Chapter 87 - Chapter 86: Praise Alpha

Chapter 86: Praise Alpha

Medias Sector,

Greenworld

This was a planet with an atmosphere rarely suitable for human habitation. From space, azure seas interweaved with green-brown continents in lazy swirls.

Sixty percent of the planet's surface is ocean. Diverse landforms created different ecological environments across five major continents. The largest continent stretches nearly 100,000 kilometers in circumference, with tens of millions of square kilometers of forests, grasslands, mountains, plains, rivers, and basins spread across its surface.

Ten technologically advanced cities were scattered across this vastness. Each housed 100s of millions of people, but on such a massive landmass, they appeared no larger than grains of sand.

Thousands of miles separated them, connected only by high-speed rail lines that cut across the plains at five hundred kilometers per hour.

On one such train, in a first-class compartment, Queen Leona sat in an ornate dress of red and gold. Her wavy red hair was adorned with a delicate golden hairpin embellished with purple diamonds.

She stared at the scenery flying past outside the window, her pale hand propping her chin. Four elite female bodyguards sat quietly around her.

A white-haired bodyguard spoke up, Nancy was dressed in a tight tactical suit bristling with weapons, a cannon barrel strapped to her back. Her expression remained cold.

"My Queen, we'll be at Lawbringer Military City soon, but you don't seem very happy."

Leona looked up. "Nancy, it's been ten years since I brought you all away from the Free City-States. We built Phoenix City together. Although those self-righteous fools from Bright City occasionally come to bother us, these ten years have been... comfortable."

She paused, frowning. "Tens of millions of people have been brought to Greenworld by immigrant ships. The vast majority of them are criminals, thieves, refugees, vagrants, and scum from various other planets."

"What exactly is that mysterious Alpha Legion trying to do? I've already declared myself Queen, and they still don't care about me. I just can't understand it!"

Several female guards giggled upon hearing this, while Guard Nancy calmly replied,

"The Alpha Legion only cares about those ten rapidly developing cities. They've been busy for ten years and have too many things to do; they simply don't have the capacity to deal with us!"

"This is a good thing for us. The surface of a planet is so vast that it's good that everyone manages their own affairs. Now we also have trade relations with the Lawful City!"

Leona perked up, sat up straight, and smiled. "I once led an army in a rebellion and thought I was guilty of heinous crimes, but now I feel quite wise and valiant. Praise be to Alpha!"

The guards smiled. One asked, "Queen, do you think that legendary figure behind the Alpha Sector truly exists? That great being who controls this entire sector from behind the scenes?"

Leona swept her gaze over her exquisite dress and smiled. "Look at us now. The answer is self-evident."

The train continued at high speed. Before long, they passed a mountainous area where massive bulldozers rumbled at work. The super-heavy machinery towered over 10 meters, a breathtaking sight. Construction sites dotted the landscape, all the way to the city ahead.

Heron Military City sprawled across the horizon. Buildings rose to a hundred meters or more, and mechanical transportation flowed through the streets like blood through veins.

On this wild planet, the city showcased the triumph of human civilization over untamed wilderness.

Soldiers welcomed Queen Leona's delegation and escorted them to the city hall's reception room.

The room was streamlined and functional, all metal structures in simple silver-gray with excellent lighting. A young man in a military uniform entered, smoking a pipe. A squad of soldiers carrying lasguns followed him.

The Queen's bodyguards immediately tensed. The officer didn't seem to mind and sat down in a chair opposite them.

Leona crossed her legs and smiled. "Mayor Reid, we meet again. You won't try to attack me this time, will you?"

Reid exhaled smoke and shrugged. "I have countless engineering projects underway. I've been swamped for the past 10 years. I have no interest in forces that rule the wilds, but it seems you've been doing well, Queen Leona."

"You really plan to build the Medias Sector to match the Alpha Sector?" Leona said with amusement. "I estimate even another hundred years won't be enough."

Reid took another puff from his pipe. "I'm not like you. Although I'm the mayor of Heron Military City, I also receive military orders from above. At first, I was unfamiliar with construction. I kept thinking about leading my army out to destroy you."

He chuckled. "But now I'm used to it. Perhaps this is what that great figure wants us to do. Uphold law and order, and most evildoers will obediently become good citizens."

He paused. "In ten years, I'm certain the people in this city are no different from the ordinary citizens I lived with on a planet in Alpha Sector. Isn't that strange?"

Leona leaned forward. "While you guys are ignoring us, a group of people determined to uphold justice has formed the City of Light to take control of us. Was this a secret organization you created?"

"No," Reid said flatly. "The immigrant ships brought not only people like you, but also justice enforcers from various planets who were... uneasy, and followed along. The composition is extremely complex. We haven't been able to investigate it clearly."

Leona fell silent. The mayor's words meant that no one on Greenworld actually controlled the entire situation. Yet the planet was developing well, as if someone was manipulating events from the shadows.

She shivered and voiced the thought.

Reid pondered silently. Leona said quietly, "Praise Alpha."

Reid shook his head and chuckled. "No one is manipulating us. We all simply did what we were supposed to do, and this is the result. I'm certain of it. Perhaps 'miracle' would be more appropriate."

Leona's eyes brightened. "Creating a miracle is already unusual. But that mysterious person has never even visited this planet once."

Reid didn't know what to say. If that great being truly existed and had orchestrated all of this over ten years ago, his wisdom and influence were extraordinary and unfathomable.

They chatted for a while before discussing trade between Phoenix City and Heron Military City. Both sides were pleased with the outcome.

Perhaps even Omega didn't know that due to the miraculous development of Medias Sector, some people on these planets had begun to regard him as nearly divine.

From Leona's perspective, a great being had rescued her from imprisonment and given her freedom on a wild planet. He had allowed them to build comfortable, stable homes for themselves. Such deeds easily led people like her to worship this great being as a deity.

This faith and worship were, to some extent, the spiritual comfort that people like Leona desperately needed. Religious belief has always been tied more to spiritual culture than rational logic, the same principle as the Imperial Cult on Terra.

When such faith sparked, it would gradually spread and develop into an organized religion.

Omega was completely unaware of this.

He had arrived in orbit above another planet in the Medias Sector via Warp jump. The bridge received data streams from cities on the ground.

The planet below was eighty percent ocean, with only one supercontinent. This led to vast deserts and arid zones across the interior. The ten rapidly developing cities were flourishing, which relieved him.

His attention shifted to reports about forces in the wilderness. As soon as he read information about a tribe near the desert, Omega laughed.

"Giant Wolf Tribe, Huh? They've regressed to the tribal era!"He examined the data more closely.

The tribe's population came from a single world, a human civilization planet that had lost contact during Old Night. Their scientific knowledge had gradually degenerated. They had become techno-barbarians.

The lasgun was a perfect example.

Over time, the people had lost understanding of the weapon's principles, how photonic energy charged the power cell. They had gradually transformed the simple technical process into a religious ritual. Now they believed the weapon charged through prayer and ceremony, not through understood technology.

Omega shook his head. Knowledge lost, superstition gained. It was the same pattern repeated across a thousand human worlds during the Age of Strife.
