Dahlia's POV
Soren's voice carried a rough, weary quality that caught me completely off guard. There was something broken in his tone that I'd never heard before.
Those words seemed impossible coming from him. Here was a man who possessed everything others could only dream of - wealth, power, striking looks, and a family name that commanded respect across the city.
An uncomfortable silence stretched between us through the phone connection.
Then a piercing shriek shattered the quiet moment.
"Something's wrong. I need to go. We'll talk soon."
The line went dead before I could respond.
"Dahlia, are you okay?" Lorena's concerned voice pulled me back to reality as she studied my bewildered expression.
I managed a weak shake of my head. "It's nothing."
Lorena's tone grew gentler as she tried to offer comfort. "Please don't torture yourself over this, Dahlia. We're going to figure out how to help your mother."
I gave her a small nod, fighting to maintain my composure.
