Chapter 3 - Wolves' Reawakening

Damn it! My legs are trembling, I can barely stand. I'm watching my husband transform into a giant wolf, battling seven wolves as huge as him? This has to be a dream.

The surreal sight...

"Clara, please slap me."

"What? Why?"

"I must be dreaming. Please, slap me hard. I won't feel a thing because it's all just a dream."

Clara then slapped me.

"Ouch, that hurt!"

"This isn't a dream. Dad is a werewolf, and those seven wolves he's fighting are from another pack that has always hated him. They've wanted to kill him for years."

"Werewolf? It's hard for me to believe."

"It's true. Dad couldn't transform like this before because his powers vanished two years ago. Somehow, after kissing you, he regained his ability. I'm so grateful to see my dad's wolf form again."

As we talked, the massive white wolf we'd been discussing crashed in front of us, his belly slashed and covered with blood. What should I do? We're outnumbered, and I feel powerless to help Mister Nikolai. He'll die if I just stand here doing nothing. What now?

"Mei, please touch my head."

"Touch your head?"

"Come on, do it now! I need your energy. Touch my head and focus your strength on your palms."

I doubted it would work, but sitting here crying won't do any good. I followed my husband's plea.

When my hand touched his head, I concentrated, summoning my strength. Suddenly, another consciousness took over my body. My eyes gleamed brightly. I couldn't control my movements! What's happening? Why is my body suddenly surrounded by a white aura?

"You, Nikolai Alpha Wolfenstein, I hereby bestow my power upon you. Unleash your fury and hold nothing back."

"I am ready to obey," Nikolai's wolf eyes glowed white. It was as if he had gained immense strength from an unknown source. His movements and power multiplied. With a single strike, all the giant wolves there fell powerless. Red fluid gushed from their bodies, bathing the white wolf in a blazing storm of rage. Amidst the blood-soaked rain, I slowly lost consciousness as the white aura surrounding my body faded. I no longer knew what would happen next.

The last thing I saw was Nikolai's wolf feet moving toward me, stained with blood.

Damn! My head was empty.

Everything went dark.

Next thing I saw was emptiness.

Where am I? Why is everything so dark?

There's an elegant woman floating in front of me all of sudden, emitting a dazzling white aura. Behind her stands another beautiful woman, friendly and smiling at me. The graceful woman floating looks at me closely. I try to ask who these women are, but she gently touches my forehead with her slender hand. The next thing that happens is...

I don't know...

Everything is dazzling because of the white light emanating from her fingers.

Slowly, my consciousness returns. I opened my eyes. Awakening from fainting, I find myself lying on the back of a fur-covered surface as soft as snow.

"What happened?" Damn, my head hurts so much.

"Mom is awake! Dad, look, Mom is awake."

"Oh Mei, are you okay?"

"What happened? Where are you taking me?"

"We're heading to the castle where my friends are held captive by the Amour clan's pack. With my werewolf powers restored, I can now free them all."

"There's so much I want to ask, but my head still hurts. I don't know what's real and what's a dream anymore."

"Don't overthink it. I'll explain everything later. For now, focus on calming yourself. I'll increase our speed."

My husband strides faster than before. I find myself clutching his soft fur to avoid falling from this strange ride, riding on a giant wolf.

Thinking back, honestly, it would make more sense if this were all just a dream. But Clara did slap me earlier, and it really hurt. What has happened to my life now?

Under the moonlight, I rode on the back of a wolf through the wild forest. Our destination was the fortress nestled deep within these woods. About a mile away, I could see the structure at the end of the path. Mr. Nikolai took us down to a safe spot on the edge of the hill, away from the watchful eyes surrounding the walls.

"Mr. Nikolai, you're not planning to go there alone, are you?"

"Don't worry, with the power you've given me, I'm confident I can free all my friends imprisoned inside."

"Please be careful."

Just a few hours ago, I harbored resentment and hurt towards this man, but now, seeing him about to venture into such danger stirred a worry in my heart.

The giant wolf leapt onto one of the fortress walls and climbed cautiously, evading the guards' sight. Bats fluttered here and there. Thanks to Mr. Nikolai's agility, he reached the topmost part of the prison. Suddenly, the wolf form transformed back into a human shape. The handsome, cold figure was one I knew well. I never thought I'd miss those cold eyes.

He raised his hand high in the air and then smashed his fist onto the roof of the prison. The roof collapsed, creating a large hole through which the moonlight flooded in, illuminating the imprisoned humans freely.

One of the captives looked up and said, "Who is that?"

"Is someone here to rescue us?"

"Who's up there?"

Those were the questions of the prisoners who spotted the figure above their heads.

My husband shouted loudly, "O fellow comrades! I am Nikolai Alpha Wolfenstein! The leader of the Wolfenstein pack has come to rescue you all. Accept the grace of the moon goddess! Transform, warriors. Long live fighters!"

Mr. Nikolai reverted to his wolf form. He let out a long, echoing howl that prompted all the inhabitants of the prison to do the same. In that prolonged howl, all the werewolves within transformed into their wolf forms simultaneously. Around eight furry creatures emerged from the prison roof in unison. Alongside them was my husband's solitary white wolf, commanding his troops.

The battle erupted instantly. Dozens of reddish-colored wolf-men clashed against eight grayish wolves and one massive white wolf. But Nikolai understood they couldn't win this fight. He commanded his pack to retreat to safety immediately.

He led the way, and they swiftly fled towards us. Clara and I jumped onto his back, and we escaped towards the town. I glanced back, seeing several furry creatures with red eyes glaring furiously.

"Damn it! They got away! How did they manage to regain their wolf forms?"

That was the question I heard before we finally arrived in a nearby town. We were safe at last.
