Chapter 4 - Wolverine

"No problem, go on in!"

The soldier at the border checkpoint looked at Gabrielle's documents, then waved her through.

Gabrielle let out a slight sigh of relief.

Her biggest fear was that the U.S. soldiers at the border checkpoint had also been bribed by the Facility and would detain them right there.

Now, it seemed she had been fast enough, and the Facility hadn't reacted yet.

"Thank you!"

Taking her documents, Gabrielle pressed the accelerator and drove towards El Paso County.

El Paso County is a county in the westernmost part of Texas, United States, bordering Chihuahua, Mexico.

Logan, the Wolverine, was currently working as an ordinary taxi driver in El Paso County; this was information she had obtained from the Facility.

Yesterday, she had already brought Laura to seek help from Wolverine.

She had initially thought that, given Wolverine's rumored personality, he would surely extend a helping hand.

But Wolverine had heartlessly refused her.

That's why she had risked going back to borrow money from her boyfriend, hoping to hire Wolverine to escort them to North Dakota.

"Screech!"

However, just as Gabrielle had driven less than two kilometers from the border station, a black SUV suddenly accelerated from the side and crashed into her.

Startled, she slammed on the brakes and swerved sharply, narrowly avoiding being completely wrecked.

But this forced her to stop the car.

Before she could restart it, four more SUVs drove up, completely surrounding Gabrielle's sedan.

It was then that Gabrielle realized the border had already been compromised by the Facility.

They hadn't been apprehended at the border checkpoint probably because there were too many people, and they worried about causing a disturbance.

More than twenty well-trained mercenaries quickly exited their vehicles and surrounded her car.

Seeing this, cold sweat immediately broke out on Gabrielle's face.

The mercenaries who had ambushed her in the alley earlier had worn plain clothes and used pistols to be less conspicuous.

But the mercenaries surrounding them now were all equipped with bulletproof vests and submachine guns, and also carried tactical daggers, grenades, and smoke bombs.

Their combat power was on a completely different level.

Even though she knew Goku and Laura were very strong, she felt that it would be difficult now.

"Aunt Gabrielle, are they also bad guys chasing us?"

Goku looked at the mercenaries cautiously approaching with submachine guns and asked Gabrielle, who was nervous in the driver's seat.

Gabrielle nodded, gritting her teeth as she quickly formulated a battle plan:

"Don't move for a bit. I'll go out first to attract their attention, then Laura, you ambush from the right.

Once everyone's attention is on us, then you, Goku, make your move…"

She planned to get out of the car first and pretend to surrender, to lower the enemy's guard.

Otherwise, in the current situation, if they all started shooting at their car, they wouldn't stand a chance.

Once the enemy's guard was down, the small and agile Laura would get out and ambush to draw Fire.

Why choose Laura and not Goku, who had stronger fighting abilities?

She considered that Laura had healing abilities, so even if she was hit by bullets, she wouldn't have any problems.

But Laura's weakness was also obvious: her strength was only slightly greater than that of other girls her age.

Without her Adamantium claws, it would be difficult to cause significant damage.

If her hands and feet were restrained, it would essentially be over for her.

After two battles, she had discovered that Goku was likely a strength-type mutant; he could send an adult flying with a single kick.

Therefore, his destructive power was definitely much greater than Laura's.

Once Laura drew Fire, Goku would come out and attack, giving them a chance to win.

Moreover, although Goku didn't have healing abilities, since he could catch pistol bullets bare-handed, he wouldn't be so easily taken down by a submachine gun.

Finally, she herself had a pistol, which could provide some auxiliary support.

Even if this battle plan couldn't completely eliminate all enemies, as long as they could take down most of them, they would have a chance to grab a car and escape the encirclement.

After quickly explaining the plan, Gabrielle looked back at Laura and Goku, preparing to get out of the car as planned.

On the left side of the back seat, she saw Laura, who had already unsheathed her claws and was ready to strike, and on the right… on the right:

"???…Where is he?"

Blinking, she realized that Goku, who had just been sitting in the back asking her questions, was gone, and the right car door was open.

"Oh no!"

She turned to look outside the car, and indeed, Goku had already gotten out and walked up to the mercenary closest to their car.

"Hey, has your World's strongest expert arrived? I want to spar with him!"

"Who is this kid?"

The mercenary was stunned; this Asian-looking boy was not among the targets for apprehension, but as an elite, his reaction was quick.

He immediately delivered a fierce knee strike towards Goku's stomach.

However, before the knee strike could hit its target, he found himself flying backwards, then let out a scream and lost consciousness.

It turned out that Goku, seeing the other party attack him, had struck first with a punch, sending him flying.

The other mercenaries' pupils contracted, realizing Goku was not simple, and immediately opened Fire, wildly spraying bullets.

Dense bullets flew towards Goku, but he remained completely unfazed.

"Afterimage Technique!"

The bullets, upon reaching Goku, who was making a funny face, all passed through him as if hitting thin air.

The mercenaries present were instantly dumbfounded.

"He's a mutant who can create illusions, everyone be careful!"

The experienced captain immediately shouted loudly.

He mistook Goku's Afterimage Technique for a mutant superpower.

However, his warning was clearly too late, because after Goku left an Afterimage in place, he had already rushed into the middle of the mercenaries at high speed.

Then, like a tiger entering a flock of sheep, he knocked everyone to the ground with a single punch each, in the blink of an eye.

"So weak. It seems your World's strongest expert didn't come."

After knocking down all the mercenaries, Goku's face showed a look of regret.

If the enemies were too weak, he couldn't improve his own strength.

Just then, the communicator on the mercenary captain's waist suddenly rang:

"Bill, what's the situation? Did you catch them?"

Goku curiously picked up the communicator and immediately shouted into it:

"Hey, these people you sent are too weak! Next time, send that World's strongest expert!"

After speaking, he threw the communicator away.

At this moment, Gabrielle, still in shock, finally reacted and quickly pulled Goku into the car, speeding away.

"This child, why is he provoking them? If they really send X-24, we'll be finished."

However, at this moment, Gabrielle also secretly rejoiced.

Goku was much stronger than she had expected, which meant their safety on the way to Eden had greatly increased.

If they could also hire Wolverine, it would be foolproof…
