Chapter 1 - The Weak

If being a vampire and not having blood for years was a crime, Vincent would have remained behind the bars instead of the melting snow he forced to lie himself on.

He would be happy to do labour and swallow warm food down his food pipe instead of taming his hunger with dirty snow.

Eyes gone of light and skin sunken with dark circles, with a face paler than the snow and blue veins popping here and there he was nearly dead.

The people passing by would give him a few glances but quickly looked away as he looked less worth than their time.

No one from the crowd guessed him to be the creature he was, but rather a pathetic rag doll.

He carried a name under which the Human Realm trembled, had no meaning now.

The sun shone brighter on his face, and brought his rosy lips, fever driven red nose and blushy cheeks to light.

"And how many more years do I have to endure, you fucker?" Vincent cursed under his breath and his eyes focused on the blank blue sky.

He got immortality, but at what cost?

Heavily breathing the misty air, he was nothing more than a dying twig at that moment.

Suddenly the torturous sunlight was blocked, and a human figure with dark brown eyes and black long hair appeared above Vincent.

The weak vampire raised his brow in confusion as he looked at the figure above him.

"What?" His weak voice dampen with tiredness poured out with hoarseness.

"Want this?" The man spoke with a cheerful tone, contrasting the latter as he held the freshly baked loaf of bread in his hand.

Vincent blinked his eyes with a blank expression as he registered the stranger's word.

His eyes immediately lit up as he nodded his head while his trembling hands extended to take the food.

With Vincent's gesture, the young man's lips subconsciously tugged into a smirk.

He didn't offer the bread immediately, instead took out a paper from his pocket, "Sign this, and I can guarantee you food and shelter for the rest of your life."

The vampire who was ready to enter jail for food and shelter, for him, signing a piece of paper felt like a mere task.

Without questioning anything he asked for pen and immediately signed the paper and snatched the bread from the stranger's hand.

Satisfied with the result, the young man walked away as Vincent chopped down the bread with his fangs.

He closed his eyes with satisfaction as after months something solid landed on his stomach.

He layed on the cold snow, eating the bread under the perfect sun.

But something felt off. His left eyes twitched before closing itself. The right eye felt heavier before it followed the other eye.

And before Vincent realised, he passed out.

****

Something felt different in the air. Smell of blood.

Yes. It definitely smelled like blood and not silverwater.

Vincent eyes shot open and he immediately jumped on the nearest human to him.

Drunken under the sweet influence of human blood, and years of hunger, Vincent forgot to count the consequence.

The scream fell short by his ears as he licked the wound from the pulsating neck.

But the peace didn't remained long before a hard piece of branch struck the back of his head.

Vincent halted his action and turned his head to look at a cowardly boy trying to act brave, holding a broken shard of branch in his hand.

The vampire eyes slowly turned into bloody red before he extended his hand and created a mass of black energy before launching the shadow orb at the direction of the boy.

"Stop!" A shrilling voice echoed through the forest and pierced Vincent ears.

He glanced at the woman behind him, the source of the noise and next, turned his head towards the shadow orb, which long before dissipated into the air.

Vincent eyes backed to normal and he looked around his surroundings. He tried to move but, something snapped at his neck.

He looked down, only to notice a golden string tied around his neck, connected to a wrist of a woman he never met.

The woman face was hidden with a veil, hence he couldn't read her expression even if she was shocked.

But he knew he fucked up.

His eyes widened with shock as he looked at the boy with broken branch and not to mention, there were other witnesses too.

What the fuck? What the fuck?

Cold sweat broke out on his temple and the confidence he had gained a minute ago disappeared into thin air.

How could he make such mistake...

All he could possibly do was make an attempt to run.

And he did, only to fail as the woman pulled her wrist, snapping his neck and made him fall on the ground.

The boy who struck him before, swung the branch above his head to strike Vincent, but before the attack could land on the vampire, the woman halted his action and approached the Vincent, "What are you?"

Vincent lips were seal tied, unable to form any answer for the woman's question.

"Are you mute?" Her voice was cold, piercing through the warm afternoon.

No.

But Vincent couldn't reply. He licked the blood on his lips, and as a result, his eyes turned red with the surging power.

Shit, he couldn't comprehend, how much hunger he had borne for all this years as the he could focus on nothing but blood.

He thought of the boy who had asked him to sign the contract in exchange of the bread and promised him of food and shelter.

And when he looked into the surrounding, the boy was not wrong.

He looked down at his hands only to notice no mark of infection.

So the human in this world are Silverwater free? They are pure blooded?

For a fraction of second, he lost his mind, recalling his past sufferings after consumption of human blood.

But past was a past, and now the present seems bright?

He didn't know who that boy was, but he was thankful to him for teleporting him to this realm.

But he still couldn't figure out what was tied on his neck and how was the woman still stood upright, with blood flowing from the wound he had left on her and soaking her white robe into crimson paint.

"I asked, what are you?" This time, the woman voice came with rage, which tingled a sensory nerve in Vincent.

The golden string shone for a moment, trembling every nerves of Vincent before he spoke without realising, "My name is Vincent, I am a vampire."
