It began with an odd kind of quiet, the sort that settles into a hallway after most of the household has already retreated for the night. Verona followed Brielle through that muted corridor with an absent sort of calm, the gentle sway of her steps softened by the thick carpeting. Dinner had been uncharacteristically lonely without Elric, though she'd told herself it wasn't a big deal, she still caught her mind drifting to whether he'd eaten, whether he was working too hard again, whether he even remembered she hadn't been used to eating alone.
He'd said he'd be working late. She knew that. Still, she wished she didn't miss his presence so quickly. Ridiculous, really.
