Chapter 173 - Chapter 173 – The Swarm and Entei: ???

[Guzzlord: Junkivore Pokémon. Type: Dark/Dragon. Ability: Beast Boost. Level: 50]

"Only level fifty?" Charles didn't even bother drawing his wand.

The Guzzlord was enormous—at least five and a half meters tall, radiating a crushing sense of dread. But sheer size did not equal power. At only level fifty, it posed no real threat in Charles's eyes.

After several rounds of level-up rewards and frequent training battles within the Reserve, Charles himself had reached level sixty-five.

With a fifteen-level gap, plus the combined advantage of his Libero and Protean traits and a Dragon-type move like Dragon Claw, taking down this Guzzlord would be child's play.

So when the beast came charging at him, Charles darted forward in a blur of Quick Attack speed—

That burst of movement clearly startled the monster. It had never imagined that a two-legged creature could move this fast! After all, none of the beings that once lived in this ruined city had ever been this swift.

Even so, Guzzlord instinctively opened its gigantic, ever-gaping maw, intent on swallowing him whole. It had spent so long devouring things that it had almost forgotten how to fight. A creature that could consume buildings wouldn't think twice about eating a human or two.

But this time, its prey was Charles Gold.

A surge of green energy burst around his right arm, solidifying into massive claws—Dragon Claw!

The sharp talons tore into Guzzlord's hide, ripping deep gashes and forcing an ear-splitting howl from the monster. It was sent flying by the impact, crashing violently through the wall of a skyscraper.

Charles then pressed his palms together, forming a shape like an opening flower bud—then thrust forward, as if launching a Kamehameha.

Dragon Pulse.

Energy gathered at his palms, coalescing into the spectral outline of a dragon that roared toward the debris, jaws wide to strike down the fallen beast.

Even with the level difference, Guzzlord's HP base stat was a massive 223. In real life, Pokémon could endure far more punishment than a game's health bar implied. A follow-up Dragon Pulse was simply insurance.

BOOM—

The spectral dragon dove into the ruins, detonating with a thunderous burst before fading into silence.Guzzlord was down—completely incapacitated.

Seeing this, Charles calmly drew an Ultra Ball and captured the creature.

"Easier than I expected," he murmured with a smile. Then again, it made sense. A mere level-fifty Guzzlord wasn't enough to threaten him.

Turning the sleek, high-tech Poké Ball in his hand, Charles felt a flicker of doubt. If this was the true extent of Guzzlord's power, then how had it managed to drive the original inhabitants—and their Pokémon—off this world?

Could it be that this world had no Champions… or even Elite Four-level Trainers?

Something wasn't right.

RUMBLE—

A low tremor echoed through the air.

"An earthquake? Is the building collapsing?"

He gripped his wand and rushed outside. But even as a section of the wall crumbled, the skyscraper still stood tall. The trembling, however, didn't stop.

Charles crouched, pressing his hand to the sandy ground. Grains vibrated violently against his palm.

"The source of the quake… it's coming from far away—and getting closer."

Realizing that, he shot into the sky, gazing toward the direction of the disturbance.

In the distance—

Golden sand rolled upward like a vast yellow veil, rising from the ground into the air, blotting out visibility for kilometers.

And beneath that curtain of dust… a dark, writhing mass.

[Guzzlord... Level: 50][Guzzlord... Level: 49][Guzzlord... Level: 53][...]

Thousands upon thousands of Guzzlord surged forward like a living locust swarm! Everything in their path—even the sand itself—was devoured without restraint.

Charles's chest tightened. Now he understood how this world had perished.

He recalled the Pokédex entry from Ultra Moon:

"It's a dangerous Ultra Beast, alien to this world. But in its own dimension, it seems to be a common life form."

"So in their native world… creatures this strong are as common as Pikachu—like stray dogs by a fireplace?"

"No," he muttered grimly. "Because they devoured every other species, their kind multiplied endlessly. Their numbers might already be beyond comprehension."

His fingers clenched around his wand. Capturing them all was impossible—he didn't have nearly enough Poké Balls. And even if he did, what would he do with them afterward?

"There's only one option—eradicate some of them."

He made up his mind.If he was to live here, he'd have to keep the Guzzlord population firmly under control.

"Infernal Abyss!"

A surge of Fiendfyre erupted beside him, transforming into a storm of blazing meteors that rained upon the swarm! The crimson sea of flames roared like a living ocean, engulfing everything in its path.

But the devouring beasts didn't stop. The fire seared their bodies, yet they continued their advance, consumed by hunger.

"So you even intend to eat the fire?"Charles's heart pounded. The abyssal flames that had annihilated countless foes before now seemed ineffective. Dragon-type resistance—and their bizarre digestive anatomy—made Guzzlord nearly immune. Even after swallowing the fire, it didn't ignite from within.

"A move like Swallow? How troublesome…"The Swallow technique was normally paired with Stockpile, but in the real world—where even Counter could defy logic—this wasn't impossible.

"In that case…"A new flame flared to life in his hand—radiant and gold.

"If Moltres's flames don't work… let's try Ho-Oh's."

He swapped to the Rainbow Wand. At once, it resonated with the golden blaze—the two sharing the same divine origin. Both were gifts of the legendary Pokémon, Ho-Oh.

As they harmonized, the flames surged higher.

Then Charles fused it with the mythical Gubraithian Fire. The two combined, merging into something entirely new—a transcendent flame.

He smirked. "I'll call this one… Entei."

(Entei: ???)

Under his control, the golden blaze coalesced into the form of a massive, roaring lion of fire. Within it, a bird of flame unfurled its wings.

At last, the silhouette of a Pokémon radiant as the sun spread across the battlefield—and its fiery dance reduced the swarm to ash.
