From the heavens that painted red down to the remains of the earth was dominated by ash and grit for as far as any eyes could see, the ground was filled with spears, broken swords, torn shields; clearly a massive heap of all that was humanity turned to rubbles alongside piles of bodies.
There were malignant cries that filled the air posing as a form of torture to the men, Women and children that were still barely surviving the plague that had hit their world.
It was a truly a gruesome sight to be seen and...
'I am the one to witness it all,' Kendricks Skylar forced his eyes to stay open as they grew heavy out of weariness, he strained to take breaths through his nostrils as blood seemed to clog them continuously choking him at instances.
If not for his condition of being an awakened being and not a mere human, he would have surely fallen like from his wounds a while ago...
Kendrick's weak gaze wandered down to the destroyed flooring where many bodies laid gruesomely torn apart, men, women and children all alike, dressed in armour similar to he's.
So it was clear this was a battlefield! One not in the favour of the young fighter.
'W—we did try our best,' Kendricks thought coughing lightly. "Our world was doomed from the start, but we surely did our best to fight for it, the dungeons, the gates that jarred through our reality and the monsters that came with it, the awakening of humans to fight those beings. It was not easy... And in the end, the earth still meets its doom, and I one of the most gifted humans alive..." He took his time thinking through his words then raising his gaze to stare forward... "Survived longest against you devils."
His pitiful eyes settled on a pair of dark iris that held coldness and death.
"Is this it?" The malevolent voice of the person he glared at spoke rather dissatisfied. "With all the time we gave this world to grow. it still did not put up a fight."
The words she spoke hit Kendricks so hard his gaze grew wide in utter bewilderment.
Then his gaze fell to the floor as though studying the bodies that laid there, then he spoke taking his time, "so all our efforts is nothing compared to a devil, our sacrifice is merely nothing, not even worth an injury."
The devil pouted her lips and then a satisfied curl was branded on her countenance.
She took a sitting position in the air where she stayed suspended in as though there was an invisible throne there, her obsidian imperial wings streching out in the air like an eagle hiding it's young.
And then she spoke, "Right now, you are the last human one earth currently... my colleagues have taken the souls of every last one of your race..." The devil shook her head revelling in the disdain emitted from Kendricks, she could feel and feed off it, and the satisfaction gained from them was insurmountable. 'the pain of when a human fails, the emotions are so enthralling....'
However no matter how much she loved the feeling she had to end it.
End the last human left on the planet....
Raising out her hand, at the man standing before her she spoke again with a much commanding voice. "Any last word? And your name too, so I can remember you forever as the human that managed to entertain me."
Kendricks dimmed his eyes and let out a sigh before opening them back with a low chuckle, a reaction the devil wasn't expecting.
"I am Kendrick Skylar, one of the strongest human to ever exist... And for a while I thought I was at the pinnacle of it all, I had everything in life; money, influence, women, but all that did not matter to me."
"What I wanted the most was strength, not for personal reasons but it was my dream to be the strongest, and for a while I thought I achieved that goal... Then you came, the devils whose strength are like deities compared to us."
He paused a bit to stabilize his breathing as he felt lightheaded, then continued, "No, I do not regret not saving humanity, however I am more disappointed that this... This shit is the fight humans puts up against devils—"
"How pathetic."
The female devil couldn't help but smile at his statement, 'What an entertaining human.'
However time for those pleasantries were gone.
"You really were an interesting person Kendricks Skylar, I can see into the life you lived, this is very much you, till the end." With that the devil flicked her hand at the young man and then his world went black.
Head down to waist destroyed into drops of blood and flesh that rained down afterwards.
He was dead...
And so was humanity.
And all that lingered in the air after that, was nothing more than the macabre delusive convictions of the man named Kendricks Skylar.

Everything felt warm, which was strange to him... For a second there it was uncomfortably hot and now the surroundings felt nothing but appealing warmth.
This made Kendricks very anxious. However he stayed calm as he began to feel movements around his entire being.
It felt weird but definitely appealing.
Without much time wasted Kendricks eyes and ears adjusted, then immediately he found himself in the most awkward situation he could ever phantom.
Kendricks was in a room, one he could barely recognize, white and large, filled with many women in particularly strange white outfits, resembling nurses but their technology seemed a lot more advanced than he recalled technology ever being at his time.
More than that being confusing, he was in the air cradled, and his limbs seemed smaller, his body felt maybe... Weaker and much more stiff to move...
It wouldn't take a genius suggestion for Kendricks to realize, 'I have been reborn...'
It was a shock to him, being able to live once more, the thought of it was even more bewildering.
He had many questions, why was he reborn? Where was he? Where were the devil's? Who was holding him? Who was he? He was puzzled by a dozen more, although something felt gratifying about his sudden realization.
This was his second chance at life.
