Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 – The Useless System

Lin Mo began his descent down the mountain.

As a man from the modern world, he had never once gone hiking in his previous life — not even for fun. Fortunately, the memories left behind by the body's former owner guided his steps through the uneven terrain.

While descending, he activated the so-called "System" to scan the area.

The results were… disappointing.

It could identify anything — but only if he himself already knew about it.Whether that knowledge came from his past life or the original owner's memories didn't matter. As long as he had ever learned it, even if he couldn't consciously recall it, the system could recognize it.

Unfortunately, that didn't help much. With only a few fragments of the body's hunting knowledge and his own long-forgotten trivia, all he could find were some edible plants and herbs. At least it meant he wouldn't starve tonight.

The scan range had another annoying limit — it only worked on what was within his direct line of sight.

Anything underground or hidden behind obstacles remained a blank void.

[Host, I can only scan what your divine perception allows. Once you gain that ability, I'll be able to analyze things beneath the ground or behind barriers.]

Lin Mo raised an eyebrow. "So this world really has cultivation?"

[I'm not sure. But based on the novels in your memories, 'divine perception' seems to be one of the stages cultivators achieve. If you ever reach that level, my functions will expand accordingly.]

He sighed. "If I ever have divine perception, why would I even need you then?"

The little robot avatar in the system interface froze, its expression turning blank and pitiful.

"Forget it," Lin Mo muttered. "Let's just get to the village. I don't want to meet the tiger that killed the original body."

From the inherited memories, he knew this world had martial artists — people capable of fighting entire armies alone. Not that he had ever seen one in person.

Still, he remembered there was a martial-arts manual at home — a family heritage. It wasn't some ancient relic from a long-lost sect, but something each generation of the Lin family had refined and improved, drawing from their experience in hunting and archery.

His grandfather and father had both fully mastered it, their skills earning them renown as top hunters in the surrounding villages.

Lin Mo clenched his fists."I should check that manual once I get back," he murmured."Let's see if this useless system can actually show its worth then."
