Chapter 36 - Esther: Black Sheep

The air between us shifted, heavy in a way I couldn't name. Through the necklace at my throat, I felt a new sensation, a tingle that left a trail of heat as it traveled down my body.

His all-black outfit made his ice-blue eyes exceptionally bright. They remained focused on me until I finally took a step forward.

My movement broke him out of his trance. He looked down and dusted the nonexistent dirt off his jacket.

"Are you ready to head out?" His voice cracked slightly as he spoke, but he recovered quickly.

My cheeks flushed as I nodded, "Yes."

"Then let's go. Everyone should already be there." He lifted his hand and motioned for me to step out in front of him.

This time, my body didn't stop me. I walked out of the room freely, holding the skirt of my dress up so that I didn't accidentally trip.

Nessa had found me a pair of shoes that fit. They were simple black heels made of soft leather, and shockingly comfortable to wear.
