Blanche's POV
Oswald's excitement was obvious when Zain gave his answer.
I suppressed my confusion and held myself together until Oswald finally retired for the night.
The moment we reached the upstairs hallway, I planted myself by the bedroom door without stepping inside. "Zain, what exactly are you playing at?"
I'd only returned to Jacob Manor because Zain claimed he'd located our marriage certificate. I hadn't signed up to put on some charade for Oswald.
This whole act felt pointless anyway—what was the use of pretending?
Zain caught the fury in my expression and flashed that crooked grin, reaching for my arm. "We should discuss this privately."
I jerked away from his touch, bristling. "I'm perfectly capable of walking myself."
I marched into the room and dropped onto the sofa.
Zain settled beside me, angling his body toward mine. "Grandpa has our marriage certificate."
The revelation hit me like a slap, though understanding followed quickly.
