Chapter 71 - Chapter 71: He Won’t Celebrate

(Jayjay's POV)

The school day dragged on like any normal Friday — teachers coming in and out, assignments piling up, and the sound of pencils scratching paper filling the Section E classroom. Everyone looked half-dead from the week's lessons, waiting for that one sweet sound that marked freedom.

And then—

RING!!!

The final bell echoed through the hall, and instantly the room came alive.

Chairs scraped, laughter broke out, and the Section E boys cheered like they'd just won a championship.

"Finally! Weekend, here we come!" Yuri shouted, stretching his arms so wide he almost hit David in the face.

"Watch it, dude!" David grumbled, half-asleep with his head still on the desk.

Kiefer laughed beside me, ruffling my hair. "Looks like someone's ready to disappear into her blanket cocoon for two days straight."

I rolled my eyes. "Excuse me? I actually have plans."

"Plans to sleep?" he teased, leaning closer with that smug grin.

I was about to throw a playful punch when I noticed Ciel walking toward us, her usual bright expression replaced by a small frown.

I straightened up a little. "Hey, Ciel. What's wrong?"

She hesitated before answering, twisting a strand of her hair around her finger. "Um… I just wanted to remind you both… that Sunday is Adrian's birthday."

My eyes widened. "Wait—seriously? Why didn't anyone say that earlier?"

Kiefer looked just as surprised. "You should've told us sooner. We could've planned something."

But Ciel's expression didn't change. If anything, she looked more downcast.

Jayjay frowned. "Why do you look like that? Isn't a birthday supposed to be a happy thing?"

Ciel glanced at the floor for a moment before speaking quietly.

"Because… Adrian doesn't like to celebrate it."

That made both Kiefer and me blink in confusion.

"Why?" I asked gently.

Her voice dropped even lower, trembling slightly.

"Because… our parents died a day before his fifteenth birthday."

Silence.

The noise from the other students seemed to fade, leaving only the heavy stillness between us.

Kiefer and I exchanged confused, almost guilty glances — unsure what to say, unsure how to comfort her.

Ciel forced a tiny smile, but it didn't reach her eyes.

"Anyway… I just thought you two should know."

She turned and walked away, her ponytail swaying softly as she left the room.

I looked at Kiefer, and he looked back at me, both of us sharing the same silent thought —

This Sunday… wasn't going to be just another day.
