With an empty basket ready, I turned back to pluck the ripe apples from the tree above me. I was fully absorbed in my work until I heard a small commotion behind me.
"Alpha, why are you doing this? Let the workers handle the harvest. You should be preparing for the feast tonight."
I looked over to see Mr. Stone Giant speaking with Soren with his usual expressionless face.
"It's not even noon," Soren replied, moving to the next tree. "I've got plenty of time to prepare, and this is just as important to the pack as any other duty."
Beta Ronan's gaze shifted toward Noelle, who was tossing apples carelessly to the ground.
"Noelle," he said sharply. "So this is where you ran off to. Mother's been looking for you all morning."
Mother? Noelle's his sister?
She pouted, brushing her palms down the front of her dress. "I've been helping the Alpha with the harvest."
