightly.
Seeing that, both Raditz and Nappa collapsed onto the ground, their legs giving out beneath them.
"Please! We're begging you—don't kill us!"
"Spare you?" Vegeta sneered.
"Go to hell!"
He was about to hurl the blasts—
but then, suddenly, a voice echoed in his mind.
"How does it feel, being abandoned by your comrades?"
Gran's words.
"Damn it…!"
Vegeta roared, hurling the orbs skyward instead.
BOOM!!!
BOOM!!!
Two thunderous explosions rocked the ruins.
Raditz and Nappa flinched, squeezing their eyes shut—then slowly opened them again.
"???"
No pain. No death.
They turned around—two enormous craters, each fifty meters wide, smoked in the distance.
It was clear now—Vegeta had spared them.
Raditz and Nappa's minds went blank with disbelief. The cold, ruthless, arrogant Vegeta… had actually let them live.
Impossible.
"Hmph. If it weren't for the fact you saved me four times, I'd have killed you where you stand," Vegeta said coldly.
Raditz and Nappa's eyes widened in astonished joy. It wasn't a dream! They scrambled to their feet and bowed low.
"Thank you, Prince Vegeta! Thank you for sparing our lives!"
"Hmph. Don't think I'll be so forgiving next time. Let's move."
"Where to, Prince Vegeta?"
"To train—until we become Super Saiyans. Then we'll hunt down Frieza."
"Yes, sir!"
Moments later, three Saiyan ships launched from the planet's far side, streaking across the dark sky.
Inside the central ship, Vegeta sat reclined, eyes closed.
In his mind, the conversation between Gran and the gods replayed again.
"Lord Beerus… Whis… Supreme Kai… the Candidate God of Destruction…"
So that was it.
Gran had already become the Candidate for God of Destruction.
"Heh… no wonder I lost."
Half a year passed.
Since returning to the Palace of Destruction, Gran hadn't stepped outside even once.
Then, one day
A wave of pure, ethereal energy erupted from within the temple, sweeping across the entire Realm of Destruction.
"What… what the hell?!"
Beerus, lounging on a deck chair by the lake, shot up in shock, eyes wide with disbelief.
"That's the True Heart of Selflessness! The genuine, complete state!"
Beside him, Whis's expression was equally stunned. Without hesitation, he raised his staff—light enveloped them both, and in an instant, they vanished from the lakeside.
Ignoring the barriers of space and time, they reappeared before the massive doors of the Temple.
"W–Whis… you sure you're not mistaken?" Beerus whispered tensely, not daring to take a single step closer. He could sense the overwhelming divinity emanating from within.
"There's no mistake," Whis murmured, his hand pressed to his chest. His heart was pounding wildly.
"It's the True Heart of Selflessness—beyond all mortal emotion."
Damn it… since when did an angel feel this kind of emotion?
But what could he do?
A child who had trained for only three and a half years had achieved the state of True Selflessness.
Even Whis's father—the Grand Priest himself—would be left wide-eyed in disbelief.
"He's coming out!"
