Chapter 87: Stages and Changes
The Cult Mechanicus represented the perfect fusion of technology and religion.
People on such planets tended to uphold traditional culture, so it was understandable that they would set up tribes on the desert's edge. Omega was simply enjoying the situation.
There were also units like the Tigeress Mobile Force, formed by a nomadic, technologically advanced barbarian immigrant group. Instead of horses, they used motor vehicles to raid other forces in the wild and disrupt trade routes between cities. Although troublesome, the cities on the planet could deal with the burden themselves.
Looking at them one by one, Alpharius saw Omega's amused expression and handed him a piece of information.
"The messengers of evil! These people believe they're here to kill each other, and only the victors will survive!"
"They call themselves sinners, determined to maintain their wicked nature, and are steadfast messengers of evil!"
Omega asked, "How many of them are there?"
"A few dozen or so people!"
"If you want to take action, you can go to the surface. I'm not going, hehe!" Omega chuckled. This guy was obviously the kind who shouted slogans loudly and loved to show off and brag. Omega couldn't be bothered with him and found it rather amusing.
Alpharius reversed course. "Do you think the crimes of a dozen or so people aren't crimes? Great evils often develop from small evils!"
"I believe that all evil, no matter how small, must be eradicated, bit by bit!"
"I agree!" Omega smiled and nodded.
Alpharius felt helpless. He knew very well that Omega had its own logic, but the other party was unwilling to explain it, perhaps because he thought he could not accept it.
From the perspective of those who upheld justice, the best way to deal with evil was to rush forward and kill the perpetrators.
Omega saw things from a completely different perspective, whether managing a planet or a star sector. His theory had been confirmed by the information from the founding of the world to the planet before their eyes.
Human civilization evolved from barbarism to civilization, and people's ideas differed between the two stages.
It was like a river full of sewage flowing into the sea. The sewage from a single river did not pollute the ocean. On the contrary, because the sea was so vast, it diluted and purified the discharged sewage until no single drop remained.
Similarly, millions of people of diverse backgrounds had been transported to the surface of this vast planet.
On a planet with a surface area of one hundred million square kilometers, ten million people were insignificant, let alone a dozen.
Human society was as vast as the ocean, encompassing everyone. Every society has its share of evil and its share of justice. In a macroscopic sense, society was a living organism. Just like the human body, it formed an immune system. Weak viruses could be resisted without medication.
He agreed with Alpharius that all evil, big or small, should be eradicated. But he believed the human society on the planet was capable of dealing with a dozen evil people on its own.
Because these people were all part of a vast, macroscopic life form.
At that moment, Omega realized the immense power of nature.
It was so vast, from the development of the continents on the planet before them to the entire planet itself, expanding to star sectors and even the whole Milky Way. It was as if the mighty power of a vast natural system was at work.
The human Imperium was at war with countless alien races across the galaxy, much as the Medias sector was developing.
Countless civilizations had risen and fallen, but the Milky Way galaxy remained eternal.
Those civilizations that claimed they would destroy the galaxy and the universe were arrogantly thinking they were powerful. In reality, these powerful civilizations were merely a tiny part of the Milky Way's natural world.
"What's wrong with you?" Alpharius asked, noticing his absent-mindedness and utterly calm expression.
"Nothing, I'm Fine!" Omega, regaining his senses, looked at Alpharius again and couldn't help but hesitate about the path of the Enlightened.
Because the humanity of an Enlightened person transcended that of an ordinary person, their perspective and way of thinking were completely different.
The way of the Enlightened was not the way of ordinary people. The life and death of countless ordinary people on a planet was the process of the natural order being implemented.
When a dozen ordinary people starved to death in front of you, you would only think that these people had been eliminated in the process of the natural course of life.
From an ordinary person's perspective, seeing a dozen people starve to death would evoke pity, empathy, and a sense of sorrow for the injustice of the world.
Nature is ruthless. It treated everything equally.
Thinking of this statement, Omega sighed inwardly. "Nature has no feelings. The so-called indifference is merely a reflection of human society's feelings towards the world."
Thinking about it this way, he realized that the laws of nature were simply the natural birth, death, and evolution of all things on a planet. They should go with the flow.
After witnessing firsthand the smooth development of the Medias sector, Omega felt reassured.
No longer worried about Malcador's assassins spying on them, they headed directly with Alpharius to join the Legion's massive fleet.
A star system with thousands of warships anchored in space, a truly magnificent sight.
Back on the Legion's flagship, which stretched over twenty kilometers, Omega once again encountered the five Tech-Priests.
To celebrate Omega's official return, the five Tech-Priests presented Omega and Alpharius with two carefully prepared gifts: two sets of exquisitely crafted and heavy blue-green power armor.
In the mechanical warehouse, Alpharius gently stroked the exquisite power armor, flicked it to listen to the sound, then turned to look at the Tech-Priests and smiled.
"The Terminator-style power armor looks to be made of top-tier materials. That's impressive!"
The Tech-Priest Albert excitedly introduced it. "The Terminator-type power armor boasts incredible defense but is cumbersome and inflexible. Weight isn't an issue for Primarchs, so we designed two high-tier power armors that combine both defensive and agile characteristics!"
"Most importantly, we've added space jump devices to these two power armors, enabling short-distance space jumps!"
Under the intricately designed mechanical roof, Omega stood to one side, amusedly watching the five people.
"You not only built it, but you also integrated it with power armor. Such an innovative design has too many unknowns. Were you unaffected?"
The Tech-Priest Albert was somewhat touched that Omega was concerned about their safety. "It's alright. Someone at the Cult Mechanicus headquarters already proposed this idea. As far as I know, Chancellor Malcador possesses a space jump device, so the unknowns we're using are fewer than we imagined!"
Hearing this, Alpharius felt helpless. This was a technology that both the Emperor and Malcador had declared secret.
"Regarding the Perfect City incident, Sigillite Malcador was indeed transferred from space to the planet's surface. This was originally a highly classified technology, but unexpectedly, you figured it out yourselves!"
The five Tech-Priests fell silent, unsure what to say. Omega, trying to smooth things over, chuckled.
"It's alright, our Legion's high command can handle the space jump technology. I'm quite looking forward to seeing how it will be used on warships!"
"My friend, I will gladly accept this carefully prepared gift!"
"Good, good... good!" Julius and the others happily responded.
Alpharius gazed at the Tech-Priests, with some thoughts unspoken.
These Tech-Priests could create gravity weapons and antimatter artifacts, and now they had even developed a space jump device. This indirectly showed that the Mechanicum had absorbed countless new mechanical technologies during the Great Crusade.
The Mechanicum's intelligent control legions, with their Domitar-class battle-automata, now posed a threat to the Imperial government.
These new battle-automata were equipped with gravity hammers that could easily destroy the power armor of Astartes warriors, not to mention that the Mechanicum was developing even more powerful machines.
As the Imperium expanded, the power of the Mechanicum also increased dramatically.
For the sake of the Imperium's stability, the Cult Mechanicum could not be allowed to become too powerful. Judging from the current trend, the Imperial government had reached a stage where it needed to suppress the development of the Mechanicus.
Sigillite Malcador already had this intention, and both Alpharius's spies and Malcador's assassins had begun infiltrating the headquarters of the Mechanicum.
The Emperor was directing operations from the front lines of the Great Crusade and was unaware of their actions. The Imperial administration was entirely under Malcador's control, so these matters were conducted in secret.
The five Tech-Priests were utterly unaware that the technology they were developing was so advanced that it had made Alpharius even more wary of the Mechanicum.
