Zain attempted to explain his logic, but Camila remained unconvinced. She gazed at him with fierce determination. "That's wrong.
"Mom and Dad told me Aunt Blanche belongs to the Callum family, and whenever she wants to return, the Callum Mansion will always welcome her. Her real home is right here, not with you."
Zain's expression darkened at her words. He studied Camila with conflicted eyes, momentarily speechless.
Camila was simply defending me because she truly cared, I realized. As her uncle, what grounds did he have to debate with a child?
When Zain remained silent, Camila pressed on stubbornly. "I won't let you take Aunt Blanche away."
I stood nearby, watching Camila fight for me, and felt my eyes begin to moisten.
Yet if Zain spoke the truth about knowing the marriage certificate's location, I was prepared to make the journey.
Before Zain's patience could wear thin, I lifted Camila and placed her gently in the living room's center.
