Chapter 31 - The Talk

It began, oddly enough, with the faintest clink of porcelain. A quiet little sound that somehow echoed under the greenhouse's arched ceiling like someone tapping lightly on a hollowed shell. Verona sat first, hands folded in her lap, her gaze dancing around the place as if she were still half-unsure she was allowed to breathe too deeply near delicate things. Elric took the seat across from her, though the distance felt smaller than it looked. Maybe because he was watching her the whole time with that patient he had.

In the middle of them, the table looked almost comically small compared to the sprawling ocean of green stretching in every direction.

Brielle arrived with a tray, bowing slightly before placing tea cups and tiny pastries on the lace mat. "I brought the ones His Grace requested," she said, eyes flicking to Verona with a polite smile before she retreated into the rows of plants and disappeared behind a curtain of vine-like leaves.

"Try it, Lady Verona."
