The moment the call ended, I just sat there, staring at my phone like it had personally offended me. My heartbeat was loud, steady and angry. I could still hear the assistant's voice in my ears, calm and polite yet carrying the most ridiculous news I had heard all month.
I slowly lifted my gaze to Caleb the sales manager who was already standing in front of my desk sweating like someone had turned on a heater under him.
"So" I said quietly, too quietly "you're telling me…"
I placed the phone down on the table with forced calmness.
"That the Aaron wedding, the biggest social event of the year, the one we fought tooth and nail for, has suddenly slipped out of Solaria's hands"
Caleb swallowed hard. "I… I can explain"
"You'd better" I said, my voice sharpening as I leaned back in my chair. "Because according to the assistant, they won't be signing with us anymore. They're going with Zenith Hotel. Zenith. Our direct rival. The one we defeated in every round."
