Chapter 32 - 32

Mars Assault Team!" Just as Fisher climbed onto a church with half its roof blown off, a burst of bullets rattled against his chest, knocking him to the ground.

"Damn it!" Fisher rolled, dodging the bullets and shrinking behind a wall, then he grabbed a sensor grenade from his waist and threw it.

The beeping, red-flashing sensor grenade emitted invisible light waves, displaying the firing UNSA soldiers on his helmet's screen.

Fisher turned, got up, took the EBR-800 energy sniper rifle from his back, and locked onto the target through the stone.

A brilliant blue energy beam melted stone and steel, pierced through bricks and asbestos tiles, and then struck vulnerable flesh.

The energy weapons used by both sides in the Infinite War were not strictly lasers, but rather plasma energized by electricity, with strong destructive power upon hitting the human body. Even though Fisher deliberately attacked only the non-vital parts of these soldiers, they would still inevitably need prosthetics in their future lives.

"My apologies!" Fisher tossed aside the hemostatic packs on their bodies, kicked away their weapons, and then pursued them along their trail.

Reyes's plane crash site wasn't too far. The Jackal fighter's vector engine was destroyed, but the open cockpit and the fallen Martian combat robots nearby indicated that he was still fully capable in combat… Reyes hid behind cover, watching the machine gun spitting fire above him. He had chased Riah all the way to a half-collapsed skyscraper, where he was attacked by numerous combat robots. If it weren't for the friendly Raven transport providing him with a round of fire support, he might have had to hunker down behind cover and wait for reinforcements, instead of now single-handedly fighting his way through numerous obstacles to the next level of the platform's summit.

At this moment, Reyes was burning with anxiety. He had only just realized that Riah's goal was not to escape, but to destroy the steel shield guarding Earth's sky.

There could be no more delays. Every second of delay increased the possibility of Earth being attacked. Once the railguns deployed on the ground were destroyed, Reyes couldn't even imagine what would happen. The Martian army would kill every Earthling. They didn't need slaves or population. For them, Earthlings were already synonymous with livestock.

Taking advantage of the machine gun changing its energy magazine, Reyes spread the folding shield on his arm and roared as he charged towards the last Martian soldier guarding the platform entrance.

The two collided and fell to the ground together. The Martian soldier tried to draw his pistol to deal with Reyes, but the latter pressed down on the muzzle.

The commotion of their struggle attracted the attention of Riah, who was adjusting the detonator nearby. He glanced at the two on the ground, then turned his head back to the computer in front of him. There were still dozens of seconds until the AA gun's circuit overloaded. Once the overload was complete, his mission would also be accomplished.

Reyes also noticed Riah. He exerted all his strength to push past the Martian soldier's gun muzzle, firing several shots in Riah's direction, forcing Riah to leave the control terminal and dodge the bullets. The Martian soldier also took this opportunity to pull the muzzle back and give Reyes a harsh blow to the shoulder.

"See? This is you Earthlings, hesitant in everything, and in the end, accomplishing nothing!" Riah sneered as he got up, looking at Reyes, whose head was being held. Having taken a shot to the shoulder, he failed to take down the Martian soldier and was instead captured.

"You will ultimately fail!" Reyes endured the pain, looking at Riah, who was squatting in front of him, still toying with a dagger.

"Too bad you won't live to see that day!" Riah ignored Reyes's nonsense. After the terminal showed the progress complete, he unhesitatingly slammed the keyboard. Then, Reyes watched in horror as all the electromagnetic cannons deployed around Geneva exploded, sending up billows of thick smoke.

"No, no! What have you done?"

"This is manifest destiny!" Riah's face was now filled with fanaticism. He looked at the military knife in his hand, pondered for a second, and was about to raise it to stab himself in the abdomen. But just as he raised the knife, two gunshots broke the silence.

Riah, still with a trace of fanaticism on his face, stiffly fell in front of Reyes. At the same time, the Martian soldier also fell. Both had been shot in the head.

Reyes looked towards the sound of the gunshots. Standing there was a Martian officer in a black and red combat uniform, with a golden pilot's medal on his chest.

"You are?" Seeing the other party put away his weapon, Reyes also stood up, clutching his shoulder.

"To make a long story short, he has a transmitter in his body. As soon as it's dug out, the Olympus Mons will enter the atmosphere and fire a round at that building. So you need to figure out what you're going to do quickly. Also, don't think that as long as the transmitter isn't dug out, everything will be fine. Once Riah's vital signs disappear, the transmitter will also send a signal, so we only have thirty seconds!" Fisher took out a medical kit, pressed it on Reyes's shoulder, and spoke rapidly.

"I understand!" Reyes didn't question whether what the other party said was true or false, because Admiral Rains had been on the channel all along and had heard what Fisher said. Then, the Admiral's guard directly pulled the Admiral and flew out of the building.

"Retribution, prepare for a jump. Little Sa, inform the Marines to prepare to board!" In just over ten seconds, Reyes had devised a countermeasure and reported his plan to Fleet Command.

"Go for it! I've already sent people to support you!" Admiral Rains didn't wait for Reyes to finish his report before granting him all authority. Then, he switched the conversation to Fisher.

"So, sir, who exactly are you, and why are you helping us? I don't recall having you among our intelligence personnel!"

"I'm just a passerby. I'm helping you because I think it's a great pity. Humanity spent thousands of years leaving Earth, and the first thing they did wasn't to explore the vast universe, but to huddle in the solar system and kill each other. Don't you find that ironic?" Fisher held the communicator, looking at the distant sky where a new sun was rising. In the next second, a massive U-shaped starship abruptly appeared in the sky above Geneva, followed by an incredibly tyrannical speech from the broadcast.

"This is Admiral Salen Kotch of the SDF. I declare that Earth will completely surrender to Mars on this day. Now, I order you to kneel on the ground and await execution!"

Before the broadcast even finished, the axial cannon in the U-shaped depression of the Olympus Mons was already aimed at the UNSA headquarters building.

After a blinding flash of light, the building and the structures within a kilometer radius were reduced to nothing but a massive, still smoking, circular crater.

"Gett, now!"

There's one more update, it will be late, because the great Sentinel of Avelorn, the nightmare of the Dark Elves, the ruthless Alith Anar will arrive at his loyal Ulthuan. To be honest, Tyrion really has no presence compared to Alith Anar.
