Chapter 22 - Chapter 22

The whole place was plunged into silence

The air stilled. Every gaze turned towards Logan.

"So," Jason said quietly, "we may already be near the child."

Logan's jaw tightened. "Or the enemy is."

Susan leaned forward, curiosity flickering in her eyes. "Do the Elders know which of them carries the true essence?"

Shen Rui'an shook his head. "Not yet. The prophecy says the Heart conceals itself until touched by fate. We're to observe, protect, and report ,nothing more for now."

"Observe?" Jason's voice rose, sharp and angry. "If the demons are already here, we can't just stand by."

"You'd rather expose us?" Caleb snapped. "Brilliant idea. Let's announce to the world that ancient gods are auditing Algebra II."

Jason glared at him. "Mock all you want, but waiting will cost lives. It always does."

Their voices clashed like thunder until Logan raised a hand. The room silenced instantly, not out of fear, but out of respect.

"We will not act blindly," he said. "The last time immortals fought in the mortal realm, the skies burned for a century."

He looked to Shen Rui'an. "You mentioned the Elders also sent documents on demonic activity."

Shen Rui'an nodded and placed the sealed scrolls on the table. With a faint flick of Logan's fingers, they unfurled in midair, glowing symbols flickering above the parchment.

"Sightings in the north," Shen Rui'an explained.

"Shadows emerging through rifts, corrupted flora, humans disappearing without trace. Energy patterns match those from the last Celestial War."

Susan's smile faded. "So the war never ended."

Logan's tone darkened. "No. It merely moved here."

"Wasn't this mission just to escort the Son of Destiny back to the Azure Veil Realm? How is it becoming more complicated?" Ethan mumbled rubbing his temple.

A low rumble of thunder rolled outside the mansion, as though echoing his words.

Lora's voice was soft but certain. "Then our next course is clear. We continue our cover within the school. The spectal's presence there cannot be coincidence ,it may lead us to the hidden vessel of the Heart."

Logan nodded slowly. "Agreed. The school will remain our observation point. But we tread carefully. If the Oracle's servants are here, they will sense us soon enough."

Leon stood, his robe whispering like silk. "Then we must be ready. Darkness adapts faster than light."

Jason exhaled, rubbing the back of his neck. "Wonderful. Another riddle. Anyone else miss the simplicity of immortality?"

Susana chuckled under her breath. "You mean endless boredom?"

He gave her a sidelong glance. "Better than detention."

Despite the tension, the faint laughter that followed eased the air slightly. Even gods, it seemed, needed the illusion of levity.

Logan stepped closer to the orb, his reflection fractured by the glow. "Send word to the Elders," he commanded softly. "Tell them we'll begin our internal investigation immediately. And request further clarity on the spectal's signature. If the Oracle of Demons has awakened…"

He didn't finish the sentence. He didn't need to.

The others could feel it, the faint tremor beneath the earth, the pulse of something ancient stirring.

Lora broke the silence first. "Then it begins."

Susan's smile faded. "No," she whispered, almost to herself. "It's beginning again."

Logan turned to face them all, his gaze heavy with both duty and sorrow. "Prepare yourselves. The shadows have found us sooner than expected. From this moment on, things might become more complicated, we can't put the students in school at risk ."

At the mention of students, a particular figure flashed Leon's mind before being discarded.

"No worries, soon as I noticed an abnormally, I already sent out my shadow snakes to watch, so if anything I'll let you know" Lora said coldly from a corner.

"Good" Leon said.

The orb dimmed, the sigils faded, and one by one, the immortals dispersed into the night leaving only the faint echo of power hanging in the air, and the feeling that fate had just taken its first breath.
