Chapter 93 - Chapter 93: Hatched! Oddish!

Chapter 93: Hatched! Oddish!

Looking at the illusions that were so dense they almost filled the entire battlefield, Kenji's eyelids couldn't help but twitch.

Terrifying! Truly terrifying!

If Zoroark was hailed as the Illusion Master, the Illusion ability couldn't possibly be as useless as it was sometimes portrayed in the anime and games.

Beedrill scanned the surroundings. Even it was momentarily unable to distinguish which Ninetales was the real one.

"YOOO!!!—"

The next moment, Ninetales let out a long cry. All the Ninetales illusions simultaneously opened their mouths. Flames surged forth, and dozens of fire pillars shot toward Beedrill in the air.

"HISS!!—"

"BUZZZ!!!—"

Seeing the fire pillars approaching, Beedrill held nothing back. With Overdrive Mode at full power, Beedrill's body became a mere blur. Its speed was so great that even Kenji's eyes could no longer clearly track it.

He could only vaguely make out a yellow afterimage maneuvering between the pillars of fire, dodging every attack from unbelievable angles.

Then, Beedrill shot out of the fire's encirclement. Its dual stingers were held forward, gleaming with cold light, as it plunged downward.

"WHOOSH! WHOOSH!—"

One after another, the illusions were pierced by Beedrill's long stingers. But unlike the copies created by Double Team, the pierced illusions only rippled slightly before Beedrill passed right through them.

The feeling was exactly like attacking a projection—you could see it, but you couldn't touch it.

Ninetales's trick was truly mind-boggling.

But as the saying goes, "one great force can subdue ten thousand skills."

No matter how many illusions Ninetales created, Beedrill's speed was simply too fast. In just the span of a breath, it had already pierced more than half of the Ninetales illusions.

Just a few more seconds, and Beedrill would be able to pinpoint Ninetales's real body among the illusions.

But at that moment, one of the Ninetales suddenly flickered and vanished into thin air.

Teleport!!!

What surprised Kenji was that Ninetales's Teleport wasn't an attempt to escape Beedrill. On the contrary, it was an attempt to close the distance.

The next moment, Ninetales's platinum-white body appeared directly above Beedrill. The instant it reappeared, a pillar of fire shot out of its mouth.

A zero-range, zero-frame startup. Kenji's eyes widened. For a split second, he was sure the attack would connect.

"BOOM!!!—"

But in that same instant, Beedrill sharply altered its trajectory, throwing its body upward. It not only grazed past the fire pillar, dodging it, but also seized the chance to thrust its stinger at Ninetales.

Aerial Ace!!

"BAM!!—"

"YOOOO..."

Ninetales let out a cry of pain and was sent flying backward.

The illusions shattered. Beedrill did not pursue.

Ninetales landed on the ground, its expression pained. It looked at Beedrill as if it were a monster.

So strong!!

Ninetales had been spoiled and accustomed to throwing its weight around in the Breeding House. This was the first time it had ever been soundly beaten.

"Do you want to go again?" Kenji, watching from the sidelines, walked up and asked with a smile, taking in the shock and fear in Ninetales's eyes.

After this clash, Ninetales finally had something to fear. Kenji hoped Beedrill would successfully cure Ninetales of its spoiled, bossy attitude acquired at the Breeding House.

...

In the days that followed, the Treasures Kenji had purchased were gradually delivered, and Director He also found time to drop off the Sun Stone.

With no more tournament matches, Kenji would spend his mornings attending classes, learning about the breeding and training methods of various Pokémon types. When he had no classes, he focused on training his Pokémon. His days were incredibly full and rewarding.

At night, he took his Pokémon to the Battle Tower for battles.

Since witnessing Beedrill's strength in their clash, Ninetales's arrogant attitude had noticeably softened. It was much more cooperative in training.

Kenji also took time out to complete the agreed-upon research on Overdrive Mode with the Metropolis Institute.

The Institute's payment was incredibly generous: one Exceptional-grade Silver Powder and one Exceptional-grade Poison Barb.

These were high-quality items that couldn't be bought with money.

Silver Powder could only be harvested from Bug-type Pokémon like Beautifly and Butterfree. Its effect was to enhance the power of Bug-type moves.

The Poison Barb was extracted from Poison-type Pokémon like Arbok, Scolipede, Drapion, and Beedrill. It contained a lifetime's worth of terrifying Poison-type energy, and absorbing it would enhance the power of Poison-type moves and strengthen the user's natural toxins.

Both Exceptional-grade Treasures were clearly prepared specifically for Beedrill.

Absorbing a Treasure took time, and absorbing an Exceptional-grade one took even longer. So, Kenji wouldn't need to buy any more Treasures for Beedrill for the foreseeable future.

...

A few more days passed, and Oddish finally hatched.

Oddish (1-Star)

Sex: Female

Level: LV.1

Type: Grass/Poison

Base Stats: 320

Ability: Run Away (Mastered the art of escape; can easily evade predators in the wild.)

Moves: Absorb, Growth, Leech Seed, Synthesis, Sweet Scent, Ingrain, Teeter Dance

Potential: S-

The newborn Oddish was a blank slate. Having gained experience raising Ekans, Kenji considered himself a competent "daddy" now, and he successfully guided Oddish through its infancy—the first week after hatching.

It was clearly a creature born with S- potential. Even at level 1, its move pool was already superb.

The five inherited egg moves were all excellent and highly practical.

Having passed its first week of infancy, it was time to gradually begin training Oddish.

But before training, Kenji naturally had to max out its potential.

In a familiar routine, he released the Oddish he had acquired earlier. He then used a Secondary Hero Replicator to create a clone.

With everything ready, he formally began the Star Up process.

Two and a half minutes later...

"Ding! Congratulations, Host, on synthesizing a 2-Star Oddish!"

"Congratulations! Oddish's level has increased from LV.1 to LV.3!!"

"Oddish has awakened its second ability: Solar Power!!"

"Oddish's base stats have increased!!"

"Oddish's potential has increased! Reaching S+!!!"

A string of notifications rang out, and Kenji's heart skipped a beat.

Solar Power?

Melody's Charmander had the Hidden Ability Solar Power, which allowed it to use the sun's power to boost its Special Attack by sacrificing HP.

Kenji was surprised. Did the system read my mind?

A Solar Power Oddish! Once it evolved into Bellossom, with Ninetales opening up the sunny weather for it, it would transform into a perfect sun-based cannon!
