Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Obelisk the Tormentor — Wait… Did I Just Banish Myself?

Come forth—my Snake-Eye deck's ultimate trump card! Obelisk the Tormentor!

With Ouyang Yanyan's commanding cry, a towering blue silhouette began to take shape.

First came an enormous hand, muscles like sculpted steel; then the rest of his massive, battle-scarred body.

With a thunderous roar, the divine giant materialized on the field—his presence alone radiating oppressive pressure that swept across the entire shop.

You Ye, however, could only stare blankly for a moment… then burst into quiet laughter.

This? This was how she used the Snake-Eye field value? Absolutely ridiculous.

Still, he wasn't surprised she'd obtained a God Card.

Earlier that afternoon, Wang Cheng and Luo Hao from the Duel Association had already explained it to him:

Within the Spirit World, the "gods" hold incredibly high rank among Duel Spirits—but that didn't mean they were impossible to contract with.

Once a duelist reaches Heaven-tier, gaining recognition from a godly spirit becomes relatively easy.

Conversely, most Heaven-tier duelists rarely seek them out—because while the God Cards were devastating at the Earth or Profound level, they simply couldn't keep up beyond that.

And sometimes, even lower-tier duelists could obtain divine approval—if the god sensed untapped potential within them.

Still, You Ye knew very well: in this world where Dueling was everything, "God Cards" were more status than strength.

Those who knew the true mechanics… knew exactly what that meant.

[Obelisk the Tormentor]

Divine-Beast / Effect / Level 10

ATK: 4000 / DEF: 4000

"Senior, what do you think of my strength?"

Ouyang Yanyan asked proudly, her eyes shining as Obelisk loomed behind her.

After all, records showed that in the past decade, she was the only Profound-tier duelist to ever obtain a God Card!

To her, that alone proved her extraordinary potential.

And Obelisk's raw power—4000 ATK, immunity to targeting effects, and the ability to Tribute two monsters to destroy every card the opponent controls—made it an unbeatable wall when paired with Snake-Eye's engine.

Every duelist of her rank had fallen to this "divine combo."

If only it were more consistent… Drawing an Obelisk without a proper setup always felt clunky.

"...First thing you're gonna do," said You Ye flatly, "is remove that card from your deck.

Mainstream duelists don't win by punching their opponents in the face with a God Card.

We win elegantly.

We dominate through control and precision."

His tone was half serious, half exasperated.

All that effort, just to summon a vanilla 4000 ATK stick?

What was she planning—to use it as a glorified token for Nibiru?

He'd rather see her summon Double Sky Prison to form an impassable fortress than this spectacle.

"O-Okay..."

Seeing the disapproval on his face, Ouyang Yanyan quickly nodded in submission.

She didn't understand why he disdained the divine so much—but she didn't dare question it.

If You Ye said it was bad, then it was bad.

"Senior, is Obelisk really that weak though?" asked Sheng Ning, watching in confusion.

"To normal duelists, it's an immovable wall—target immunity, 4000 ATK.

If I were using my Ancient Gears and couldn't bring out Ultimate Golem, I'd be under huge pressure!"

Even the Runick deck would have trouble, since their Freeze and Flame cards targeted.

Even Baronne de Fleur's negation targeted—it couldn't touch Obelisk.

In theory, You Ye's Runick had no clean out to it.

Still… she couldn't forget: when she once tried to commune with Obelisk, the god hadn't even looked at her.

"I'll show you next turn." You Ye said calmly, meeting her gaze.

She blinked. "Next… turn?"

"Mm. It's just non-target immunity. Nothing special."

He then turned back to Ouyang Yanyan. "You've got one more move, right? Go ahead."

"Yes, Senior!"

She quickly straightened, forcing herself to focus. She couldn't afford another mistake—not when her future depended on his approval.

"I activate the effect of Snake-Eye Great Ignis in my Spell & Trap Zone!

I place a Snake-Eye monster from my GY into my Pendulum Zone, then Special Summon Ignis in Attack Position!

I end my turn!"

As her final play resolved, Ouyang Yanyan suddenly felt a chill.

For some reason, she had this dreadful premonition—

that both her Great Ignis and her Obelisk wouldn't survive to see the next turn.

"My turn."

You Ye drew his card, glanced at it briefly, and asked, "Any response during my Standby?"

"No, Senior. You may proceed."

"Good."

"I Normal Summon Naturia Antjaw!

Then I activate its effect—by Tributing it, since the monster with the highest ATK is on your field, I can Special Summon two Level 4 or lower Naturia monsters from my Deck!

I Special Summon Naturia Camellia and Naturia Sunflower!"

"Camellia's effect activates on Summon— I send Naturia Sacred Tree from my Deck to the GY!

Tree's GY effect then adds one 'Naturia' card from Deck to hand— I add the Quick-Play Spell Blessing for Nature!"

"Next, I activate Golden Droplet's effect—

I can Special Summon one Runick monster from my Extra Deck.

I choose Mu Ning!

Mu Ning's on-summon effect lets me discard one card— I discard Runick Destruction Storm to add the Continuous Spell Runick Tricks from Deck to hand."

As he set the field, You Ye looked over at Ouyang Yanyan with a faint smirk.

"Now pay close attention.

This is why 'non-target immunity' means nothing against me."

"Yes, Senior," she said seriously, heart pounding.

Even Sheng Ning, recording on her device, leaned forward eagerly.

Whatever You Ye was about to do—it was about to rewrite how they viewed the entire Inspector Bureau meta.

"I tune the Level 4 Camellia, the Level 2 Sunflower, and the Level 3 Mu Ning!"

"Guided by the Spear of the Destroyer,

pierce through the City of Magic itself!"

"Synchro Summon! Level 9 — Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier!*

[Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier]

Dragon / Synchro / Effect / WATER / Level 9

ATK: 2700 / DEF: 2000

A triple roar split the air.

Three heads, gleaming white against a blizzard of ice, descended in divine majesty onto the field.

"Trishula… of the Ice Barrier?"

Sheng Ning froze mid-note, lowering her pen.

The Ice Barrier wasn't an obscure archetype—it was an ancient, powerful one.

And its dragons, while rare, were known among Master Duelists as some of the most versatile Synchros ever made.

But for anyone below Heaven-tier, summoning one was practically impossible.

Ice Barrier dragons were notoriously temperamental; those unworthy were burned, frozen, or outright expelled from the communion space.

Rumor said one Yellow-tier duelist had tried—and came back half-dead, swearing never to duel again.

Still, that wasn't what made Sheng Ning uneasy.

It was how You Ye had introduced it—

"The Spear of the Destroyer."

Because Obelisk… was also known as the God of Destruction.

And now? The Spear of Destruction had appeared.

She prayed silently that You Ye wouldn't push the joke too far.

Offending a divine spirit might not affect mortal duels… but in the Spirit Realm, it could be catastrophic.

Meanwhile, Obelisk the Tormentor had also noticed.

He was… confused.

He'd barely been summoned before this mortal pulled out Trishula—and now called it the "Spear of the Destroyer"?

His spear?

Since when did he have a spear!?

Wait… no. That wasn't the real problem.

As one of the Egyptian God Spirits, he knew Trishula's ability all too well.

And if his opponent was summoning it now—

Then he was about to be banished.

"Wait… no way."

Realization dawned.

Was he seriously about to be banished… by his own spear?

Simplified—

He was about to banish himself!?

What kind of ridiculous situation was this!?
