Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: A Special Delivery

Kensei Muguruma held his wooden sword, his eyes fixed on the girl before him. From their last encounter, he knew this was an opponent worthy of his serious attention. However, he was very confident he would win this spar.

He was stronger than her. He just needed to use this advantage to end the fight as quickly as possible.

Kensei gripped his wooden sword tightly, let out a great shout, and charged forward, swinging his sword upwards from the right side.

THUD—

A dull impact sound echoed. Kensei Muguruma was sent flying backward.

"Impossible! Absolutely impossible!" Kensei sat on the ground, his face full of disbelief. He couldn't accept this result. The opponent he had been evenly matched with just last week had defeated him in a single blow today!

Kana Azashiro rested the wooden sword on her shoulder: "Heh~ I've been training... I mean, freeloading... with my life on the line lately!"

Kensei felt a sharp pain in the web of his hand and couldn't understand: "It's only been a week. How could your strength have increased so much!"

He had thought his Spiritual Pressure and strength were slightly superior to hers, but the outcome was the complete opposite, which was unacceptable to him.

"That's because I've mastered Spiritual Pressure control techniques. I use my Spiritual Pressure better than you!" Kana Azashiro said proudly. The hard work of the past few days had paid off, and it felt pretty good.

"Spiritual Pressure control techniques? Tch, must be family teachings. I lost this time," Kensei said, feeling bored. He got up to leave.

"What are you talking about? I learned it at the Katori Dojo. It has nothing to do with my family," Kana corrected him, then turned to leave. "Goodbye, I'm off to the dojo to train... and freeload!"

After the fight, Kana had completely forgotten about her punishment assignment.

"Wait!" Kensei called out to her. "The Katori Dojo you mentioned, what does it have to do with Professor Katori?"

...

"This is the Katori Dojo?" Kensei looked at the somewhat dilapidated gate. The "Katori Style" plaque on it looked aged, the carved characters heavily worn.

If he hadn't seen Kana Azashiro's training results, he wouldn't have believed that one could actually learn something in such a rundown dojo. After learning how effective Kana's training was, he couldn't sit still any longer. He had a strong competitive streak; when he lost, he wanted to win back.

So, Kensei decided to follow Kana to the Katori Dojo and beg Professor Katori to take him as a disciple.

"Yes, this is the professor's dojo," Kana said. Seeing that the gate was unlocked, she pushed it open and called out, "Professor, I'm here!"

"Come in, the door is unlocked," Katori Sora's voice came from inside.

Kensei felt a little nervous, afraid that Professor Katori would refuse to take him. Unlike the noble Kana Azashiro, he was from the Rukongai. His pockets were cleaner than his face; he couldn't afford any tuition fees.

The two passed through the entrance and walked along the side courtyard wall to the backyard. The yard wasn't large, and they immediately saw Katori Sora inside, looking up at the red maple tree.

"The professor is practicing a sword technique. Let's wait," Kana whispered.

"A sword technique?" Kensei watched Professor Katori's movements with anticipation.

Sora ignored the two of them because he had felt the wind. He placed his hand on the hilt of his sword. When the breeze carried away some slightly yellowed leaves:

CLANG—

A sword light flashed. The leaves floating in the air all appeared with neat, cross-shaped cuts, splitting into four pieces and fluttering in different directions.

"Hoo—" Sora exhaled, flicked his wrist, and sheathed his sword. After his exchange with Unohana, his understanding of "Senmaioroshi" had deepened, and he had gained some insight. To grasp this feeling, he had been practicing it more intensely these past few days. He glanced at his panel; the technique had now been upgraded to the Proficient level and felt just one step away from Mastered.

Sora felt that sparring with Batsunsai and sparring with Unohana were completely different. Unohana's sword was too ruthless and put him under immense pressure, but the gains from that battle were correspondingly large.

Kensei Muguruma's mouth hung open, and he was speechless for a long time. He couldn't see Professor Katori's movements at all. Before he could react, the floating leaves had been split into four pieces. If that had been aimed at him, his fate would likely be no better than those leaves.

The Katori Dojo really had something special! But now the problem was, how could he get the professor to take him as a disciple?

"What's that move called, Professor?" Kana said, clapping. "So amazing—so many cuts in an instant!"

"This move is called 'Senmaioroshi.' It's a very powerful technique. If you can master it, you can deliver hundreds or even thousands of cuts in an instant," Sora explained with a smile. "I'll teach you this move after you've built a solid foundation. Today, we'll start with 'Shungeki.' It's a relatively easy sword technique to learn."

"Student Kensei Muguruma..." Sora was actually a little surprised that Kana had brought Kensei with her.

"Professor Katori!" Kensei suddenly prostrated himself in a dogeza. "I want to learn the way of the sword from you. Please take me as your disciple!"

Since he couldn't afford a fee, Kensei decided to show his sincerity in the most earnest way possible.

Sora was slightly taken aback. Kensei had delivered himself to his doorstep. It was truly unexpected, but it also saved him the trouble.

"Seeing your sincerity, I will take you as my disciple. However, once you enter my school, you must respect your Professor and never betray the school. As long as you are loyal and cultivate diligently, I will teach you the way of the sword," Sora said seriously.

"Yes, Professor! I will not disappoint your expectations!" Kensei said excitedly. He hadn't expected things to go so smoothly.

[Kensei Muguruma has requested to become your disciple. Do you wish to accept him as a direct disciple?]

Sora looked at the text that suddenly appeared before him. Without hesitation, he immediately confirmed.

Successfully accepted Kensei Muguruma as a direct disciple.

Kensei Muguruma's affinity level has increased. Current affinity level is Friendly.
