Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Continuing Good Fortune, Starter Pokemon!

That evening, his parents and sister came home, and the family ate dinner together. The conversation eventually turned to Basil's starter Pokemon.

His father sighed helplessly.

"Basil, your mother and I have saved about 100,000 Pokedollars over these years—we were planning to use it for your wedding someday."

"But choosing a starter Pokemon is crucial for your future. Rather than gambling on luck at school, why not buy one from a shop?"

"I've done the math. While we can't afford a traditional starter, we can get something cheaper—like a Nidoran. That would definitely have Mid Grade potential!"

Hearing his father's words and seeing his parents' aging faces, Basil smiled.

"It's fine—I'll just get one from school. Besides, raising Pokemon costs money too. Nidoran eventually evolves into Nidoking, which is strong, but that needs an Evolution Stone!"

"Plus, I heard our school got several rare Pokemon this year—even traditional starters! Mom, Dad, Sis—don't worry about me!"

When Basil's parents heard this, they could only sigh helplessly.

They blamed themselves for being useless. Their son loved Pokemon so much—why couldn't they buy him something better?

This concerned Basil's entire future. They had no idea their son already had a Legendary Pokemon hatchling—if they did, they probably couldn't accept it!

...

After dinner, Basil returned to his room.

He'd said those things for two reasons—first, to save his parents money, and second, because he was confident in his luck!

The Divine Luck Card lasted a full twenty-four hours. If he could get a Legendary Pokemon...

Then naturally, one of the school's rare Pokemon would be his!

While Basil was contemplating his future, someone knocked on his door. It was his older sister, Lucy.

Lucy was three years older than Basil—graceful and elegant with delicate features.

She tossed an envelope at Basil, then crossed her arms.

"Basil, there's not much here—just 100,000 Pokedollars from my savings over the years. A starter Pokemon is a lifetime decision!"

"Combined with Mom and Dad's money, you can afford a decent Pokemon!"

After saying that, Lucy didn't give Basil a chance to respond and left the room.

Looking at the envelope on his bed, Basil sighed deeply.

"Refusing would upset her. So I'll accept this kindness and work hard toward my dream!"

"In the future, I'll be there for her no matter what!"

...

The next day, Basil packed his bag and headed to school.

Today was the day Silverleaf High distributed starter Pokemon. Many wealthy students already had their own starters, naturally.

Therefore, they had zero interest in the school-distributed Pokemon.

In previous years, the distribution mostly included Pokemon like Caterpie, Weedle, and Rattata. If you were lucky, maybe Pidgey or Meowth!

So historically, Silverleaf High hadn't sent many students to Pokemon universities.

And even those who made it weren't top performers.

That's why this year, the school suddenly decided to distribute rare Pokemon—Silverleaf High couldn't keep producing mediocre trainers forever!

This world wasn't that different from his previous life—except for the addition of Pokemon trainers as a profession.

Ordinary people still lived ordinary lives, keeping common Pokemon the way people once kept pet dogs and cats.

But centuries ago, when trainers rose to prominence—people with such immense destructive power—they stood at the world's pinnacle!

They became the architects of world order!

Plus, when nations resolved disputes through Pokemon battles, top trainers became what everyone aspired to be!

Not to mention, even Regular Trainers enjoyed elevated status and privileges—let alone Elite Trainers or higher!

Of course, having a starter Pokemon didn't make you a trainer automatically. You had to pass an assessment. Only with three Pokemon could you officially apply for trainer certification!

In other words, even though Basil now had a world-dominating Rayquaza, he couldn't become a trainer yet—he needed at least three Pokemon!

When applying for trainer certification, assessors evaluated your level. Only by defeating them could you obtain your trainer license!

...

Arriving at school and seeing only one month remained, Basil felt excitement building.

Even though he had Rayquaza, any Pokemon that would join his team was worth anticipating!

Besides, Basil believed that with the Divine Luck Card's help, whatever Pokemon he received would be exceptional!

After all, in a world where Mid Grade Pokemon were considered rare, Basil's expectations weren't too high—High Grade would be perfect!

Anyway, the System Shop had plenty of incredible items. As long as he kept growing, everything would fall into place!

Before long, Teacher David—their homeroom teacher, a middle-aged man around forty—entered the classroom carrying a box.

The classroom erupted in endless cheers. No one noticed the necklace Basil now wore around his neck.

On the necklace hung a Poke Ball!

His classmates were thrilled—they were all about to receive their starter Pokemon!

After all, with a global population of ten billion, there weren't that many wealthy heirs. And even if there were, why would they attend Silverleaf High?

Teacher David scanned the room, then smiled.

"Everyone, settle down. I know you're excited. These starter Pokemon are distributed by the nation—one per student. I hope you all treat your Pokemon well!"

"Spend this month bonding with your Pokemon. Bring honor to yourselves and to our school!"

After that, Teacher David began distributing the Pokemon.

When Basil received his Poke Ball, he excitedly summoned the little creature!

A small, entirely orange-red Pokemon appeared before him!
