Chapter 13 - Hilichurls Are Food? Come on, Be Human!

For the sake of better long-term development,

Liang Chuan had no intention of placing the [Bioenergy Terminal] inside any of the existing nations.

He was going to establish his own power on Teyvat—

a brand-new faction spread across all seven nations, made up entirely of players!

Once the members of the Flower-Feather Clan left,

Liang Chuan immediately instructed the system to deduct his bioenergy points and begin recruiting players.

At the same time, he set up the recruitment ratio according to profession type:

"Tank," "Archer," "Warrior," "Mage," "Support," and "Assassin."

The ratio was 3:3:1:1:1:1,

with "Tanks" and "Archers" taking priority for early exploration.

Once the initial phase was over, he would lift all class restrictions—

and by then, even if everyone who joined later became a Mage, it wouldn't disrupt the overall balance.

Players began to descend.

Depending on how detailed their "character customization" was,

constructing a physical body took anywhere from one minute to half an hour!

Only now did Liang Chuan realize that after the [Bioenergy Terminal] upgrade,

The improved "player descent" process came with a heavy time cost.

Each custom body took forever to finish...

While waiting, Liang Chuan used the [Fourth Calamity] system to design automatic quests that would trigger the moment players emerged from the [Bioenergy Terminal]—

quests that could be completed and settled directly through the "Game" interface.

That way, players wouldn't have to run up to him every time,

staring at the glowing "!" or "?" above his head.

The first was the absolute main questline running through the entire "game":

Protect the NPC named 'Liang Chuan'!

If Liang Chuan dies, the entire game collapses!

The second main quest:

Protect the [Bioenergy Terminal]

and upgrade its level.

The [Bioenergy Terminal] was the very foundation of player existence.

As it leveled up, its conversion efficiency improved.

When players defeated monsters, they would earn more bioenergy,

and Liang Chuan would in turn be able to recruit even more players.

The third main quest:

Build the Base.

At the moment, the base only had three structures:

[Bioenergy Terminal], [Wooden Shelter], and [Workbench].

Even with just these three, there was a lot of room for improvement—

not to mention all the future buildings like [Residential Halls], [Farmlands], [Ranches], [Fishponds], [Warehouses], [Logging Camps], [City Walls], [Watchtowers], and so on...

a huge variety of potential constructions.

This "game" even allowed for building city walls!

Of course, the top priority was the living-related buildings—

[Residential Halls], [Farmlands], [Ranches], and [Fishponds].

There were five hundred players here;

if they couldn't eat or find shelter,

the whole thing would turn into a "Homeless Survival Simulator."

Before diving into the swords-and-magic fantasy of another world,

they needed to solve the problem of food and housing first!

Fortunately, among the "Support" players,

Liang Chuan discovered a special subclass—

the "Life" professions:

Players who actually chose roles like [Chef], [Farmer], and [Architect] after arriving in another world!

With these "Life" players taking the lead,

base construction wouldn't be completely directionless anymore.

As more and more players arrived,

The three main quests were automatically issued by the system.

Liang Chuan was finally free to just sit back and supervise from behind the scenes.

The next morning—

the second day after the five hundred players descended—

Liang Chuan was awakened by a commotion outside.

"The stove's ready!"

"The grill's done!"

"Got the oil extracted from those wild boars!"

"Okay! Just brush the food with oil and we can start roasting!"

Listening to their chatter, Liang Chuan nodded in approval.

Not bad!

Only one day in, and they were already eating barbecue!

"All right! Oil's on—bring up the Hilichurl!"

"Huh? Wait—what?! They're eating roasted Hilichurl?!"

Liang Chuan froze.

Then realization hit him like a lightning bolt.

"What are these lunatics planning to eat?!"

He slammed his door open with a bang.

"Stop! Don't light that fire!!!" he shouted.

"Hey, that's the Title Boss—ID: Liang Chuan!

Must be the main NPC we're supposed to protect!"

A player named [Loves Fried Rice] waved at him cheerfully.

"Morning, Chuan-ge!"

"Cut the crap! Get that Hilichurl down from there!"

Liang Chuan pointed at the grill—

a naked, oil-brushed Hilichurl trussed up and still alive.

They were actually going to roast it alive?!

You monsters! Could you please act like decent human beings?!

Liang Chuan rubbed his temples, feeling a migraine coming on.

As expected of the "Fourth Calamity"…

These players had no sense of restraint or reason at all.

At this rate, if they ever met Paimon,

they'd probably actually treat her as emergency rations…

That horrifying thought made Liang Chuan immediately add a new rule to the game settings:

No eating humanoid creatures!

Anyone who does so will be instantly kicked out and permanently banned!

"Wait, Chuan-ge, so Hilichurls aren't edible?"

[Loves Fried Rice] asked, confused.

"Of course not! They're humans who've been cursed and transformed!

Even if you're not afraid of the curse, aren't you worried about catching some weird disease like the Ruin Virus?!"

"Oh… they used to be humans?"

[Loves Fried Rice] blinked, then shivered a little.

"Yeah, no thanks. I'm not eating that."

He sighed. "Guess I'll have to buy some wild boar meat off the trading platform.

It's three hundred credits a jin now—

enough to get me a hotpot meal in real life…"

He grumbled, "Man, I didn't think this game would be so pay-to-win."

"Hey! Aren't we [Chefs]?"

his friend [BetterFriedNoodles] said, tapping the air.

"We can use our cooking skills to make gourmet food, then sell it to other players!

That way, we keep ourselves fed and earn credits!"

"Hey, that's genius!"

[Loves Fried Rice] exclaimed.

"If we run a food business in-game,

we might even make enough to supplement our real-life expenses!

Who says 'Life' professions are useless?

They're amazing!"
